Can anyone give us a hint on how to pick UP the DS? Is there ALWAYS a way to pick up a DS if you randomly find one without expecting it? (say on an Ao100/AAo666 run)

I've got a question on assemblies. I've decided to try a Sharpshooter technician, made a storm bolter and encountered a strange thing:

The wiki explicitly states:

Nevertheless, I checked it with a bulk mod and, to my surprise, it was successfully installed on the bolter.

What is it? Was the bolter changed in the latest version, is it a bug or the page at the wiki is outdated?

the problem is not enemies attacking the doomguy, or even enemies attacking from hidden areas, It's the randomness around it, making it unpredictable.

I think that sums it up very nicely. Thanks for this explanation. The reason why I originally posted this, is not that I find it unreasonable, that enemies can shoot you from out of sight. I posted it, because that is usually not what happens. In 99% of all situations enemies can only shoot you when you can see them. That makes the few corner cases, where this is not so, unexpected and seemingly random.

I wanted to report, that this is still an issue in 0.9.9.7. This happens sometimes (but not exclusively) when a monster is standing in a door on the edge of vision. An example without a door involved is:

I moved to determine the formers position, so he might also have moved one step there. He continued to shoot at me when I moved back, though. (And still was not in vision range).

Finally found Dragonslayer + Berserk Armor in my Ao666 Blademaster run. I also read quite a bit of the Berserk! manga

So now - troll mode on:

It sucks! - Here's why:
 - It turns the game into black and red mode. "What is that mod pack there?" Go and [l]ook!
 - "Let's blast this wall with the rocket launcher - doh, it's cursed!"
 - The ripper does more dps on average (If you are already berserk).
 - Unless you are surrounded by cyberdemons, there is no reason to ever use whirlwind.

That was for the dragonslayer, the berserk armor is worse, because of the crazy movespeed malus (-70%). Before wearing it I could basically kill everything before it had a chance to move (Antigrav boots (x2.5) + HR3 (x1.8)  + scout berserk (x1.6) = 2.5x1.8x1.6 ~= 7x basic movement speed, Berserker Armor (x1/1.7) cuts it down to ~4x basic movement speed). If you find it, consider staying with another armor for a while. Even a PTA modded blue or red armor is better.

3rd Edit: Corrected info on movement speed. Berserk gives 50% Bonus which is added to the 10% scout bonus (not multiplied) for a total of 1.6. The berserker armor malus was calculated wrongly.

I recommend trying out gunrunner + SM with a missile launcher for sheer awesomeness. It takes a while to get it running, and I am not so sure it is worth it for normal gameplay, since I hate destroying my cover, but in open spaces you can dish out ridiculous amount of rockets while avoiding hits.
Should give a good chance for damageless spiderdemon, too since he will always flinch when taking a rocket to the face.

Have a look at the messages at the end. Unfortunately I ran out of rockets at the end, so I had to finish the Mastermind of with the shotgun.
Gunrunner + Shottyman + Missile launcher means you move, shoot and reload with one step. Since you also will be running, thats a ridiculous amount of rockets dished out in a very short time without getting hit.
Unfortunately I wasn't careful and got hit by the Mastermind before I could start swarming him with rockets.

I didn't get to try out Gunrunner in normal gameplay yet, since I got it quite late. I suspect it is less useful there, because I value my cover too much, and splash damage can still hit you.

AoRA was only taken for change of pace. It probably would have fitted gunrunner well, if I hadn't got it so late.

Post Mortem / [U|100%|YAFW] Gatekeeper Diamond & nuked JC

Got Fireangel before the anomaly, so I could use a damageless rocket jump. That made the gatekeeper badge much easier. Used the trigun to nuke both the mastermind and JC (Lava elemental and phase device for invulnerability). Nuking JC didn't produce any special message though.
I am really happy Fireangel works now. It is also quite a cool melee trait once you get it running.
Mortuary and two arachnoton caves were close calls, their plasma damage hurts. New Halls of Carnage have really fast lava flow. had to use an envirosuit in the end.
