Thanks for your help everyone, what do you think the preferred class build for Draconians is?  I mainly play fighter characters...

Hi folks, I have a question on Draconians.  When do Draconians transform into their stronger form?  I'm assuming its sometime past level 5, because mine usually get killed before that point :(

Thank you for your advice, I needed that help :)

 23 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 4 couldn't handle the stress and commited a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
1 killed the bastard and survived.

As you can probably see from the Mortem, the Arach Caves showed up ALOT on this run, but I was pretty much ready for them.  On one of them, an Invincibility Globe showed up and the Arachs were basically free EXP.  On the others...while lets just say I didn't put what I did into ToN for nothing.  I skipped a few of the tougher enemies, most notably an Arch-Vile (I heard its cry) on the level before Cybie, but got a much higher kill percentage than my first win (where I only killed 75%.  The BFG is invaluable versus Cybie himself, as was the Advanced Rocket Launcher (which for some reason just randomly showed up without me having to go to The Wall...oh well) :)
By the way, this game is officially my favorite roguelike :)

Say you have a weapon in your backpack (not in your hands or in your "equipped" setting and you want to reload it.  Is there any way to do so?  I say this because in the Pistol challenge, I can't switch to reload my supplemental weapon because "the gun sticks to my hand" (can't switch from the advanced pistol)

To answer your question on difficulty, I am playing AoB on Medium difficulty. I recently beat Easy for the first time and am looking for a new challenge.

Good idea with TaN and Ironman, I usually don't use them because my typical strategy is to stay in Coward and shoot things with Chaingun as far away as possible.

Requests For Features / How strong will Mancubus be?
« on: March 29, 2007, 11:54 »
In the old Doom games (not sure about Doom 3, never played it), Mancubus was weaker than Baron of Hell but stronger than Hell Knight. Mancubus also had rockets with a splash effect, which many monsters' attacks in DoomRL do. How will Mancubus differ from the existing monsters in Doom RL?

Discussion / On Angel of Berserk mode

What exactly is the recommended strategy for finishing this challenge? I've heard several people say that its "easy", but I've always gotten killed on the very early levels before I get decent armor and the Chainsaw.  Would it be recommended to pick Hellrunner first instead of Brute so I could actually dodge the enemies' attacks, then swtich from Coward to Aggressive for the close fighting? I'm having trouble figuring out a good strategy, since pure melee fighting is rather rare in the Doom universe.

Pre-0.9.9 / [E 75%] YAVP-My First WIN!!!
« on: March 27, 2007, 22:17 »
In retrospect, I was very lucky to get the advanced plasma rifle ( I usually play Chaingun games, this is the first time I actually won).  I guess the RNG had to yield something good after throwing 3-4 Cacodemon-filled caves at me. The Cacodemons actually helped me get my SoB up to Level 3, which went along way to helping me kill Cybie in the final battle.
I chose Cateye over Intuition for less cheese.
The Arch-Viles were nasty as always, but the blast radius of the rockets let me hit them and their minions at the same time. Too bad I didn't finish The Wall and get the Advanced Rocket Launcher (sigh)...

Requests For Features / Question on Arach Caves
« on: March 16, 2007, 14:34 »
I know that there is a certain amount of chance that the gamer will encounter a "wide open level" (one where they may be attacked by a large amount of creatures at once without any walls to stop the advance) on any given level.  But I recently died due to the fact that I encountered a level with dozens of cacodemons AND THEN went directly to the Arach Caves level afterwards. Is there any way to prevent events such as these from occuring, or is this part of the game programming. I don't think its a "bug" per se, but it just seems somewhat awkward.

Requests For Features / Re: On Pain Elementals
« on: March 12, 2007, 13:38 »
The main reason I brought up the Mastermind was because I thought including it as a special boss in one of the randomly generated "Arach Cave" levels would be a nice way to implement an additional boss to the game.

As for limiting the Arch-Vile's resurrections to a certain amount of times; sounds good for lower difficulty levels, but it should stay as it is for higher ones.

Requests For Features / On Pain Elementals
« on: March 11, 2007, 17:50 »
In the non-Roguelike Dooms, Pain Elementals cannot be revived by Arch-Viles. But in Doom Roguelike, they can, and I recently experienced a cheap death because an Arch-Vile kept reviving a Pain Elemental, which kept spewing out Lost Souls until I couldn't move or dodge anywhere. Is there any way to nerf the Arch-Vile resurrection ability so that it doesn't effect Pain Elementals? I've only had a problem related to this enemy because it spawns other enemies.

Also, could we see a Spider Mastermind in the next expansion? I really like the implementation of the Arachs and their one weakness :)

I would have had more items, but the Butcher kept breaking my stuff :(

In future versions of the game I'd like to see:
*more ranged/magical weapons and combat
*at least onesecret mission with an "in-joke" about Blizzard and/or the Diablo series
*a "druid" class that could summon animals like the pets in NetHack (could have multiple types of pets, but could only summon one pet at a time; since the game is turn-based, restrictions have to be in place
*there are many typos in this game's dialogue that should be fixed (i.e. sturdiness is spelled "strudiness"

But a pretty good game so far :)

Answering Kornel's question, it is possible to beat the game with the Berserk Sword unavailable.  I beat the Butcher with an Axe of Dexterity. He broke alot of my armor before I was able to kill him off :(
