As long as I'm forcibly taking a break from the game, let's take a moment to take stock of the current situation. I'm going for the A100 Gold, and have made it to 29 so far (highest run up until now was 53, this one currently coming in 2nd place).

I'm a L11 Sharpshooter (SOG3 EE3 MSS WK2 INT2) armed with a stormbolter (so levels 12 and 13 will be SOG again). I have a focused double prepared, and a missile launcher stashed away somewhere for the dirty work, 2 stacks of rockets, 2 stacks of shells and about 10 stacks of 10mm. Armor isn't grand (P-modded blue with a T-modded red as a spare), but I'm only 1 P-mod short of the Cerberus boots. Sidequest: finishing off 1 Mancubus with a slap in the face, so my experience rank rises (though I won't be buggered if this doesn't happen).

Apart from taking time to not make any stupid moves, what else advice could I do with in order to increase my chances of bringing home the gold?

Requests For Features / Placement of Hell's Arena Entrance

The Hell's Arena entrance is set to appear either on level 2 or level 3 of game. Depending what type of game I'm playing, I will either:

1) not care whether it appears on level 2 or 3, since I'm going to be able to beat it.

2) definitely don't want it to appear on level 2, since being able to do level 3 will give me an additional skill and prep me for another after the first few kills on HA itself. If it appears on level 2, I restart the game, since I've done nothing more than complete the Base Entry so far.

Why not have the entrance appear on level 3 by default?

Most of the weapons you can find throughout any game will have to manually be wielded. As of yet, I've found 2 notable exceptions, being the chainsaw and the BFG. The former makes kind of sense in the light of the berserk that comes with it, but why on earth in Hell would you arm yourself with a handheld doomsday device in a six-tile room when most enemies in the level are likely already dead?!

(The actual beef with this is that I got very annoyed when I found out I wasn't in fact clubbering the last remaining demon to death with my previously equipped chainsaw, but with the business end of the BFG).

Please switch off the BFG auto-wield.

Amazed I got this to work as planned. Got out of the Arena with no more than the shirt on my back, nearly got swamped after killing the agony elemental (thank RNG for spare phases), saw " Health   1% " appear somewhere through L23 I think, overloaded the BFG on L24 only to find out you need to pull the trigger to arm it (AAAAAARGH I DROPPED AN ACTUAL NUKE 2 LEVELS AGO) - educational experience to say the least.

When zerk finally kicked in, it was smooth sailing all the way. Got me another stripe. Or star, I honestly don't know.

Wow. It's not the first time I faced the Mastermind, but it never sucked this hard - having my armor blasted off 1 turn and my health the next; repeat. In hindsight I should have brought that BFG or NPR along, would've at least earned me the last Silver I need for a promotion. Decided to use the space for the ammo, and still almost ran out on level 18 or 19.

How do you possibly survive going head on with Big Ugly without zerk or invulnerability?! He shoots faster than I could run and ran faster than I could shoot. Should have settled for the Partial Victory. Let's try AoB instead *cue maniacal laughter*.

Discussion / Wean Me From My Shotgun

For the last couple of weeks, I've almost exclusively been playing Scout shotgun-builds, because of the immediate access to INT and easy radar-shooting. Eventually, of course, this build is not going to cut the mustard achievement-wise. Assuming the differences in tactics for pistol or chainfire weapons are negligible due to the same line of fire, how do I go about radar-shooting effectively with these weapons, especially in wide open areas? Do you just take for granted that you require about 5 scan-shots for what the shotgun does in 1?

After 2 tries (1st ending in suicide on account of being a sitting duck having to cross lava with a Hell Knight and Imps 'guiding' my passage, and the second due to being 1 badly placed sergeant away from death at level 2 or 3), I consider this a very succesful first speed run, seeing as it netted me 4 new medals (and thus the Heroic Silver) plus the Speedrunner Bronze. I was lucky enough to find 3 or 4 consecutive Invulnerabilities plus some berserk packs in Hell, otherwise I don't think I'd have managed, since more than 1/8 of my kills were Barons/Viles/Revenants, which I had no way of shaking off.

Very freaking intense way of playing, though, I had to take a couple of breaks to have a breather and look up some stuff. Intense, but very satisfying.

Misjudged the last healthpack use there, but I can't say I really mind: unless MMB really pulls it off, I don't think I would've had much chance in Hell anyway. In hindsight, I should have taken DM earlier (brainfart), and should've at least done CC. Hell's Arena seems like certain death to me.
As for the Wall: how on Earth? The Brick Silver can be won by clearing out the Wall on AoB, but unless the wall suddenly turns from 10y of concrete to a quarter inch of glass, I don't see anything spectacular happening. Or is the chainsaw any good?
Halls of Carnage seem like a bad idea (sergeants + doors that need blasting); same goes for the City of Skulls, which seems like challenging an octopus to a boxing match. In short: I don't believe there are a lot of special levels that are doable on melee only.

Pretty satisfied for a first serious run though (the only AoBs I've tried so far ended before L5), the few tips I got really helped out. More - in particular on the special levels - are welcome.

So.... it took me 20 runs to get the basics in, but now at least I finally have a decent yield for my efforts: 9 Medals/Badges in one run, including the elusive Medal of Prejudice (damn you premature enuculation), and enough to boost me to Sergeant Major.

Now for some fisticuffs - says here I'm going to have to kill 5 Mancubi in melee. I better find that Ring of Invisibility soon :S

Is there anyway to control from which boards the Recent Posts list on the Info Center pane gets updated? I think it's really useful, but feel I get spammed from the Play-By-Forum board (no offense, I play Vampire with a couple of friends most Saturdays so I get my RPG-fix somewhere else). I've gone through my user settings but couldn't find anything...

The purple crosses that INT2 displays for enemies out of LOS turn black in berserk mode (and possibly when envirosuited as well). This makes them really hard or impossible to spot in unseen and unexplored terrain respectively. Localization on the mini-map still works. I've been informed that the console version doesn't suffer from this problem.

As indicated in the discussion thread, I don't think this should be changed (for berserk at least) per se, but I do think both G and C versions should operate in the same way.

Some of the achievements require you to take a min/max amount of damage to obtain them. There's also achievements for completing the game in a max number of turns or minutes. While the latter is extensively reported both in the mortems and in the in-game character information, the former depends on guesswork. And althought I can work out wat the average of xDy damage will be, I'm sure as hell not going to keep track of the number of times I got shot with every form of attack - I'm clueless as to the least and most amount of damage suffered in a game so far, and very curious.

Can this info be included please? The mortem would be fine, the in-game char screen would be an added bonus.

The last few runs I tried building out Scouts on INT, since it saves me a lot of ammo blasting away trying to detect enemies, and offers a better understanding of their move patterns - not to mention it keeps me fleeing from one enemy into the next. I believe I've even read someone's post on combining AoB with INT, which sounds really sensible since you'll want to creep up on enemies.

There is one major drawback to this however: once you go berserk, the crosses indicating enemy presence turn black. This means that they're really hard to spot in out-of-view explored territory, and invisible in unexplored areas. I can imagine this won't change much for the AoB - stuff you can't see, you'll definitely not going to be able to hit - but it annoys the hell out of me in regular games, leading me to actully avoid berserk packs most of the time. Most enemies are dead before they can see me anyway.

The way I see it, you can look at intuition/berserking from 2 angles:
1) You're on a rampage, and are too preoccupied with feeling your blood boil to notice enemies at a distance (which might be the  current logic, assuming there is one)
2) You smell blood, and intuition will guide you to your next prey

Whether or not making the INT crosses black in berserk mode was a deliberate choice, there are multiple ways of looking at it - other players might even consider other possible explanations. Opinions?

Since I don't have enough posts to comment directly on the Wiki - yet - I'd like to point out that it lists MRM as requiring FIN2 and DM1. According to v0996, this should be JUG1 and DM1.

On a side note, this is the only Master trait that doesn't require you to be level 6. Most need a set of traits that can't be achieved in fewer levels, and some have the L6 requirement purely to compensate for this, I guess. MRM (FIN1, HR2, JUG1, DM1)... hey wait a sec. That adds up to five, meaning you'll have to be at L6 before being able to chose MRM.

But that would mean that the L6 requirement on MSc (EE2, WK2, INT1) is redundant. Additionally, this means that these 2 traits plus the others listing the L6 requirement (MVm, MAD and MCe) can be obtained at L6, and all others at L7. Wouldn't it be fairer to have all Masters be accessible on the same level? Or are there actually instances in which you would not base your game on aiming for any one of these?

This has already been discussed before, but I'm stuck with the same problem and the solution presented in the previous discussion (closing the game using the commands/menu instead of the window's X button) doesn't cut the mustard. The only thing that gets registered in my Player Info is the play time, all other counters remain at zero. Additionally when I restart the game, any/all save games are lost. I only started playing a day ago, so I might be missing some vital info. Do you need to fully complete a run (ie until death or [partial] victory) before any stats are saved? Are saved games supposed to be deleted upon quitting?

I've also gone through the config, but as with Generic, this got me nowhere. Any pointers, anyone? Thanks.
