Title: Returns PBF - In Character
Post by: Gargulec on December 02, 2009, 14:37
Few places are as dreaded as Imperial Dungeon Ships. And it is not without reason, for sure. Tales of prisoners embarking on them, never to set foot on land again are as widespread, as they are true. Rumours speak of tortures being common, wardens being sadistic, captains being bitter and cruel...

And, for most part, there is no lie in them, as each of you could see, though from different perspectives.

Lamentation for 'Canceron'

The trip was meant to be short. 'Canceron' was to travel from Outer Rim to Coruscant, bringing there cargo of many rebels, and single Jedi Master, which was cunning enough to evade capture for well over sixteen years. But cunning enough to escape forever. Dungeon Ship was hauling her, and all those rebels, to an sad, and unavoidable (or so it seemed) fate.

But, the hypersapce drive died, forcing the ship to move much slower than it should.

At this very moment, 'Canceron' was stationary- maintenance was needed direly for the secondary drives, unless you wanted it to malfunction, and leave struck in void until the end of eternity.

Anyway, ship was lost already, albeit nobody knew of it at this very moment. Only few held chances of survival.

Clone, more machine now then man, guarding the captured Jedi Master.

A former servant of a powerful Sith, traversing the corridors of Cellblock B in search of... somebody.

Handsome rebel, now enclosed in bare steel cell, transferred there for playing a part in recent prison revolt.

A pilot, and a gunslinger, walking down the ship corridors, closely to large blast doors.

All of you would soon leave this place for good. And face some memories.

The lady who was calling herself Laril Shadow brooded as she checked the bug detector in her hand and laid down on her bunk.  Why didn't she listen to her doubts when it came to accepting this fishy contract?  But no, she was tempted by the credits, and now she was stuck on this decrepit, failing Imperial ship.  It will be the greatest of ironies if after evading Vader and his agents for so long, I still end up perishing in Imperial hands...in the hands of their failing maintenance crew.  But there was no point agonizing over it.  Unless she decided to somehow commandeer one of the ship's shuttles to escape, but times weren't desperate enough for that...yet.

Instead, her thoughts turned to the walk she took one day ago.  "I really think I saw Colin in one of the cells," she said out loud.

Bright purple letters appeared on her datapad.  YOU ARE STATING THAT YOU BELIEVE YOUR EYES DETECTED COLIN KARR, YOUR CHIEF MISSION SUPERVISOR FROM 32:1:20 TO 32:7:34, IN ONE OF THE PRISONER CONTAINMENT ROOMS ABOARD THIS VESSEL?

"I think so, yes.  Mmm, if it's really him, there are so many questions I want to ask him."

WOULD IT NOT BE LOGICAL TO CONFIRM WHETHER OR NOT YOUR PERCEPTIONS ARE AUTHENTIC BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THIS LINE OF INQUIRY?

"Hah.  No, you're right.  I should check before thinking too much about this.  The problem is, it's probably a huge risk to go back in such a short time.  They'd remember I was through there before and check if I was authorized.  Then I'd be in trouble."

THAT IS A REASONABLE DEDUCTION.  IN THAT CASE SHOULD I GO AND CONFIRM YOUR PERCEPTIONS FOR YOU?

"You know, that could work.  I've seen a lot of astromechs coming and going every corridor on this ship.  I need to patch up this hole in your shell, though, so you don't stand out that much."

I AM GRATEFUL.  ALTHOUGH IT IS ILLOGICAL THAT I SHOULD ALLOCATE ANY CONSIDERATION TO SUCH COSMETIC MATTERS THAT DO NO AFFECT MY CAPACITY TO OPERATE, MY PREFERENCES ARE TO BE "WHOLE".

"Indeed, sorry for doing that to you.  It is a rather large hole."

I DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE NEED TO APOLOGIZE.  IT WAS A LOGICAL ACTION TO CREATE A REASONABLE EXPLANATION FOR THE EMP DETONATION IN THIS ROOM TO DISABLE ANY SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT.  I ESTIMATE A PROBABILITY OF AT LEAST SEVENTY-FOUR POINT TWO PERCENT THAT YOUR OVERSEER WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EXPLANATION HAD YOU NOT DAMAGED MY EXTERIOR.

"Right, right.  Power down for a bit while I finish the repairs, will you?"

-------------------

"There, all fixed up."

MY SHELL IS ONCE AGAIN A CONTINUOUS SURFACE.  I EXPRESS MY THANKS.

"Alright, go take a peek, if you can.  Be careful, though.  It's more important to stay undetected than to find him."

ROGER.  MISSION PARAMETERS ESTABLISHED.

"I'm going to the mess hall to get some food.  And see if maybe I can liberate someone's rank cylinder or find some other means of prison access.  See ya later."

CX-411 was spending the day much like every other day so far on this ship - standing guard duty in front of the door panel of the cell containing his special prisoner. He stood out a bit from the rest of the ship's stromtrooper compliment, in that his armour was a dark grey rather than the usual white. And there was the fact he carried substantially more firepower on his person, in the form of a repeating blaster in addition to the standard E11.

Of course, the work was dull as hell, so to pass the time he memorised who or what came by and when, or when nobody was around, simply counting the rivets in the walls.

The Clone surely was not the only bored person in the cellblock...
Some rebel being held few cells further definitely did not share this feeling, though.
His mind was absorbed with a tough problem, the problem made of bare steel, without any windows, but with solid, reinforced door instead. Precisely, closed and locked door.
Sitting in an angle of the cold, lonely and claustrophobic place, Vincent West Jr (or prisoner no. 113, as they branded him recently) desperately sought any way out.

If came some fraggin' stormtrooper... Interrogator... A damned gut-robber bringing cold soup... Anything, for f'sake !, he had a bitter thought full of anger.

Walls were already checked for any airing well, but in vain. Having nothing to do, he checked them again, hoping blindly for some concealed wiring panel, vent or something labelled "Ye Olde Rebel Emergency Escape Duct". Or, at least, an emergency camera.

Time passed slowly.

Senior officers in the ship mess were not cautious enough to prevent stealing a access cylinder from them. Entrance to Cellblock B was granted to Fathima at last. On her way there, she met her droid, eager to inform her that her 'old friend' was confined in the cell 021, 'heightened security'.

Over the blast doors, leading to cell block, somebody wrote a 'All hope abandon'. Indeed, there was a tale on the ship, that not a single prisoner from B ever tasted the freedom again.

Who knows, maybe it was even true.

Cell block was oddly silent. Nothing could be heard, no whisper, no yell. Heavy barriers, of both steel and forcefield separated prisoners from their captors. Furthermore, apart from Colin, a rebel scum whose face was one of the most intriguing sights Fathima ever saw and of course the Jedi, the block was empty.

And then, all of sudden, like a prelude to a dirge, all alarms on the ship rang.

'Action Stations! Action Stations! All hands to action stations...

CX-411 grinned to himself under his helmet as the alarms rang out. The trip had been dull, and so he welcomed the bit of excitement. Of course, he was already at his "action station" - he was to guard and protect the prisoner. To that end, he unholstered his trusty E-11 and began waiting for further announcements, or other sounds indicative of what was going on.

Jacob was greatly shocked with the alarm. Even if he knew the opposite, he was sure that the trip will be calm. This call destroyed his dreams. He was now sure that without firing he wouldn't leave the ship. So he readies his pistols and calmly waits, knowing that nothing can take him down now.

Fathima connected the rank cylinder to her datapad as she walked down the corridor, temporarily replacing its visual data with her own appearance.  She now walked with the stiff gait typical of most Imperials, and her color-shifting outfit was now dull grey, bearing no insignia.  The narrow, monotonous corridors reminded me of her last visit to the Imperial prison system, when she had broken a smuggler chief out of jail, allowing her to join his organization.  But the smuggler never realized that the escape was staged.  Soon after, Fathima had not only the smuggler, but his entire gang of glitterstim haulers all locked away.

Fathima forced her mind away from her memories and back to the task at hand.  This time, the guards weren't on her side.  She kept her eyes forwards as she walked past them...even as she started to feel a new presence in the Force.  The presence seemed contained somehow, but despite this containment Fathima could sense its warmth and brightness, entirely unlike the cold Force presence she experienced when vader was around.  Was there another Force user nearby?  And what allowed this being's Force presence to be warm and bright, which was a truly new Force sensation to her?

'Action Stations!  Actions Stations!  All hands to action stations...'

Fathima almost flinched as alarms suddenly rang out through the ship; only her training allowed her to continue to walk smoothly.  Guilty parties tended to react poorly to alarms, and she had to act if she belonged.  Was this an opportunity...or a risk?  The alarm would likely draw guards away her destination, but everyone she did meet would now be on high alert, especially when she tried to leave the area.  She seriously considered turning back and walking away, but feeling the rank cylinder in her hand, she knew it would be a hard trick to repeat once it was discovered missing.  So she continued deeper into the complex, further away from the wail of the alarms.

Meanwhile, Zal also moved through CellBlock B as inconspicuously as possible, staying close to Fathima, but not close enough to make it obvious.  It focused its echolocators on tracking all bodies nearby; ready to signal to Fathima if anyone converged on her location.

Soon, Fathima stopped in front of cell 021, rank cylinder in hand.  The moment of truth... She took a deep breath and focused her mind.  Activating the cell door, she stepped inside.  Putting a mixture of veiled menance and disdain in her voice, she spoke:  "Colin Karr.  I have some questions for you..."

Oh, the alert. Great, I am going to rot in this forsaken hole. Or... ?

Finding nothing of interest, Vince quickly stood up and, stumbling, sticked to a wall as close to the door as it was possible. His face twisted in pain while wounded knee protested with a sharp blow of pain.

It is certain that the whole ship will be evacuating soon. They can not afford losing prisoners, so probably I shall have someone sent for me. Hopefully, one untrained naive sucker...
Or... maybe someone is out to take me away from here... ? If not, then who... or what... can be willing to raze this cursed wreck ?

The last thought filled West with dread.

The voice of Fathima former handler was so quiet, that she barely could hear him over the alarms blaring, when she entered his bare steel cell.

'I told you, I know nothing that could intere...

He paused, surprised. Fear arose in his eyes.

'Who are you?' he asked, desperately trying to remain calm. 'You're not the one that interrogated me... And you appear familiar.'

Before he could finish, both of them felt an odd, but not unfamiliar feeling of faint pressure all over your bodies. Ship shields was raised.

'Ship endangered read CX, on the security screen that until no more than a second ago displayed nothing more than Jedi Master life function graphs.  'Enforcing emergency lockdown of Cellblock B'

He knew what that meant- meter thick blast doors, only way into the cellblock was now being closed. And they would only open after 24 hours passed, and ship captain send special safety signal.

For a second, the security screen blinked. And then, a red letters appeared on it, forming another short message.

'Special prisoner treatment is in action. Prepare the restraints and follow 'Special Circumstances' instructions'

Then, a distant explosions were heard. Turbolaser barrage, for no doubt.

Lights flickered, and went off in Vince cell. After a while, as the ship was torn with more and more hits. Before the rebel could start wondering, if the shields was still holding, a miracle happened. For how else could he name the situation, in which energy field separating him from the freedom simply disappeared?

Power was cut off- but it was matter of seconds before the auxiliary systems would kick in...

Hesitating no more, Vince hurled himself towards the corridor, almost falling to the ground and hissing in pain.
Ouch... No, not now... Such an opportunity...
He took a look around the corridor, quickly, determined to not get killed, then rushed towards anything that would provide him some piece of cover. Some door alcove, perhaps ?

'Oh my god! This is my ship!' - thought Jacob - 'It's going to die!'. There was nothing to do with it. Something was disturbing him. Something said him 'Cells...Prison Cells'. He wasn't sure what it meaned, but in times of need, 'pistols helped him' - as he described. He decided to check, what's with them. Jacob rushed himself towards prison cells with his pistols charged. He wasn't sure what is there, so he was ready to everything.

CX-411 turned to the door with an inward sigh, quickly typing in the access code before entering, blaster still held at the ready.

"Looks like it's time we had a change of scenery," the dark trooper said, walking up to the Jedi, taking out the neural collar and shackles. The shackles were set aside for the moment, and he moved stepped forward to clamp the collar around the restrained Jedi's neck, setting the auto-trigger distance to something reasonable for the circumstances. "I trust you realise I'm probably the only armed person on the ship currently interested in your safety and will take that into consideration in any half-brained escape attempts," he added, then walked over to the little wall locker that held the standard bright orange prison uniform, taking it out and setting it down in front of the restraints. "Putting something on might not hurt either. As useful as a distraction you might be to any boarders, these might be a bit more appropriate." The uniform itself was plain and simple, nothing fancy or comfortable, but at least it was clothing of a sort. Presently, the dark trooper picked up the shackles and stepped over to the restraint controls. "I take it you'll cooperate at least until we're clear of the present threat?" he asked.

Twi'lek spoke with apparent difficulty, slowly and quietly.

'I will... cooperate.'

As CX opened the restraints, she fell heavily on the floor. For a moment, she lied motionlessly. Then, she crawled towards the prison uniform, and awkwardly put it on. Standing up took her a few tries, but finally, she managed to assume standing position. In all this, she did not look dangerous in any way- former 501st legionnaire wondered how it was possible for her to slay number of best soldiers in the Imperium. For all CX was seeing now, was an tired, and resigned women, barely able to move.

'What now?' she asked, with faint trace of dread in her voice.

"I have little faith in this ship's ability to sustain an actual assault. Boarding might be another matter, but if whoever it is would prefer to just shoot at us, we're a sitting target. Therefore, we'll be getting off presently," the clone explained, stepping forward and clamping the shackles over the Jedi's wrists. "There is a shuttle housed in this block. If we can get to it, and if someone had the foresight to fit it with a pilot, astromech or otherwise... well, either way it affords us more chances than this junker of a ship."

The explanation done, CX-411 stepped away from the prisoner, nodding to a wall close to the door. "Stand there, I'll check on the situation outside..." he said, opening the door and looking out carefully, blaster rifle held at the ready in case any threat were to present itself.

AT this time, Jacob ran to the prison cells. Which cellblock - asked he himself. The silence was his answer. So he decided to close eyes, spin fast and go towards the direction he was pointing. By this way, he walked towards the Jedi. Int the few moments, he was facing CX-411.

CX-411 glared at the snooping crewmember. Granted, he had his helmet on and so his face was covered, but he still projected an intense air of glaring. It's a sergeant's talent.

"Move along, boy. I'm sure you heard the announcements, and this cell sure as hell isn't your assigned station," the dark trooper growled, his voice slightly distorted by the helmet's speaker. There was also the added argument of a loaded blaster rifle held at the ready and, at the moment, pointed in Jacob's direction.

Jacob didn't want that kind of resolve. He pointed his blasters at him, saying:
'Guy, if you shot, I'll shot. We'll lie here both dead. We both don't want that ending. I know that there is something here that needs my presence. So I propose co-operation in getting out of this ship. I know that it wouldn't survive the attack. If you have some ideas, tell me them.'

The dark trooper apparently wasn't in a mood to argue - that, or he simply responded poorly when people got in the way of his orders and pointed guns at him. As soon as Jacob reached for his own blasters, CX-411 switched the fire toggle of his E11 to burst mode with a quick movement of his finger and squeezed the trigger, still pointing the weapon at the meddling officer...

Fathima didn't know that others had already interrogated Colin.  This forced a sudden change in her plan of attack.

F: "So you'll notice the ship's under attack.  We know you were with Imperial intelligence before, now's your chance to convince us to take you with us before we blow the ship up."

C: "I know nothing that would interest you. I was working in Intelligence for less than a week. And I failed to comply with their 'moral standards' so I am here."

F: "Nice try, Colin, but we have your entire file.  The question is, how much will you cooperate with us if we whisk you out safely?"

C: "What do you want of me? I never supervised anything important, I was just a simple analyst"

F: "We're pretty interested in some of the missions you ran.  Such as kidnappings of Rebel agents and infiltration of Rebel meetings?"

C: 'I can only tell you, that's last time, the agent failed, and rebels escaped.  And the agent was similar to you. Small, clever, successful. All I know about her.'

F: "What kind of missions would she be doing now?  How can we best protect ourselves against her?"

C: 'She is dead.  In billion pieces, somewhere in Hutt space'

F: "So who's doing her job now?"

Colin paused at curious line of questioning.  Then, he opened his eyes widely

C: 'It can't be. Can't be. Can't be.  And I would suggest that you, Fathima, to get the hell out of my sight.'

The game was up.  In her mind, Fathima cursed her distinctive height, which probably helped give her away.  Of course, Colin's sharp mind was not one to be deceived for long.

F: "Alright, it's me.  So it seems your current situation isn't so hot right now.  I might be amenable to taking you along when I leave, if I could pick your brain."

C: "Pick me up? You know that there is no way out of this ship. Also... Fathima, believe me, I don't want to.  I see little point in living. Everything I tried to build is now in ruins. I am no one. I am human detritus'

F: "I don't know what else to say to that.  Anyways, we don't have much time to talk.  But I need you to decide now whether or not you want to come with me.  Because if you don't - it's not safe for me to leave you able to inform on me."

He closed his eyes.

C: 'Fathima. Listen to me, before you say anything. It is important. I once knew an admiral. She was from Old Republic navy. Alderaani, like me.  She did not like the New Order a bit... And I had to find a way to eliminate her. Force knows, if she knew what I had to do, and how bad I felt about killing someone that once saved my mother from death.  And she told me, that I should know one thing. 'I've seen enough of young boys and girls in body bags thrown out of airlock. And I know, that when the time comes, I cannot flinch, I cannot doubt. Because if I do, there will be nothing, but more boys, and girls in bodybags'

F: "I've made that mistake too many times for me to stop now.  And as for the enormity of our sins...only by surviving can we act to bring some balance to the impact of our actions."

C: 'I don't care for atonement, for I want none. I know who I killed, why I did, and given the chance, I'd the same. I never doubted if my actions were right.'

F: "I see.  I guess we have nothing more to discuss."

C: "Wise as you will have become, so full of experience.  You'll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.  Yes, I think I found my Ithaka. Farewell Fathima.'

F: "I wish things were different.  Farewell."

Then, with the ship was shaken by hit once more, lights faltered and explosions were heard.  The shields were no more, and Canceron was defenceles.

C:  "Will you help me quit this world? I want nothing more of it.'

Explosion. And explosion.

F:  "Very well."

Fathima aimed for the vulnerable point in Colin's windpipe... He died as he lived - silently.  She did her best to arrange his body to look as if he died naturally.

C:  "Goodbye, Colin"

So then Fathima emerged from the cell, her mind once again focused on her surroundings, once again acted as if she belonged in these corridors.

CX-411 looked at the smoking body for a few brief moments before shaking his head with a sigh. "Seems they really will let anyone into the service nowadays," he muttered, then, just to be sure, switched to single fire and let off another shot, carefully aimed for the late officer's head. Around that time he noticed the flickering of the lights, looking back to his Jedi ward. "Power's going... and we should be as well, if we want off this heap in one piece," he suggested, holstering the E11 and readying the repeater rifle. If the power was going, all those fancy cell forcefields were going to become very useless in a few moments... and that meant a lot of potentially hostile prisoners on the loose. What ever happened to good old solid metal bars for cells, he wondered, as he motioned to the Jedi to follow and stepped over the still-smoking corpse, turning in the direction of Block B's shuttle hangar.

Few minutes ago:

...Vince saw what he was looking for- an empty dark alcove. Before, however, he was able to move there, his crippled leg reminded of her again, forcing him to stop. And his curses covered the sound of light footsteps behind him.

'An escaped prisoner? Turn around, hand high, will you? the voice was soft, and definitely belonged to women.

When the rebel turned, he saw a slim, moderately tall women with red hair, and rather pretty face. She was wearing an imperial pilot uniform.

More importantly, she was aiming at Vince head with a blaster.

'So?' she asked. 'What are you doing outside your cell?'

"The way looks clear. Sounds clear as well, by the sound of it," CX-411 said, looking behind him at the Jedi and motioning with his head down the corridor leading to the hangar bay housing his assigned shuttle. "Let's go while it lasts. Can you move fast, or am I going to have to carry you?" he asked, moving the repeating blaster to an "at ease" position on his shoulder.

Oh bummer. I MUST get outta here. These poor fellows are waiting for guidance. What now... ?, a thought flashed in rebel's head. Right, all or nothing.

"Having a walk, I suppose. Catching some oxygen. It is so airless inside there and I've got an asthma...", Vince sighed heavily, turning towards the woman and gazing deeply into her eyes with a cheeky smile. He raised his arms, showing that he is completely harmless. "Miss, I wonder if you could stop aiming at me with that blaster. Neither of us is willing for an accident which tends to happen, alright ? The loss of an uninterrogated prisoner... Oh yes, this would make your further advance... harder. Don't you agree ?"

Thus saying, he stumbled slowly towards her. He moved really slowly, not risking harming his leg further and barely to be noticed. Frankly, despite the pain dominating him and the weapon being aimed at his forehead, he still was smiling, just to cause some distraction. "I just wanted to report that I am feeling insecure with that complete lack of door. I am certain that something can be done about it, nay ?" - he pointed at the cell lacking the force field. "You are of the Empire, after all. You should have some good professionals around there ?"

"What model is this ? It doesn't look light enough to be carried by such a delicate lady, right ?", he said, nodding at the gun. And then he looked back at the woman, for a while playing suprised. "Oh, wait, don't we know each other ?"

And yet it is surely heavy enough to stun you, baby. Wanna bite ?, he thought.

Yes, West was desperately trying to win some time by completely unpredictably playing totally authistic and a complete idiot. In fact, he was waiting for another shot to be launched, hoping for it to be strong enough to shake the whole cell block.
He would rush towards the woman and try to neutralize her, gaining some advantage from the distraction and her loss of balance. And confusion he was trying to induce, of course, by bursting the woman with an avalanche of wierd questions.

The women put her finger on a trigger, as Vince closed by.

'Hold. If I'd want to shoot you, you would be dead already. And, believe me, if you come any closer, I will do this!'

She paused for a second, waiting for Vince reaction. When he finally stopped, she spoke again, starring at his face, and probably starting to fall to his allure already.

'Look, I know who you are, and really, all I want is to get out of this ship alive. I don't care if you're rebel, I hold no grudge against you, and will be really pleased to quit the Navy anyway, and as long as you can help me get to the shuttle in the lowest cellblock level, I can take you with me, too. So?'

Before, however, the rebel could reply, a small figure clad in Imperial uniform emerged from the adjacent corridor.

Meanwhile...

The Jedi nodded. 'I only need few moments to pull myself together....' she muttered. After a second, she looked at CX, and whispered 'Anyway, I think I need to thank you for what you've done for me.

"In all fairness, I'd have had you shot on sight were it not for standing orders," the clone replied with a shrug. "But someone high up wants to see you arrive on Coruscant in one unharmed piece, so I'll do what I can in that regard. Just don't start thinking of me as a friend. Remember where that got your Jedi Order last time," he added, already heading down the corridor to the hangar bay, though slow enough that she'd keep up... and keeping alert for any more potential obstacles.

Fathima put all thoughts of Colin behind her, focusing her mind on the here and now.

Sithspawn, she thought, as her new focus finally led her to realize the meaning of the distinct alert that had been going on all this time.  The area was being locked down.  But no, with the power failing, would the seals hold?  After all, the energy containment fields had all but disappeared.  Well, there was no point in worrying about things you couldn't control.  Checking in with Zal, she proceeded onwards in the direction it directed, hoping that the route would remain clear.

As she warily turned another corner, she saw two figures in the distance.  It looked like a pilot was covering an escapee with her weapon.  If she continued to play the role she had adopted, she would have to...  No.  With all the cells open, she might run across a crowd of Rebels or other prisoners.  They probably wouldn't take to kindly to an intelligence agent among them.  What to do then?  There weren't many other explanations for why she was here.  Instead, she decided to appeal to the survival instincts.  Still, being careful - she drew one of her holdout pistols in one hand and aimed it forwards, while covering it with her other hand, appearing to casually hold her hands in front of her.

"What are you two doing standing there?  I know you have your differences, but with the explosions throughout them ship, let's put them aside for now and run for the escape pods.  Wait, you're a pilot - and the shuttles are closer.  I can access the direct turbolifts if we go together."

The rebel seemed suprised with the whole situation. He glanced at both women (or rather, at both barrels being aimed at him) and said nervously :

"O-ok, just aim this thing somewhere neutral, shall you ?"

He stepped back, slightly disoriented. After a few seconds everything finally became semi-clear.

"Settled, then. After you, ladies.", he answered.
"Would you mind telling me who I have pleasure of working with... and what happened ?"

"Now's not the time to talk.  And you, stay in front, no monkey business.  I'll tell you which way to turn when the time comes.  Let's go."

As Fathima directed the group along the route to the shuttle hanger bay, she wondered to herself why she was even bringing this man along.  His presence would not aid her survival, and perhaps would even hinder it.  But perhaps it was an aftereffect of the kill she just performed.  And he had such a pretty face...

As CX and 'his' Jedi walked down the empty corridors of Cellblock B, the ship was literally falling apart, because of continuous barrage. Only light came for weak, emergency lamps, which only succeeded in covering the interior with red haze. 'Canceron' was dying, and it was not long until it would have to surrender... or explode.

As they closed to the hangar turbolift, explosions suddenly stopped being heard. Ship was being boarded, it was only possible explanation. It was, however, smallest of their concerns.

Four man stood next to the turbolift entrance. All but one were clad in black Imperial infantry, and armed with blaster rifles. And the one that stood apart was all too familiar- Alistair Thorne.

Fortunately, they have not spotted twi'lek nor CX yet, as they managed hid around the corner. As CX glanced towards his prisoner, he noticed how she was trembling. Dread? Mere memories of what this man did to her?

Simultaneously...

The pilot was the most talkative of your rag tag group, even though all she said was 'My name is Skye Ortis and...' Before she could finish, Vince made one step too much, entering the new corridor.

Facing a few blaster rifles aimed at him was not pleasant. Nor was to hear the short order issued a second after he appeared.
'Junk. Kill him.

Luckily, when the rifles were fired, Vince managed to jump back around the corner, to safety.

CX-411 stopped dead when he heard the shots from just around the corner. Blaster rifles, he recognised that much, and the calls didn't sound as though they came from escaped prisoners. Quietly, he took out his own E11, set it to stun and passed it to the Jedi. "The less witnesses, the better, but I'd rather avoid shooting more of my own side, regardless of their quality. Just point and shoot this at whoever comes around the corner that isn't me, don't change any of the settings," he instructed. Then, moving his repeater to an "at ready" position, slowly and calmly stepped around the corner.

"Escaped prisoners?" he asked, seeing the infantrymen. "Need some extra firepower?" he added, hefting the repeater in his hands for emphasis, pointing it down the corridor to indicate his intent to help out.

The instant Fathima heard the sound of blasters, her own blaster pistols were in her hands, held ready in front of her.  She crouched and hugged the wall, ready to fire on anyone that appeared around the corner.

"Who was that?" she whispered to the rebel.  "Oh, and stay down and away from us.  I won't have you grabbing our weapons while we're distracted."

She sent a coded message to Zal over her subcutaneous comlink.  Zal, tell me how many shooters and guns are around that corner.  Is there any cover as well?

She considered her options.  She didn't know who those shooters were, so trying to bluff her way through could leave her dead.  She could throw her datapad to create a distraction if she decided to charge, but that didn't seem wise, either, as she didn't know who they were.  But this definitely was one of those situations where she couldn't afford to hold back with any of her abilities.  So she reached out with the Force, to see if she could get a sense of the beings around the corner.

Thorne turned towards CX.
'You. Great' he growled. 'I knew that I will find you here. Now, tell me where is Jedi, or I shall make you die horribly he added, raising his blaster pistol. Rest of his 'crew' also preprepared their weapons.

He, however, were quicker. One, prolonged burst from the repeater was enough to kill (or mortally wound) everyone in the corridor.

"Consider warning me first when you will be going to push me again into a pack of stormtroopers, alright miss ?", drawled the rebel, with a long and murderous gaze into Fatima's eyes. "Loss of one man in our present situation is a almost like a lethal blow to every other one. We are drowning in the same tide, dammit !"
Then, he carefully leaned forward to where the patrol was seen before.
"Ahem. Seems like someone's already done our job. We may keep moving. I hope so, at least.", he whispered, then jumped through the corridor, hiding behind the metal crate.

Oh. A blaster. Methinks, he feels so alone just lying here..., he thought, catching the glimpse of the officer's pistol lying on the ground.
Not worrying for too long, he just rappelled over the crate and reached for it. Of course, his knee protested again...

And so did his eyes, for Vince didn't see the Clone standing right there and aiming at him.
"What the...", he said, desperately trying to crawl back...

Blood... Bodies... Crates... A stormtrooper ! No... Not again !...

CX-411 hosed down the corridor with lethal precision, and with an odd silence, no shouts, jeers, or battle-cries. Once all the men were on the ground, he eased off, glancing around briefly before motioning for "his" Jedi to come out of hiding. Then, as he began to step forward, he saw someone else darting out from around the corner. Seeing a prisoner uniform instead of an imperial one, the dark trooper sighed, shaking his head. "I really hope you're not planning of pointing any weapons at me. So far all it's done is get the weapon holders killed - as you can see - and while I'm sure whatever you did to be put in that outfit deserves a shot in the head... THIS SHIP IS FALLING APART and I would very much like to get off it without further interruption!" Taking a moment to compose himself, the trooper shook his head again. "So, are you going to come out nice and peaceful, or do I have to lob in a thermal detonator after you?"
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character

Fathima almost flinched at the second round of blasts.  A repeating blaster rifle!  I know I'm pretty confident about my skills...but even then that's not something I want to test myself against.  She felt the presence of the guards fading from the Force as their life ebbed away from them.  All that was left, besides the rest of her rag-tag group, was one disciplined mind...and the Force user!  But the latter's presence was weak and tired - this disciplined one had to be the new shooter.

Then the rebel started to mouth off at her.  "Loss of one man in our present situation is a almost like a lethal blow to every other one..."  I'm starting to think I don't care to have him along...  Then he dived out the opening to take cover behind a crate.

Idiot! She thought as she watched him move.  Crossing open space is a deathwish against someone with a repeater!  But no blaster fire appeared to shoot the rebel down.  However, a harsh voice did speak out.

"So, are you going to come out nice and peaceful, or do I have to lob in a thermal detonator after you?"

Fathima looked back at the pilot and shrugged, sliding her holdout blasters back into their concealed holsters and raised her hands in the air.  The pair of them slowly emerged from around the corner to face whoever was there.

The dark trooper moved the repeater to an "at ease" position once again, and took his E11 from the Jedi as she approached, holstering it by his side. "Well, at least you two seem a bit more sensible than this lot here," he commented, nudging one of the late infantrymen with his boot. "I suggest you take that blaster out of your pet's hands before he hurts himself, though," he added, pointing to Vince.

That said, CX-411 walked up to the turbolift and quickly tapped in the access code for the hangar bay housing his assigned shuttle. As he waited for it to arrive, he looked at Thorne, a bit surprised to see him still breathing.

"Thought we'd sneak off the ship instead of fighting at our stations, did we?" the trooper growled, crouching down by him. "They really *will* let anyone into the service these days, it seems. Well, I'm sure your injuries or the attackers will rid the Imperial Navy of one... thorn in its side. Ha. Ha." The trooper's laugh was almost mechanical and quite joyless, as though he only did it to point out that it was meant to be a joke. "Or I could let my ward decide what to do with you. She has every right, really... blow for blow and such," he added, looking up at the Jedi at this point. "Well?"
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character

The Jedi looked on trrified Thorne lying at her feet for a while. Her face was expressionless, as she spoke.
'I... cannot hate, cannot take revenge. Hate brought our Order to it's doom. Though...
She turned her sight from her tormentor. You could almost see as she has lives through what Thorne did to her again.
'Just... we should go.

In the same moment, one more female walked from around the corner. She was wearing an Imperial pilot uniform, and smiled lightly.

'Oh. Quite a mess she stated, and looked at CX. 'I assume that you are an ally, right?'

"Well, I'm looking to get off the ship, if that counts," the dark trooper said, standing up, grinning down at Thorne behind his helmet, then turning around to the newcomers once more. "A pilot?" he said, looking at the last of the other group. "Well girl, if you can fly a shuttle, I promise not to shoot you," he replied with a shrug, then turned to Thorne once more. "Well, aren't you the lucky sort my ward is not the vengeful type... and that I don't have time for anything elaborate. Get out of the way," the clone said, reaching down to grab Thorne by the front of the shirt and, without bothering to lift him up much, toss him onto the two dead infantrymen by the wall opposite to the turbolift. Then, as the lift arrived, he stepped out of the way for the Jedi, nodding his head lightly. "After you."

Fathima took the blaster rifle from the dazed rebel into her hands, keeping it pointed at the ground.  He seemed to be reliving some past traumatic incident.  Fathima shuddered inside and wondered if his flashbacks were anything like her own.  "C'mon.  Even if you plan to do something, rebel scum, now's not the time.  Let's join the trooper for the moment.  And don't go picking up one of the other blasters, please."

Turning to the trooper, she asked.  "There's room for us too, is there?  I have an astromech with me if that makes a difference."
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character

The twi'lek entered the lift, and so did you. You were hearing the sounds of a battle not far- there was no time to waste.
'I hope that you have the launch codes, armoured one?' asked your pilot. 'Yes? That's a releif.' She then noticed Zal and muttered 'An astromech. Fine, I hope that it can assist in flying Lambda Class shuttle.

After a second, the tutbolift arrived in the hangar. It was empty, save from one lambda class shuttle in the middle, which you quickly boarded. Inside, your pilot moved towards the cockpit, and started the taking off sequence.

Interior of the ship was quite spacious, as for the shuttle. Few bunks, few crates with supplies, an Universal Energy Cage in the corner- not an standard equipment, but definitely useful.

With low hum, the engines came to life. If there was anything you wanted to do, now it was the time, for the flight that awaited you was hardly looking to be slow and safe.

Once aboard the shuttle, the trooper showed "his" prisoner to the cage, taking off her shackles and neural disruptor collar before locking it. "I do have to take some precautions, you understand," he told her, then turned and passed the shackles to Fathima. Even if she was a bit oddly dressed. "I'd advise putting these on your pet, we can't have him running about the shuttle completely unrestrained," he informed her.

Fathima did as directed, putting the shackles on the rebel after strapping him into a seat, in case any excitement was in store for them.  She tried not to stare at the Jedi as she went about her business.  So a Jedi's Force presence is entirely different from Vader's.  What powers do they have?  And would it...would it be possible to get her to teach me?

With her task complete, Fathima ate a small portion of food, to restore some of her energy.  She then returned to the cockpit and asked the pilot, "So where are we headed?"

"Coruscant, by the shortest feasible route," the dark trooper replied, having come to the cockpit to address that very same issue with the pilot. "There I can deliver my cargo, and you can see that your pet gets the treatment he deserves. Preferably by way of a blaster bolt."

Since shootout, Vince was withdrawn and quiet. He barely could hear, feel and understand anything happening around him. This could be suprising, but nobody knew what did he live through inside.

The shootout reminded him the incident on Endor and for half an hour he had to come through this all once again. He had seen his dead comrades instead of the ship's crew, he had heard gunshots instead of speech, his mind protested against bearing witness to this and left the body, wandering through the high spires of oblivion.

Now, it returned, tormented and full of wrath.

Oh damn. Coruscant... You are going to get your reward when I'll be free, genefucked scum., he thought, yet consciously remained seeming absent.

He discretely looked at shackles. Those looked much too solid to be broken...

Think, Vince... think...

As CX and Fathima came to the cockpit, to have better view on what's happening, the pilot was starting the ship's repulsorlift drives.
'The board is all green' she muttered, grabbing the control stick. Meanwhile, Rel connected to ship's systems via the socket next to empty second pilot chair. Then, you felt as the whole ship rose above the deck. Skye looked towards you. 'If I were you, I'd rather grab something. It may shake... a bit.

Then, without a word of further warning, she pulled the yoke towards her, fully opened the throttle, and launched into open space.

CX-411 braced against the back of the cockpit as the shuttle took off - he was no stranger to rapid deployment of small craft, and what it feels like to be on one during the procedure. "Priorities, then - get clear of the ship, or ships... while we're at that, check if you can catch whatever attacked the Canceron on scanners. Anyway, from there, if supplies allow, it would be preferable to head directly to Coruscant. Failing that... any port in the storm, but preferably an Imperial one, or at least some neutral place, where we can arrange for supplies or further passage. I'll leave the details to you, though I'd prefer to be informed of the destination before we arrive there," the clone instructed.

Fathima steadied herself as the ship shifted, then strapped herself into the co-pilot's seat.  "I can't help you fly, but I can handle everything else for you:  shields, sensors, power allocation and such, if you would prefer - just yell at me anytime what settings you'd like.  Oh, and is this ship armed?"  She turned to the trooper, "You look like you might have some experience with heavy weaponry, and it seems whatever's out there isn't friendly"

As she sat among the ship's controls - her mind flashed back to her old, now destroyed, ship - a droid Infiltrator that inserted and extracted her from many missions.  That ship was a beauty.  Fast, impossible to detect:  it never let me down.  She shook her thoughts away - now wasn't the time to be distracted.

She began to look at the sensor board while simultaneously reaching out with the Force, hoping to get some sense as to who the attackers were...

Before you were able to say anything more, massive G's tore your breath away. Seconds after, cockpit filled with a red, pulsating light and the ringing of the alarms due to radar detecting 'several unidentified vessels'.

'I know that CBDR!' yelled Skye, turning out the alarms, and doing a sharp turn, to evade incoming fighters, identified by Zal as standard Tie/in's.

And then, it begun.

Skye was manoeuvring like a mad man, desperately trying not to get hit. Turn after turn, spin after spin... all that to give Zal enough time to start up the hyperdrive. Only sound that you could hear was faint rustle, as the lambda shuttle structure was protesting against what it was being put through.

Through the cockpit windows, you were finally able to see what attacked 'Canceron'. Two Victory-class Destroyers were floating over the boxy shape of what once was an Imperial Dungeon Ship, now ravaged, and dying. You did not have time to take the closer look, as your pilot again made a sharp turn, and all that you could see now was deep void.

Zal whistled in terror as one of the engines on the ship systems display turned red.
'I'm seeing it myself, you piece of scrap!' growled Skye, her hand dancing over the control board.

She must have pushed one button too much, as suddenly, your shuttle comm systems came to life, catching all wayward signals in this part of space, all at once, and all of them was from 'Canceron'. Most of them were familiar

Like Chief Petty Officer Henderson
'...life support systems are dying, I repeat, life...'

Like Captain Elva Duran
'It was an honour, lieu...'

Like XO Adama
'Stay back! STAY...'

And many, many more. All of them, however, melded into one, funeral tune, tune for that which was meeting its end.

Into lamentation for 'Canceron'

Then, something close to you exploded, throwing even CX on the floor. Zal emitted a short beep that could mean one thing only. You were taking structure damage.

But it was not fated for you to die there. Before you were blasted with lasers and missiles again, all stars stretched into long lines of white light.

Skye released the yoke, tilted her head up and sighed.

You've survived once again.
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character
Post by: Xander Morhaime on December 10, 2009, 12:48
CX slowly picked himself up off the floor, shaking his head. "Let's try to avoid that bit with getting shot at by two star destroyers next time, hm?" he muttered, then breathed a sigh of relief. "At least if we're lucky, whatever the deal with that was, they won't try to pursue us, or don't have enough to go on for a chase."

After a few moments, the dark trooper reached up and pulled his helmet off. His face was pretty much like that of any of the first-generation clone troopers, only the pattern of scars was different. Curiously enough, he also had a simple metal half-circlet ringing the back of his head and hooking onto his ears. The ear-pieces were some electronic devices, too. "Hm. Doesn't sound like we're bleeding atmosphere. That's good, at least... See if there's anything vital that got damaged," he told Skye, "We'll go and check on the prisoners," he added, helping Fathima up and stepping out of the cockpit, drawing his sidearm along the way as he headed to where they'd left the force cage.

Skye finally collected herself, and leaned towards damage control screen.

'Deflector shields off-line, tri-foils functional, life support functional, weapon systems functional, power supply functional, repulsorlift drives functional, engines...

For a moment, she paused. Then, she grabbed a spanner lying on the floor, and with all her strength, she threw it against the bulkhead.

'Sorry for that' she said, literally shaking with anger. 'But not only did I overload the main engines, but our shiny, new hyperdrvie also got hit. And that means it is not functional. And can throw us out of hypersapce anywhere. Like in the middle of an ISD. Or Carida. Or some fucking red giant. Ah, just great...

Fathima let her breath out slowly as the ship entered hyperspace.  This contract had definitely become much more than she bargained for.  And with the Canceron destroyed...she probably wouldn't even get paid.  It was so frustrating to be a passenger - having no ability to influence whether she lived or died.

She let the trooper help her up as she thought over what she had noticed on the sensor displays.  "Do the ship names 'Astral Queen' and 'Scar' mean anything to you?  Why would they, I mean, our own people attack us?  And those strange red colored TIE fighters - the power output of their lasers was much higher than usual.  What special task force could this be?"

She got up and followed the trooper until the pilot spoke angrily of the damage to the ship.  "Wait, the state of our ship's probably more important than our prisoners when it comes to our survival," she said to the trooper, then called out to the pilot, "We better check out the damage, then.  See if there's anything we can repair."

The Universal Energy Cage was so small that the Jedi you put there, despite not being very big herself, had to curl up and keep her head between the knees to not get shocked by cage bars. It was hardly comfortable. However, hearing CX coming, the twi'lek tried to raise her head, and got electrocuted.

'If we are going to die anyway' she whispered after a while 'then you might as well release me from this cage. It is not the place that I'd want to die in.'

The discussion was cut short by a sudden and unexpected feeling of being out-of-place. You then heard Skye.
'We have exited hyperspace, and we are still alive. So far, so good.

When CX came to the cockpit, he could, along with Fathima, see a greeenish, small planet through the windscreen. It seemed somehow familiar to him, but, for now, that was all.

'In other news' your pilot muttered 'we are caught in the planet's gravity well, and since our engines are out-of-order, we will have to land there. Hopefully, the repulsorlift will be enough to save us from the crash. Before you ask, I have no idea where we are, nor do ship databanks recognize that planet, which can mean two... three things. Either it is unknown, under rebel control or simply our archives are incomplete. Not unheard off.

She shrugged.

'One way or another, we will reach the planet's atmosphere in hour, two at most. From what little data this ship's sensor can gather, it appears that the atmosphere there is breathable, so well, maybe it wont be... that bad.'

"With our luck so far it's probably a planetwide methane ocean," CX commented with a tired sigh, putting his helmet back on. "Well, try setting us down gently and on some solid surface, if at all possible. Bonus points if you can find a proper landing platform. And if we get any incoming comms, not a word about our cargo. Courier shuttle, damaged hyperdrive - keep to that story," the clone instructed. "At least until we know where we stand."

Zal emitted short series of beeps.
'Oh, come on, piece of junk...' Skye snorted, turning towards ship's databank screen. 'Why would this planet be in old records, and not in the new ones?.'

For a second, she stared at results of her search.

'You're a very smart piece of junk, you know?' she said to the droid. 'This planet, despite being removed from current Imperial registers, is in the ones from the Clone Wars. However, all the info available there is a name... Felucia. Never heard of it.'

"Is it too late to go look for a planetwide ocean of methane? We'd be safer off there," CX asked, looking rather tense. After a few moments he let out a deep breath and shook his head.

"I've been there. As far as life-supporting planets go, Felucia is probably one of the most hostile ones. The whole planet's a jungle of overgrown fungi, crawling with bugs, beasts and flesh-eating diseases, and they're all out to get you. We lost more men back there to the environment than we did to the Seps. On Felucia, don't drink the water, don't eat the plants or meat, and if you can, don't breathe the air either. We'll be lucky if we don't land near an acklay or rancor nest, too... not that they're the only creatures down there to watch out for. There were some old staging grounds, though, camps and such, walled off... if they haven't completely overgrown, perhaps we could try setting down in one. Just... try not to land in a giant mushroom or something, for the time being."

"Sounds like we have some fun times ahead.  I'm going to see what we have to work with."  Fathima said, disappearing towards the cargo hold.  Minutes later, she returned, carrying two DH-17 blaster carbines.  "There's a bunch of pistols and no much else.  A stack of rations - looks like they'll feed a person for three and a half weeks, and 20 liters of water.  No spare parts, either."

She turned to the trooper.  "It doesn't look like we can repair the shuttle with what we have, and no holocomm, either, so a distress signal is out, too.  These old staging grounds, would they have anything we can cannibalize, or perhaps a ship we can commandeer?"

"Not very likely," CX replied, shaking his head. "These shuttles weren't even in production back then, so not much chance of specific spare parts, though there might be bits we could cannibalise. Finding working equipment in that hole, though, will be a miracle. I fully expect that any working machinery that was on the planet was taken away when the Seps got pounded and we could withdraw as well. Granted, there'll be tons of wreckage in various stages of falling apart out in the jungle, but I'm not sure we're exactly prepared for a salvage operation. Eh, maybe we'll find a leftover LAAT or something..."

As Skye said, after an hour, your shuttle entered the atmosphere.

At first, it all looked like the landing was going to be smooth. But Skye's face showed signs of deep concentration- and maybe even fear. For you were slowly accelerating.

Soon, you were barely able to stand, and all you could hear was a wild wail as the ship was making its way through the dense atmosphere. You could see the surface of Felucia now, brightly glistening. Very alien.

When you were about two clicks above the ground, Skye turned on the repulsors. The shuttle jerked, but slowed down. It was, however, only the beginning of the struggle.

Repulsors in lambda class were not meat to be used as the main drive, only as an assistance in landing. And you had absolutely no idea of how Skye managed to place it on the surface in one piece. But somehow, she did.

'Never again...' she muttered, releasing the yoke from her hands, after the ship hit the surface. She was wet with sweat, and appeared to be exhausted.

"That went well," CX muttered under his helmet, picking himself up off the floor with a sigh. "We made it down in one piece. See if there's any energy signatures on scanners - we would probably do best to investigate any of those in the first place. I'd suggest making this shuttle our camp site, at least until we find something more suitable."

Skye reluctantly took a look at sensors screen.
'Crapload of various life forms, no big ones, however. A lot of scrap metal lying all around us. It's all I can see. Satisfied?'

"Not really, but given the circumstances... eh, might as well take a look around, see if there's anything out there we can use for parts. I saw the remains of a Sep ship while we were coming in, if we can get there, perhaps there'll be enough left of it that we can salvage something..." CX sighed, adjusting his helmet. "You stay on the ship," he told Skye, then looked to Fathima. "We'll take our prisoners and see if we can find anything useful out there."

Now that the group was just the five of them, Fathima felt far less inclined to obey the trooper.  Especially when she couldn't see the sense in his plan.  "Take the prisoners with us while we search?  That's going to slow us down, unless you were planning on freeing them."  Without consulting the trooper, she activated the shuttle's ramp and brushed by him.

"C'mon, Zal," she called to her loyal droid.  "Let's see what this place offers."  The pair of them stepped outside and reached out with their various senses.

"I need to keep an eye on mine, and we can use *yours* as bait if it comes to it," CX called after Fathima, then shrugged and let the girl get a whiff of the wonderous scents that Felucia had to offer. The hot, humid air, and the ever-present smell of decaying vegetation. He recalled it quite clearly from his last time on the planet, and was in no hurry to get a sniff of it again. Instead, he went to the cargo hold.

"I'll be needing that collar," he informed Victor, removing it without waiting for permission before turning to the force cage. "You'll be happy to know we're still alive. Though, given our current location, I can't say if it's much of an improvement. Anyway, I figured you might like a look at where we'll be spending the rest of our lives, brief as they may be," he explained, opening the cage and reaching inside to place the collar around the Jedi's neck once more.

The ramp went down silently, letting warm, damp air inside, along with swarm of starving insects.

Was it only your imagination, or were there a faint smell of blood as well?

Mercy of the Clones

Soft, yellow light fell from the skies, allowing you to witness Felucia in all its vivid glory. Blue and green mushrooms as big as trees, clouds of purple and magenta, small animals running away from you.

Untamed and wild.

And then, when you made a step forward, you noticed more details.

Rusted pieces of metal, scattered all around you. Burnt-out wrecks of various craft, overgrown by vines and fungi, a large ship or a base, now falling apart in a distance...

And hell of a lot corpses, still clad in once-white armour.

Jedi, to your surprise, was smiling, as she crouched, and touched the soil.
'So many lives... even through this device' she whispered, pointing at her neck 'I can feel it. Sense it. Once dark, this planet is now a beacon of light. For me at last.' She paused, stood up, and still smiling, added 'Here, I could become one with the Force, not regretting it.'

Vince raised his head, gazing at the Clone. It was certain that he was listening all the time. Now, all his laid-backness seemed to be gone. Instead, the rebel was dead serious and seemed totally pissed off embarassed with the whole situation he was thrown in.

"Listen up, grunt.", he barked. "I think it is a perfect moment to abandon our damned differences and start working together. Get real and stop playing a fucking overseer, agreed ? This leads nowhere and I am certain that you want to finally arrive on fraggin' Courscant in relatively one piece instead of being torn apart by some creature of huge. And it shall happen if you don't learn how to think.", he drawled. His bloodshot, wild eyes were a terrifying look to witness indeed.
"Untie me. You know there's nowhere to escape, alright ? And one more pair of hands is a pair of hands more, after all."

He knew what he smelled. Blood.

"Got that smell, man ? It's just a proof of what I just said."

"Yeah, glad you feel that way, because without a proper hospital I doubt any of you will outlive the week," CX commented, looking over at the Jedi. "I'll last longer mostly because I already left most of my internal organs behind here last time. The replacements should be a bit more resistant to the diseases around here."

That said, he turned to Victor with a sigh. "And what use would you be out here, scum? Other than mouthing off and trying, without success I might add, to overthrow the legitimate government, what skills do you have? We could toss you at one of the local beasts so you'd get eaten and give the rest of us time to escape, but for that you don't need to move any more freely. With luck whatever eats you might even choke on the chains. So," he spoke up, directing the question to the entire group, in case any of them wanted to weigh in, "why should I let you roam free?"

Fathima gazed at all the death and destruction around her.  What happened here?  It reminded her of the time when...No, now's not the time to think about that.  She forced her mind back to the situation at hand.

"Well if we find anything useful we could always use another body to help haul it back to the shuttle.  Whatever.  I'm not particularly keen on dividing half my attention to watching him when there seem to be plenty of potential predators around."  She fashioned a pair of makeshift holsters out of a belt and practiced drawing her two blaster carbines out from them.  Not too bad, she thought.  Along with the four extra power packs in her pocket, she was as ready as she could be for any potential threats.  She turned to her droid, "What's the area look like?"

"That >>scum<<, par excellance, is not bad with blasters. Short blasters, more precisely.", barked West in response.
"And I am afraid that we lack chains long and thick enough to have anything choking on them, so blasters must be sufficent..."

The dark trooper laughed coldly, removing the shackles from the rebel's arms. "Well, good luck finding one around here that still works. If you were thinking I'd give you one of mine... my brain hasn't needed replacing yet. Keep dreaming," he replied. "Of course, you try anything funny and I'll summarily rip your arms. Now, if you were so keen to go out and explore... by all means, go ahead," the clone said, taking a few steps back and motioning with his hand at the fungal jungle surrounding them.

The Rebel stood up from the seat, massaging hurt wirsts.
"Well, they ain't need no ripping, thanks. Another few hours in those bloody shackles and I would be harmless already.", he hissed.

Wasting no time, he roamed down the ramp, breathing deeply. The leg ceased to work and the rebel fell down on the bloodied soil.

"Air... Fresh air... Oh my...", whispered Vince in reprieve, trying to get up, yet somehow willing to lie in the green grass. "I forgot the taste of it already."
Then, he decided to examine the former battlefield, bodies, wrecks. Just in case someone left there something still working after all those years. He hoped that it was true officers' weapons were not made of cheap materials...

Vince was no medic, but he tried to guess the reason of the mess around.

From inside the shuttle, you heard the long litany of profanities, definitely put up by Skye. Soon, your pilot approached you on the ramp. She was just in her t-shirt... Apparently, Felucia was to hot to wear thick, grey imperial uniform jacket. Judging by the look of her face, she was not bringing good news.
'Well, it appears that we are not going to Coruscant any time soon' she muttered. 'Given enough time, I could fix main drives... But to jump to hyperspace, I'd need an working Kuat INT32 or INT33 motivator. They are as widespread as twin ion engines, or stupidity... But in civilized places.'
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character

"Oh bummer.", said West, half due to recent problems, half due to a pretty stunning look of their pilot's. She definitely had it.

"And if we had only main drives fixed, wouldn't we try finding some civilized place to get parts we lack ?", he proposed. "Damn, if I didn't leave my starmaps on Canceron..."

Of course, "finding some civilized place" was a delicious opportunity to somehow disappear in the crowd, but that he did not say.
Maybe I'd find some contact there. Or I'd make some... ? Half-bionic imperial dark troopers make good slaves, after all. And the woman... She said something about The Force. Can this be possible that the Twi'lek is a Jedi ?...
Finding nothing of interest in the grass, he lied down on the ramp, staring at the sky above and pondering.

"I'm pretty sure the shuttle interior is as civilised a place as we're going to find on Felucia," CX pointed out, always eager to rain on everyone's parade. "Granted, there's always the possibility of finding some black market post somewhere on the planet, but I doubt they'd give us the parts we'd need without us having to put down all of your vital organs and those of three generations of your future descendants as a down payment," he informed the rebel, calmly shouldering the repeating blaster.

"Our best bet at the moment is to find an LAAT or some such in good condition, or perhaps a larger ship with its hyperdrive still in one piece. I spotted a Sep core ship while we were landing, it's as good a place to start as any."

At this point, he turned to the pilot. "Any chance you could put this thing to hover with just the repulsor systems for an extended period of time? Keeping it on the ground and open around here isn't exactly the best long-term plan."
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character
Post by: Gargulec on December 16, 2009, 10:47
'Black market post?' Skye looked intrigued. 'That would explain it... You see, during our descent, shuttle sensors picked up some energy readings that surely were not emitted by anything alive. In fact, it looked like of some kind generator, or something. Anyway, we... could... change the ship hyperdrive to a salvaged one, but it would take a lot of effort. And we could always strike 'blaster in his face' kind of deal with blackmarkteres.'

She turned towards the titanic shell of core ship visible in the distance.

'One way or another' she added 'we need to know where we can find this... trading post, if it exists. And, well, such ships as this wreck used to have a very reliable and robust sensors, so you could possibly use them to find out, while on search for the hyper drive. And, after all, it is kind of big, so from atop of it, you could just mark one eyeball.'

'And, well, about hovering... No way. Those repulsors are weak, and I don't want to damage them. I'll just shut the ramp, when you leave. And, honestly, I've never heard of animal that can rip through durasteel, so there is no danger. I'd be more concerned about flying away.'

"Well, I'd rather not risk seeing what a rancor might do to the shuttle, all the same... but I suppose we should check out that ship wreck, and get a lay of the land while we're at it," CX said. "Can that droid of yours point us in the general direction?" he asked Fathima, then turned to Skye, "or, for that matter, could the shuttle's sensors do that? I've a commlink we can use to keep in touch if it becomes necessary."
Title: Re: Returns PBF - In Character

Fathima resisted to urge to scratch her scalp.  Moisture was starting to accumulate under the blonde wig she was wearing over her natural black hair - her current disguise was not prepared with this kind of environment in mind.  She considered what her companions had said.

"Skye, how sure are you about those energy readings?  If there is a black market out there, it's probably much more likely to have a working motivator than a wreck that's been out there for ages.  Anyways, my droid wasn't able to pinpoint anything useful in this messy environment, but I'll ask it to keep trying.  I'll be right back."

Fathima returned to the shuttle to grab a very compact backpack and placed in it a canteen with a liter of water and some rations, along with the multitool and datapad she was carrying.  She stopped by the refresher to check herself in the mirror, confirming her fears.  There was a small wrinkle on her facial prosthetics, which she now fixed by reattaching the piece, with extra adhesive.  More time in the humid environment probably wouldn't do her ersatz visage any good.  If her companions noticed, how would she explain things?  Well, she would deal with it when the time came.  She stepped back out of the shuttle once more to rejoin the group and called to the trooper.

"Hey, I'm tired of watching the rebel.  Mind switching our prisoners for awhile?  A little variety will help break up the monotony to avoid complacency."

"You decided to take him off the prison ship, you look after him. My orders are to make sure my prisoner reaches Coruscant in one piece, I'm not going to trust anyone else with that duty unless I have absolutely no other choice," CX replied with a shrug. "Also, if we're marching out, we'll need to either leave some supplies at the shuttle," he added, then turned to Skye, "unless you plan to come with us. At any rate... probably finding something that won't kill us as soon as we eat or drink it should be a priority alongside finding components for a hyperdrive. If that droid," he turned to Fathima again, "has any medical scanners, maybe it could at least check what we find for potential health hazards."

The Jedi looked at Fathima packing her gear.

'It seems likely, that we will need more supplies than a litter of water and a few rations...' she spoke quietly. 'This core ship... it may not be that far away, but is jungle that separate us from it- hardly a landscape for swift movment. If I could say something, I'd insist that we brace ourselves for journey two or three days long.

Fathima sighed at the new information, then spoke, "C'mon, rebel - time to pull your weight."  When he seemed reluctant to follow her, she grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him back to the shuttle to the cargo hold, away from the others.  Though one would not expect such a small lady to have the strength to drag someone around, she was well versed in the location of pressure points and knew how to use them.

The two disappeared back into the shuttle, then re-emerged moments later, the rebel now also carrying a much larger backpack.  Fathima pulled out a fancy-looking canteen and held it out in the air for a few moments, then unscrewed the top and looked inside.  She smiled when she found that it was functioning the way it was designed, probably for the first time since this whole adventure began.

And so you set off.

CX was leading the way- he was the only one to ever before visit Felucia, and even if he did not have any fond memories of it, he would be the only one to have any idea what to do, and where to go.

Soon, you entered thick mushroom jungle. Almost no sunlight was getting past the gargantuan caps, so you marched in twilight. It was an... uncanny experience. Bizarre animals were watching from a safe distance, and you had no idea, if they were going to attack, or just observe. And there were no silence, no tranquillity. The sounds emitted by flora and fauna alike filled the air with with sounds so alien... More than a few times, you saw signs of passage made by beings that could only be described as huge. And judging by the half-eaten, and half-decayed remains of various prey scattered around, not very friendly.

What else should be mentioned? Large insects buzzing around your heads? The stench of decaying tissue? Flowers in all known hues?

Indeed, you were able to watch nature in it's true form. Brutal, unforgiving, passionate.

When the small Felucian sun set, you were half-way to your destination. You were all tired, to much too tired continue your journey, so you set up camp on a tiny glade, surrounded by strange, blueish plants. Sadly, none of you had any sort of tent, nor anything to cover yourself, and shield yourselves from the environment.

CX, having no need to sleep, took the watch, as rest of you tried to make yourselves as comfortable as possible on the mushy ground.

In the morning, you were all badly thirsty and hungry, but, thankfully, nothing worse happened to you... until Vince vomited all he had in his stomach, mixed with some blood, that is. Apparently, he got bitten by something, and hence the effects.

Heavy, tropical rain then started.

"So, how did you like your first day on Felucia?" CX asked, not without some malicious satisfaction in his voice, once Vince had finished retching up what was left of his last meal. "The stuff around here doesn't care much which side you're on, but these," he patted his armour, "help a bit. I hope you're well enough to travel, or at least make it back to the shuttle on your own and try and get some medical attention out of our pilot. I'm sure as Sithspit not wasting valuable medicine on someone who actively tried to overthrow something I gave up two thirds of my body to establish. At least not unless the others speak up on your behalf."

The little lecture done, the clone moved over to check on the Jedi, and then Fathima, if they let him. "This rain's not going to do us any favours... at best it'll turn any natural pathways muddy, at worst we'll have a mudslide on our hands. Best get a move on and find that shipwreck as soon as we can. I recommend eating on the march... and not drinking any caught rainwater straight away. That stuff generally ran down a few fungal caps to get here and picked up who knows what on the way. If you or the droid have any means of purifying water..."

Remembering something, CX turned to Vince again. "You might want to hold off on eating, though, and just focus on your water intake. You won't be able to hold down any solid food, but you'll dehydrate in no time at this rate," he explained helpfully.

"Y-yeah...", yelled the Rebel, pushed into the room's corner, covered with a blanket.
"It... it's so... c-cold... in here..."

It looked like he'll not make it overnight. He was hideously pale, his eyes totally bloodshot, his body shaking and sweating. The odor of spew was hard to bear. There was a big red stain on man's neck - definitely a mark of some nasty bite.
He pulled out the blaster and raised it, clutching it weakly by the barrel.

"M... Miss...", he called Fathima. "This belongs to y-you..."

His muscles were too exhausted to hold it, so the weapon (protected and unloaded before, luckily) fell to the ground with a thudding noise.

"How about... a de-deal ?", he spoke after a while. "I-if... If we make it to a... b-black... market...", the Rebel coughed heavily for a few seconds.
"If we make... make it... I shall... I shall obtain the w-warp driver... u-unit... for you... I us'd to be a... me-merchant..."

"B-but... The antibiotic... I m-must... Get... Urgh... Get it... N-now..."

Then, the Rebel caught the bucket and vomited inside it.

"If... Eh. If it is... contagious..."

Fathima let the trooper check her over; she hoped she didn't catch whatever was out there, but was on her guard whenever he was examining her face.

Immediately as the rebel dropped her holdout blaster, Fathima grabbed the fallen weapon.  "How did you get that?" she exclaimed, and made a show of patting her pockets, as if she was surprised it was missing.  She continued.  "Never mind.  Trooper, it's definitely not the time to think about sides in the war out there if we want to survive.  An extra pair of eyes and set of hands will probably make a major difference in this hostile environment, and if his claims of being a merchant is true, his skills will come in handy if we meet others and we barter for what we need, especially since we didn't bring many valuable goods with us.  So I think it's best for you to treat him.  You need to survive to complete your mission, right?  My droid back at the shuttle also has another 5 doses we can replenish from when we get back, in any case.  We should also build a shelter to wait out the rains the best we can."

CX would probably look disheartened if it weren't for the helmet covering his face. "It just seems a waste to use up medicine that's in short supply on someone who'll likely be summarily executed as soon as we reach Coruscant," he pointed out bitterly, taking out his medkit and from there measuring out one dose of antibiotics. "And it's not because of any prejudices," he added in an annoyed tone. "I lost both legs, an arm and most of my internal organs to bring about a new era of peace and stability, and scum like him are already trying to overthrow it. You'd be bitter as well if you were in my place," he explained, while at the same time injecting Vince with the medicine. "Now you make this count, because it'll take a lot more persuading to get me to give you another dose..."

Hearing CX speech, the twi'lek laughed. Very bitterly.

'New age of peace and stability?' she smirked. 'This is true only if by peace and stability you understand a 'Sith regime', build by a man, that did not flinch even when he was slaughtering innocent children. And you still believe that destroying our Order was needed, that slaughter you have started was necessary? Maybe you are not aware that Order 66 was issued by the very same person that was commandeering Confederacy Of Independent System? He was know as Darth Sidious... And Chancellor Palpatine'

She paused. When she started speaking again, her voice has changed, and she was not looking at you.

'In the end, you were right, Fay...'

"Well, for one, your order and the republic weren't doing a terribly good job of keeping the peace, I should point out. Otherwise we wouldn't have been needed, or indeed even created. However you cut it, you failed to do your assigned duty, and now you're just being sore losers and trying to screw over the ones that got the better of you. And the few Jedi we missed are at the forefront of creating more and more discord. Of course, I suppose that does at least mean there's still a need for me and mine. I wonder, what would your Republic have done with its grand army once the war was over? We're not exactly as easy to smelt down and turn into something useful for peacetime like those gearheads..."

"Quiet, you. You already got one dose, now stop being a baby and get up, we've still a day's march ahead," the clone growled at Vince, then looked back to the Jedi.

"To you, he started the Clone Wars. To me... he's the reason I'm alive in the first place. And the reason why two thirds of my body is replacement parts at the same time. It's complicated, I suppose. But it's not really about the person... it's about the people. Palpatine created the Empire, and it has worked well up until now. Should he..." the clone trooper hesitated. "I was going to say I'd shoot him myself if it became apparent he wasn't doing the Empire any more favours, but I suppose that's just wishful thinking on my part. At any rate, we're all just gears in the great machine. Now let's get these four gears moving before, or so help me I'll just throw you over my shoulder and continue on my way."

Thankfully, the rain ceased soon after you left your glade. It was, however, intense enough to change all pathways through the jungle into small rivers of mud which, along with Vince being barely able to walk, made you travel at much slower pace.

Somewhere in the middle of the way, you were contacted by Skye via commlink. Judging by her voice, she was rather tired.

'In case you're still alive, I have some news for you' she said. 'I opened up the engine, and started the repairs. Not an easy task, but I will be able to finish it in a few days, with the little help of this droid. That's one. And second thing is that the long range scanners of this shuttle has picked up something big, size of a frigate at least, entering the atmosphere seven hundred clicks north from my position. I don't know if it is imperial, and I'm not particularly keen on contacting it. Also, sergeant, there is something I think you should see. Check your datapad. Skye out.'

CX took out his commlink when he heard the signal of an incoming transmission. He listened to it patiently, not stopping, just forging on ahead and clearing the path as necessary with the help of his vibroblade.

"I wouldn't expect pursuit just yet - we've only been here a short time and with our drive failing, I doubt anyone expected us to come here," he replied after Skye had finished. "Still, monitor their transmissions if you can, and maintain radio silence while possible. Whoever they are, I doubt they'll take kindly to us. Keep up the good work," he said, then ended the transmission, stowing his commlink away and instead taking out the datapad to see just what it was that Skye had meant.

Then it started. Before anyone could react, a large, greyish creature leaped from the mushrooms, overwhelming Fathima. Blood sprayed everywhere as it tore the woman's jugular. Worse still, you could clearly hear howls and growls from behind your back. Closing in very fast...

CX shouted, though rather than open fire on the creature that had killed Fathima, he whirled and sprayed a burst of automatic fire from the repeater at the charging beasts instead, reasoning that maybe, just maybe, the other one would be happy with its catch long enough for him to dispatch its mates before joining in the fray properly.

"Damn !", drawled Vince. "Fathima !"
Seeing no chances of saving his fellow, he quickly glanced around, seeking a safe path to escape the field.

"Oh. This is not exactly what I was looking for..."

Seeing the blaster lying few steps away, dropped by the woman when a beast had killed her, the rebel dashed towards the weapon and grabbed it, holding tightly.

"Dance for me, bitch !", he taunted and pulled the trigger, aiming at the nearest creature - the one finishing its meal.

Vince and CX fired simultaneously. The creature eating Fathima howled, as bolts burnt it's back. Then, it quickly turned, and jumped into the foliage, disappearing again. Meanwhile, CX tried to gun down oncoming beasts. Despite firing for more than three seconds, creatures proved to be exceptionally nimble, dodging most of the fire-storm. One of them, however, got slightly grazed, and stayed back a bit, allowing the second to lunge.

It launched forward, trying to pin CX to the ground, as its mate did to Fathima. However, seasoned clone managed to dodge the beast, and got only one, deep scratch, as it landed next to him.

Seeing the beast cowardly running away from the battlefield, Vince turns quickly and attempts to gun down the beast striking at CX.

Seeing the first attacker so quickly driven off, CX turned his attention instead to the last beast still keeping its distance, figuring the species for an ambush predator, not keen to get into a prolonged fight. With the second beast close in and easier to monitor (and hopefully able to relieve him of another troublemaking companion), he decided to try and chase off the distant creature. First moving quickly away from the one that lunged at him to provide some safety margin, he turned the repeater on the distant creature, firing off a shorter, more focused burst of fire.

Vince fired at the creature, sure to at least wound. He was quickly proven wrong. Maybe the disease, or maybe just the creature was so dammed fast, but he only managed to burn a few scorches on a nearby mushroom. It is very bad thing to be such an unlucky fellow, after all.

Meanwhile, CX stepped back from the creature attacking him, and fired a short burst at the oncoming beast. The results, however, were far from what he have expected. Again, the beast proved to be far to fast to get simply gunned down, and effortlessly dodged all blaster bolts.

However, it did not attack CX, nor even Vince. The beast have apparently noticed your Jedi Master, and found her really attractive... in a manner, at least. Both turned towards her, as she tried her best to hide, and both charged. To your surprise, even in handcuffs, the twi'lek managed to evade them both, in a way to fluid and elegant for you to ever dream of replicating.

CX swore under his breath when the two beasts went after his ward. Killing the odd woman, or per chance the rebel, no worries there. Trying to eat him, he could understand. But he'd not let these beasts get between him and his mission. Shouting a challenge, the clone let loose with another burst of fire, sweeping the repeater in an arc to scythe a burst of fire lower to the ground, hoping to hit the creatures' legs or, if the shots should just carve up the ground, at least get the beasts' attention away from the Jedi.

Slightly desoriented, Vince laughed out loud, maniacally. Then, he calmed down and kept on firing.
This time aiming more carefully.

No matter how lucky and nimble those creatures were, they could not elude your fire for so long. Concentrated barrage from both Vince and CX shredded both of them.

Well, it would appear that you've survived. Apart from Fathima, that is.

"Hmm. Well... that at least solves the matter of the spy," CX commented, looking over what remained of Fathima, picking out useful supplies from the remains and handing them off to the Jedi for carrying. "We should move on. I'm less worried about anyone hearing the shots than I am about scavengers picking up the scent of the kill," he instructed, using some disinfectant to dress the minor wound he'd received, knowing full well how those could develop...

The twi'lek leaned over Fathima's body and closed her eyes, whispering something you could not hear. As ordered, she picked up her sack, and with faint sigh, put it over her back.

'I know this creatures' she said, passing by the slain bests. 'Vornskr. They are one of the most dangerous animals in the Galaxy, they say.'

She gave Fathima one last look.

'So much lost... So much.'

And then you heard another voice, harsh and a bit... amused?

'Well, well what have we here...'

You turned around to see a zabrak female in a worn uniform with so many patches and bands on it that you could not determine if it was imperial or rebel to being with. She was holding a blaster carbine in her hands.

'Are you a vultures, I wonder?' she asked. 'A scavengers poking amidst battlefields which have been long since cleaned? Or merely an intruders, come into this predator filled jungle of mine in search of... easy prey?'

She rose, letting the gun hang loosely. Obviously, she was not afraid of you. Not a bit. Then she noticed the twi'lek. For a second her face changed, slightly, but enough let you understand that she knew her from before.

'No matter' she said, after a while. 'Whatever the reason, you are certainly not prepared for Felucian jungle. One of you is sick, and second unarmed. You won't get far...' she paused, to let her speech sink in. 'Unless you allow me to help you.'

"If you're so keen to help, you can carry him," CX replied, indicating the sick rebel with a shrug. It was quite clear from his tone that he neither liked, nor trusted this new arrival, though he had to make some concessions for the sake of the Jedi. Even with Fathima out of the picture, their limited supplies would only last so long...

"We're not planning to stay here or take anything off this planet that wasn't here to begin with. We simply require parts to affect repairs of our ship's hyperdrive and continue on our way," the clone added by way of explanation, keeping the repeater rifle at the ready.

"I can walk by myself, thanks.", cut back Vince, smiling weakly and falsely, too.
He slowly stepped towards the Zabrak. His leg kept on pulsing, his face muscles twitching in pain. There was a visible stream of sweat on his brow.
"What kind of help do you want to offer us ?", he said with a deeply concealed sarcasm. "And what do you want in return ? Who the hell are you, woman, to appear out of nowhere and make some strange offers to random travellers ?" - thus saying, the Rebel quickly became dead serious, barking a barrage of questions in direction of the woman and holding his blaster tightly, in emergency. The fever was dancing in his mad glare. "Justify yourself. NOW."
He raised his weapon...

...for Vince didn't see the Zabrak, but his old, old fellow - the one responsible for selling them out during Endor incident... Oh, the speech was so familiar. Some random idea for a buisness thrown suddenly, some shady proposition of taking a shortcut. He would happily gun the person right there down, piece by piece, starting with knees, followed by hands, arms...

Vince, already weakened by the disease fell on the mushy soil. Jedi approached him and helped him up.

'It was unnecessary.' she said.

'You're wrong.' replied Triz, smiling. 'And I guess that I must thank you, whoever you are' she gazed at CX. 'This guy is clearly hallucinating. And appears to be sick, in both meanings of this word.'

The zabrak closed down on you.

'You can have problems acquiring spare parts here. If you hoped for salvaging wrecks, then I'm sad to inform you that it was already done, several times, so it is highly doubtful that you'll manage to find anything useful there.

'You may, however, try to reach Galazi's Refuge. It is not *that* far from my dwelling, to which I now invite you, and, if I am not wrong, you can buy a lot there, if you have creds, that is. So?'

Visions slowly fade away. There's no more stormtroopers around... except one bloody clone, mocking at him. Vincent is back in the jungle. His throat is sore, his head seems to burn from inside, his lips are dry...
He slowly stands up, making use of Jedi's hand.
"Thank you.", he whispers silently, smiling, but not without fatigue.
Then, he grabs a blaster from the ground and raises his head, weakly clutching the weapon in his hand.

'Let us get going' the zabrak commandeered. 'We've wasted enough time here.'

She led you through obscure pathways to the wrecked coreship. With her guidance, you were able to reach it much sooner than you would on your own.

Standing next to the ship made it look enormously big, towering over you and obscuring the sun. You could clearly see many burns and breaches on the hull- clones did a good job bringing it down.

'Let me welcome you to the little, humble place I dare to call home' said Triz, smirking. She pointed you towards one of the breaches, placed so continently that it allowed you to get inside.

To your surprise, despite all the damage and time that has passed since this ship was in use, interior was still lit by dim, red emergency lights.

'CIS built this ships really robust' explained Triz. 'And with a reliable power plant.

After a while, you reached the CIC of the ship. Apparently, your guide has adopted it to serve as a habitat, for you could see many boxes of food rations and a two sleeping bags stuffed in the corner, along with numerous other personal items scattered all over the room. Quiet buzz of the machinery indicated that at least portion of it was still working.

Triz entering the CIC again cut short the conversation. In her hands, she carrying a pneumatic needle and a vial of greenish liquid. She crouched next to Vince, and before he could protest- or thank- injected him in the neck. It was matter of seconds until he started feeling considerably better.

Then, the zabrak turned towards CX and the Jedi.

'You know, I did not have the opportunity to ask about your whereabouts. You have crashed, this I know. But who are you aside of it? What brings a twi'lek with slaving collar on neck, Imperial soldier and a person that looks like retired pirate together on one ship?'

"Long story short, the ship we were travelling on was attacked. We picked up two more crewmembers along the way, and this one who'd escaped from his cell in the chaos, no doubt," this time he indicated the rebel with a nod. I can pose for a deserter or bounty hunter in a pinch," the clone said with a shrug, then looked at Vincent, his cold glare somehow getting past the expressionless faceplate of his helmet. "Good idea, sir ! Shoot me now, you'll sooner start accustoming to the place. If you are so willing to stay in here until your sorry ass rots completely, have it your way.", the Rebel laughed at the stormtrooper's invisible cold glare, at his semi-intimidating manner of speaking, at the picture at whole. "This...", he added, becoming calm after a while, "...is gonna lead you nowhere, soldier. No-where !"

"At a point of disguise. I suppose you did not think of why someone like me would be a company of a deserter or a travelling mercenary. Which is a mistake. How about disguising as a travelling merchant and his personal escort ? This would fit the background we're in a bit better and would make potential creating of our way outside slightly... easier. Do you get what I meant ?"

It seemed like Rebel felt a bit better than before. Whatever the medicine was, it appeared to work rapidly.

"And may I know who we have the pleasure visiting at the moment ?", he asked after a moment. "You got to know who are we and what are we doing here. I suppose we want to know the same about you... in return."

Although, hmm..." the clone looked over at the rebel, the tone of his voice suggesting a big grin under his helmet. "Smuggler, Mandalorian muscle, and collared slave... we should fit in just perfect," he said with a nod, turning to the Jedi once more. "Alright. We've got a merchant and her bodyguard. It would be nice if you took that piece of metal off her neck. This just sort of does not fit too good, tu sais."
After a while, he stopped being calm. When the trooper spoke his mind, that is.
"Yo, keep your sadomasochistic toys outta me, right ? All of you have some wierd dreams about collared slaves, alright ? Hands off, prick.", drawled the Rebel. "Cultural attache, good, trade consultant, even better. Nobody pays attention to slave's words - this way you wouldn't be able to use my talents in negotiations. We would sell the damned thing - at least few creds for beginning would help much better than your feeling of safety. You really don't have to worry about your rotten ass, trust me. Our dead companion probably wasn't as much of an Imperial as she would've liked us to believe. That's three," the clone listed off.

"Miss, your words make me wonder.", he added, turning to Triz, a bit suprised, but with a generous smile. "You gave us shelter, you've shown us the way towards the post, finally, you presented me with a cure for that nasty thing I am suffering from. And now you are saying that you do not feel much obliged to help us. Quite suprising, all that hospitability, you know what I mean - the most of unwilling people would not dare to even speak to us. 'So you have a pilot as well?' asked Triz. 'Well, if she manages to get here, she can stay as long as she wants. As do you, I really do not find your presence disturbing.'

She yawned, put down her gun- finally!- grabbed one of the sleep bags, and quickly put herself into it. Indeed, the day was almost over, and Vince as well felt sleepy and very tired. CX... well, he did not.

'But mind that I don't want to turn myself into a charity, so sooner or later, I will demand payment for my help to you. I hope that you concurred so much, right?' she added, before falling asleep. 'And try to avoid fiddling with the electronics here... I took me a few ages to repair them, and last thing I would want is some grunts fiddling with it. And that's all for today, good night for you.'

With those words on her lips, she closed her eyes. Few minutes later, CX's commlink came to life, filling the silence with familiar, female voice.

'Skye here... What's going on with you, people? I was trying to reach you for last few hours! Are you dead or something?'

CX wasn't feeling quite so tired yet to sleep when everyone else did. Good thing, too, when the commlink piped up. He left the room where the others had been sleeping to go to a more quiet part of the ship to take the call.

"We're alive. At least most of us are. The spy you found out had a run-in with the local wildlife, I'm afraid. No such luck with the rebel, though. Night passed quickly for CX.

A the sun rise, Triz woke up, and then she has woken up Vince as well. He was feeling much better, yet still a bit exhausted.

'Are you ready?' she asked, after a you ate a breakfast that consisted of a few ration bars. Yummy.

"Have we got a choice?" CX muttered. He might be a clone engineered to kill, but he still could be cranky in the mornings.

Vince didn't comment, chewing slowly. He still looked slightly pale, pushed in his little warm corner, but at least his stare seemed a bit more calm than a few hours before. However, this did not clearly mean a good mood.
In fact, if only he could, he'd happily greet a new day with a few nasty words, but in this state he was pretty much unwilling to open his mouth except for another bite.
Swearing in his thoughts as loud as he could think, he got up and straightened, his bones giving away a loud click.
Orders lost, ship wasted, and I am here with a damned imperial grunt, a shipwreck, a malaria and a complete lack of money... Hell, if there's any absolute listening to me, my thanks for dipping me into such piece of shit. You rock, oh omnipotent nobody.

'Let us not linger, then' said Triz, and lead you all out of wreck, Her craft- an old, but very robust Airspeeder was concealed beneath thick camo netting, so you passed just by it yesterday. She let you in- CX took the front seat, while Vince and the Jedi sat in the rear. Then, she started the repulsorlifts. They were old, no doubt and very, very loud.

Outpost

The flight took you well over two hours. Due to the noise, there were no conversations going on it cabin, so one could call it a very boring journey.

The black market outpost- or rather a small town now did not look impressive or intimidating by any means. Build for republic prefabs and finished with various junk, it looked exactly like any other backwater den in the Outer Rim.

'We're here. I'll contact you when I am going to leave this place and you better do not ignore it for I don't like waiting. Bye for now you heard from Triz after leaving the cabin and before she started the craft again.

Your arrival drew some attention- but, thankfully not more that any other strangers would. Few bored individuals looked at you with mild interest, but majority of mulit-racial crowd just ignored you.

'So, what is your plan now?' the Jedi asked CX. 'And, if you are really going to turn me in, the please, could you allow me to enjoy this last time among people that are not planning to hurt or kill me?'

"Soon as we come to such a place, I'll consider it," the clone replied flatly, looking around his surroundings. Thankfully, his helmet concealed the expression of disgust and mistrust on his face. "For now, I would recommend we stick close, rather than wander off. Now..." CX turned to the rebel, "might I suggest we start looking for the components we need?"

"A canteen, perhaps ? Or would we take a walk through some marketplace, if you find any...", pondered West, scratching his beard. He looks around carefully - keeping an eye for the situation around is important in such places. Opportunity to gain something by any means is very oftenly almost impossibly common.

Before any of you could decide what to do, three man approached you. They were all armed with rundown blaster carbines and wore equally worn uniforms, with Alliance badges. They appeared to be cautious, but thankfully were not pointing their guns at you.

'Newcomers, eh?' asked one of them, taking a careful look at you. 'Then please give us a proof that you are not imperial spies. Explain who you are and why did you come here in the first place.

Vince grinned, stepping forward and standing firm, keeping his hands together behind his back.
"Good day to you, friends. I'm glad to see you of the Alliance here. The name's Vince. We are... well, uh, we *were* roving traders only yesterday. Our ship has got a bit damaged... In fact, it's got completely wrecked... And now we are trapped here until our pilot makes it to repair the damned thing we managed to escape it with. The reason why do we visit your outpost is simple, really - we need some parts to accomplish the repairs and get out of here, nothing more. Questions ?"
Saying this and gazing at the speaker, he moved his eyeballs twice, like trying to point at the clone a bit to his left and behind him (the rebel turned his head only a bit to the right), returing them to look forward into the guard's eyes and pointing again. His grin was substituted with an unlovely facial muscle twitch. When he finished speaking, he only moved his lips, trying to pass the words "help me".

"Spies would have come better-prepared," CX observed, then turned to Vince. "Honestly, you tell me to bring all these guns, but then you get the bright idea to only bring enough medicals that we use a third of the stuff up keeping you from coughing up all your blood in one go on the first night planetside. And I haven't had a proper meal since we left the ship, either. You just had to get us stranded on Felucia of all places, didn't you," he growled.

CX's armour of course still had the unmistakeable shape of that of a stormtrooper, but his trip through the swamp had left a very noticeable mark on it... the markings he'd added before they left their hiding spot only added to giving it a feel of a captured prize, rather than regulation uniform.

The Rebel turned on his heel.
"Oh yeah ? Listen up, stubberscum, if we'll ever find ourselves ONCE AGAIN in a situation like this, YOU take care of recovering medicals instead of guns. I know you are able to think clearly when the ceiling caves in AND flames burst out everywhere ! I'll take the firing back part on me. At least I shoot to kill, not to warn. One warning, okay, but whole three bursts ?! Fucking sensible, dude !", he howled in response, showing how much "angry" he is.

"My apologize for my personal bodyguard, boys. He's none too bright, knows nothing about survival and is a bit too cheeky. I promise I'll kick his ass as soon as we are outta here.", he continued, turning his back on the stormtrooper.

"If it wasn't for me, *your* ass would've been critter food yesterday," CX reminded his "employer".

"Yeah, yeah, thanks. Your debt is almost paid.", the Rebel sneers, then turns again to the guardsmen, facing them with a weak smile. A stream of sweat goes down the side of his head.
