Requests For Features / look expand and map memory stuff
« on: June 29, 2007, 22:56 »
ok 1, look expand..... i know the new version doest allow items on stairs, but how bout if u wanna know what if an item near acid and lava is actually ON lava, or if ur standing on somethingcuz the guy u just killed at point blank dropped 9+ item (so one landed under you) and u dont wanna move unless its nothing..... all this does is look at everything there, u could easily access with "L" key for "toggle expanded look mode". trust me, i think if u were "the Doom soldier" (thats what ur char is refered to by all Doom players), u would NOTICE if the preciuos Adv. Plasma Rifle was sitting on LAVA.....

2, map memory... 2 or 3 related things.

1. .... i look and see a door on the other side of the map, i move, now the door (no chance in hell i could SEE it through 15 walls) is open. hmmmm.... a little cheap maybye. wait............. forget i said anything!!!

2. ok u pull the lever, all the barrels blow up.... HOW DO I KNOW THAT WALL AT EDGE OF VEIW WAS BLOWN UP BY A BARREL ON THE OTHER SIDE??? AM I CLAIRVOYANT????

3. on that same note, when i hear a soul scream (death beyond vision), why is it, if it occurs in an area ive explored, the CORPSE APPEARS on my map.... am i PSYCHIC???

4. why cant i remember where that advanced plasma rifle was? was it on the other side of THIS lava field, or THIS one? i dont have the health to cross both ways more than once..... if i chose wrong, ill have to skip it, ARGH!......

all the map stuff has simple solution. map by memory. ie what u saw there last is what is shown. shown only includes floor tiles, bfgs and plasma rifles (give off energy that can be detected, but if u dont know its there it looks like background radiation), and door locations. doors, btw, are always remembered as closed, no matter what. u can still hear them being opened. the only way ur memory can be changed is if u pull a flood switch, in which case itll replace all apllicable tiles with water. also, computer map powerup as usual gives u a flash frame of the map, but door closed bit applys. also instead of just bfgs and plasmas u could remember all weapons, but not ammo. map powerup is exception. also this method facilitates easy use of Look-ing at known objects outside field of vision. like stairs, liquid floors (water, acid, lava), etc.

1 killed the bastard and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

hehe this one turned me into a Demon Leuitenant, now i just gotta finish my AoI game and ill gain next rank. note: how high of a level can be reached? say u have a LOT of shotgun shells, an arch-vile hanging around behind a corridor, and a Pain Elemental or two who keep getting revived?

yes i said finish my AoI game. i save-scum. BUT only if i die. i only keep the most advanced of a challenge, and a few normal saves, and i made (during this game) a save at the entry to the Mortuary. i didnt know u could now save at special level stairways! dammit... i wanted an Adv. DblShtgn... and the mortuarys AdvRLer got destroyed, yet curiosly the powerups and walls around it were left alone... must have been from the BFG, as the red armor was missing too.......
I went through sheer hell trying to beat a few levels, i got stuck on one of them, Hell Level 2, i think, and died about 30 times.... hey, im not trying to hide it, at least im honest...not that im accusing anyone... oh yeah i skipped the Wall, cuz i had like 3 rockets at that point, hehe, not enough for the Wall! (i use about 15-20 rockets at the Wall, 1 cateye allows u to fire at any HK/BH that comes in sight no fear of miss or of being fired at... HEHEHEHEHE

oh almost forgot traits went EE->EE->Int->Int->Int->Rel->Rel->Shtymn->Fin->Fin.... i think we need a finesse advanced trait.

i used the shotgun a lot, to great effect, second wep was a plasma rifle! oh note, i cleared the mortuary using 2 rockets, the ABFG, additionally loaded for 2 shots more than it included, as i found it there, and a bunch of shotgun shells, and 4 red armor that was left, and 2 of the superchrges, 1 of the shards, and thats it. hehe, i learned that if u have a lot of ammo, then the mortuary is worth at least 2 player levels! just lure enemies off, then shred em with a dblshty with the shottyman trait, coward tactics, they never hit u hard enough, and the guys behind em take regular damage, and just plasma the archviles when they show up!

AliensRL / tower exits, they come in colors
« on: March 21, 2007, 20:36 »
if u look at exits, their color corresponds to the tower they lead to!
Medical = Turquoise
i gotta play for more than 5 minuites though. but as i discover, ill post it here

EDIT: OOPS! i spoke too soon! nvm, im just a harmless (young) idiot....

this is for fun, and for kornel to see, incase he thinks he needs to change monster descriptions.
also, at the end of doom 2 is a sequence, with all the enemies, showing names, attack, walk, and death sequences, and even your own! ;) anyway, the former human names there differ from those in the manual.

Former Human: Just a few days ago, you were probably swapping war stories with these guys. Now it's time to swap some lead upside their head.

Former Human Sergeant: (end sequence calls him the Shotgun Guy) Same as the Former Humans, but much meaner, and tougher. These walking shotguns provide you with a few extra holes if you're not careful!

Former Commando: (chaingun, end calls Heavy Weapon Dude ;) ) Geeze, weren't shotgun zombies bad enough?  At least when you fade these jerks you get a cool chaingun.

Imp: You thought an imp was a cute little dude in a red suit with a pitchfork. Where did these brown bastards come from?  They heave balls o' fire down your throat and take several bullets to die. It's time to find a weapon better than that pistol if you're going to face more than one of these S.O.B.s.

Demon: Sorta like a shaved gorilla, except with horns, a big head, lots of teeth, and harder to kill. Don't get too close or they'll rip your fraggin' head off.

Spectre: Great. Just what you needed. An invisible (nearly) monster.

Lost Soul: Dumb. Tough. Flies. On fire. 'Nuff said.

Cacodemon: They float in the air, belch ball-lightning, and boast one Hell of a big mouth. You're toast if you get too close to these monstrosities.

Hell Knight: Tough as a dump truck and nearly as big, these goliaths are the worst things on two legs since Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Baron of Hell: The Hell Knight was bad news, but this is Big Daddy. These bruisers are a lot like Hell Knights, but look a little different and are twice as tough to kill.

Arachnotron: Maybe cybernetics wasn't such a great idea after all. Look what the demons have done with it. It seems unfair somehow you're not the only guy in Hell with a plasma gun.

Pain Elemental: What a name. And what a guy. Killing him is almost as bad as letting him live.

Revenant: (not in DoomRL yet) Apparently when a demon dies, they pick him up, dust him off, wire him some combat gear, and send him back into battle. No rest for the wicked, eh? You wish your missiles did what his can do.

Mancubus: (not in DoomRL yet) The only good thing about fatso is that he's a nice wide target. Good thing, because it takes a lot of hits to puncture him. He pumps out fireballs like there was no tomorrow.

Arch-Vile: One of the worst of a bad lot. You can't think of enough rotten things to say about him. He's fast, hard to kill, casts spells, and resurrects dead monsters!  At least these suckers are rare.

The Spider Mastermind: (not in DoomRL yet) You guess the Arachnotrons had to come from somewhere. Hi, Mom. She doesn't have a plasma gun, so thank heaven for small favors. Instead, she has a super-chaingun. Crap.

The Cyberdemon: A missile-launching skyscraper with goat legs. 'Nuff said.

hey here's the weapon descriptions!

Fist
Your iron-clad knuckles are a little better than nothing.

The Pistol is the only weapon you start out with. But you'll use anything in a pinch, no matter how pathetic it may feel.

Shotguns can deliver a heavy punch at close range and a generous pelting from a distance.

Combat Shotguns are double-barrelled, sawed-off killing sticks. These gats are the ultimate in pellet warfare. Beware, two barrels not only deliver more fire power, but take more time to reload.

Chainguns direct heavy firepower into your opponent, making him do the chaingun cha-cha.

Rocket Launchers deliver an explosive rocket that can turn several baddies inside-out.

Plasma Rifles shoot multiple rounds of plasma energy--frying some demon butt!

BFG 9000s are the prize of the military's arsenal. Great for clearing the room of those unwelcome guests. Shoot it and see for yourself.

hehe omg i love some of those descriptions!

Requests For Features / Play as Hell's Champion!
« on: March 03, 2007, 22:27 »
this kin of thing was mentioned before, but for playing as a demon of some sort, one of the normal monsters. NO. this is my idea, i hadnt seen that old thread when i thought of it.
in Hell's Arena, if you beat all 3 waves, it mentions that it is a pity that you came to destroy them, for you would have made a great warrior..... guess my idea! at that point, when you prove worthy by completely defeating the Arena, you get a choice: continue on to your doom at the hands of evil, or join Hell's forces, as their greatest Champion! if you choose to join hells forces, "you are pulled willingly into hells darkest depths, as your evil soul is caressed by the eternal night's abyss". when you come back, you find yourself only partly human, a twisted angel of despair, the greatest ever Hell's Champion! you can still use weapons like before, but in addition to being stronger, smarter, tougher, and faster, you can also throw fireballs! and what is left to corrupt at the base? nothing. it's time to invade Earth! new non-demonic enemies, new levels, new tactics! and this fits the Doom storyline. you are the guy who went through first (the hero of doom doesnt know his squad came in 2nd, because their superiors thought it would cause unnecessary panic), and you joined the side of Hell, so while the hero of Doom I is off at the base closing the gateway there, you are invading Earth. the ruins of which the Doom hero confronts in Doom II! perfect!

22
in topic 274.0 people said this would make it too easy. no, its not, its perfectly doomish.
in the original doom, monsters would return freindly fire, (in Doom II there was a level with a Spider Mastermind in a pit around a spire from a group of Arachnotrons, i was in god mode and lured the Mastermind around to the Arachnos, then watched that super chaingun minceing all those plasma rifles! it was a blast, and the Arachs actually won!) but it wouldnt work with monsters of the same kind, ie a bunch of chaingun guys would kill wichever ones were in line of fire to me, but would never turn and shoot each other. it was a good way to deal with Doom II's Arch-Viles, as everyone they ressurected would hit him if you got behind him. its fun watching hell knights bouncing in the air!

Requests For Features / special ammunition
« on: March 03, 2007, 21:09 »
i had an idea for alternate ammo! they wouldnt affect damage (at least not primary damage) but they would have powerful effects! to offset this they are not easily found, AND they are "bigger" than normal: a full slot of them holds less than full slot of normal ammo. okay heres the ones i have come up with. #ps means # per full slot.

10mm AP (Armor Piercing) ammo - 50ps
10mm HE (High Explosive) ammo - 50ps (explosion the same size as the imps fireballs)
HE Shotgun Shells - 25ps (HE Shotgun Shells are a classic form of ammo)
Concussion Rockets - 5ps (no damage, huge knockback, hurts on impact with walls, ndoes not destroy items, but can destroy normal and bloodied walls up to 1 space away from the impact point)
Power Cell - 10ps (the power cell is from the original doom game, its a plasma cell that holds 10 charges each, when used to reload, it powers 10 charges. if there isnt enough room in the clip, u cant reload with these)
10mm AB (Atomic Blossom) ammo - 10ps (the holy grail of AoM, extremely rare, these bullets, when fired, become highly radioactive, causing anything 1 space away from its path to take radiation damage, which is like bleed damage but stronger and cannot be removed by healing. you are immune to the effect as the bullet does not become radioactive until shortly after leaving the barrel!)

note this means some of those much too common rockets are concussion rockets that dont destroy items!
also the 10mm AB is iffy, but its hard to find, and takes up a lot of space, for the clip size. that radiation damage affects the target too, but in that case it is in addition to the normal damage!
