My firing time with blaster was .11 seconds. This is probably the absolute minimum in DooMRL, and I am telling you: it felt great. I wonder if it would be possible to do without blaster, but still, I am really proud of this game.

Some people firmly believe that there is nothing better than a gun in your hand. They are fools. You are aware, that no weapon can be as deadly as your trusty knives! And you know how to unleash their full potential- every time you land a hit with one, no matter if in melee or if thrown, your next action will take no time!

Reqs: Brute 3, Jug, HR
Blocks: Berserker, TaN, Ironman

Why? To create a new playstyle for AoB. Currently, both builds are concentrated on getting chainsaw and then LS. This one would reward you for using knives. It would be incredibly potent in combat (as long as you hit, you can basically finish everything off in one turn, but if you miss...), kind of fun (rapidly throwing knives? YES!), and very, very fragile (lack of two basic defensive traits will not make it any easier!). And after all, knife-nut doomguy would be simply FUN!

HNTR AoB is profoundly easy. At least using MVamp build. 

I am only saddened by the fact that Onyx pack came so late. But I used it to wipe Mortuary, so I can't complain.

As it is always is with AoB, early game was the hardest part- I narrowly avoided death a good few times (Jericho levers are helpful... not). Then, somewhere around level 7-9, you gain enough momentum and power to kill every single thing (barring early revilles traps). And it becomes easy then.

News broadcast was only slightly more interesting than the landscape that surrounded you, as your mecha strolled along the cracked asphalt road. Rolling hills dotted with occasional grooves and ruins in various states of decay maybe was picturesque but certainly got really old really fast- especially after three fruitless hours on patrol.

The programme ended, and soft sounds of nazzadi music filled the cockpits of your mecha. Radio accompanied soldiers- and plitos- everywhere they went, thanks to the ubiquitous satellite uplinks, standard in all machines of war. Many veterans joked that this voice from afar, from the land of civilians did better job keeping them sane than all army psychologists combined. As you observed morning slowly turning into noon, and literally nothing happening, you started to agree with them.

When reckon drone brought the data that indicated migou activity in the region of your base, your first thought was the the war finally found you. Well, no one can remain on the second line forever these days, and you spent almost a year now being sitting ducks in Karski Base, proudly named outpost that has not seen any real action since the end of the First Arcanotech War.

At any rate, after a week of tense waiting, no attack came. No patrol sighted even a single bug soldier or mecha. Whatever they were looking for- if they were at all something more than major reckon screw up, apparently it was not you.

Sun was already pretty hight on the sky, and you were closing to the end of the planned patrol route.

Iä! Shub-Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young! 

There are Cthlhu Mythos RPGs where investigators seek to unearth ancient, blasphemous mysteries only to find that they are doomed to failure and Cthluhu devours them at the rate of 1d6 per turn... but it is still fun, even if the end is still the same.

And then there is Cthlhu Tech, described by TV Tropes as:
Evangelion + H.P. Lovecraft + Macross (Robotech version) + Guyver + Akira. Still not getting the picture? Well, I tried!

In other words: It is Call Of Cthlhu in sci-fiesque crapsack world, where humanity is fighting adesperate war against full cast of Lovercraftian cosmic horrors, using battlemech of all kinds, while secret cults seek to undermine it. If you're still not sure, check the TVTropes page I linked here, it should give you better image of it.

Anyway, I am fascinated by this crazy awesome setting, and would want to run small campaign of it, here, on this forums.

Most likely, it would revolve around mecha pilots fighting the Migou in Eastern Europe, while something plainly *wrong* is happening in forests around.

I have two volunteers right now (X and M), and I think I would need between one and three more. Is anybody interested? If so (even if you don't have the rulebook) post here and/or contact me on PM.

Graveyard / BattleTech/Mechwarrior Campaing via MegaMek

Here is the idea:
There is a web, free program called MegaMek that actually allows playing BattleTech board game online (http://megamek.sourceforge.net/). BattleTech is a wargame about huge mechs outfitted with several ton of weaponry fighting over... over anything, in fact. It has well developed storyline, metric ton of options and is quite fun to play. It also gave birth to popular franchise of MechWarrior games.

So, what would the campaign involve? On-line skirmishes from time to time and the option for character development and mech upgrades/maintenance in the meantime. It would not require MUCH knowledge of BattleTech rules (MegaMek is MOSTLY automated nor any familiarity with the BattleTech storyline.

Any volunteers?

This is yet another variant of add's Infinite Arena. Fight through 25 waves of all types of enemies, and finally defeat the Death itself. You only have a very decent sword and destroyable armor, which regenerates.
They are both cursed. Armor is regenerating at the expense of your health.
No items spawn. You gain HP every time you kill a foe, and every killed shade restores you to 'cautious' state. Have fun.

GREAT, GREAT thanks to add1 and Simon-v. It would not be even remotely possible without them.

[UPDATE] New version. Disabled one very abusive trick (I hope). Added something EEEEEVIL. Tweaked spawn rates to make them less insane.

[UPDATE] New version. Pain Elementals are back. Added something NNNICE. Tweaked spawn rates. Added new version of shade.

[UPDATE] Fixes and additions. Winnable now. More sensible foe generation. No former foos. A lot of crossbows. And skeletons. Change to color scheme. Added altfire for the sword. Red shades restore the tired status. Guarantee shades at each wave. Upped Azrael.

[UPDATE] Changed some names. Some fixes. New enemy (watch for memories coming back to life!). New graphical style.

There are two versions of 005- one with partially visible floor and second with only void. Which is better?

Since Unique and Challenges are so much fun, Kornel (May He Live 'Til DoomRL 2 and then die a horrible and gruesome death) has allowed me to start a special poll, which will serve a single purpose- choosing the uniques (exotics) and challenges that should be implemented.

Barons, hell knights, cacodemons, demons and lost souls become imps.
Former commandos, captains and sergeants become former humans.
Imps, former humans, Cyberdemon, JC and AoD are immune to its effect.
Barrels hit by Degrader Gun are downgraded one step (napalm becomes acid, acid becomes fuel, fuel is unaffected).

Arm Cannon
9d9 blast damage, in one of the chosen direction.
When wielded, automatically goes into prepared slot, reduces HP by 10 and is cursed (never leaves the prepared slot). You can normally wield other weapons, but no swapping possible.
Is a set item with the Dragonslayer, however may only be wielded BEFORE the Dragonslayer.
Automatically activated by ALT-FIRE (the existing alt-fire of the weapon wielded is discarded), and reloaded with a rocket by ALT-RELOAD (same as above).

Angel of Disease
You're dying of cancer -- as long as you're dying, why not take a few demons with you?  Your max HP goes down by 1 for every 1000 moves, to a minimum of 1 plus whatever you get from ironman.

Angel of Scavenging.  You cannot reload weapons, so whenever one is empty, you just throw it away and look for a new one. I'm not sure if overloading should still work.  Either way, it means that picking up ammo will be unnecessary.  Instead, picking up multiple guns of the same type will be required.  There are tonnes of lower level weapons just lying around, so that won't be a problem.  There are even kindly former commandos handy to provide multiple plasma rifles.  Rocket launchers and BFGs will be much harder to recoup.
Perhaps generate more weapon drops to make things fair?

Angel of Barrels
"Khe, he, he. This will be a complete mess..."
What the hell happened here? The whole base from top to bottom is filled up with barrels. Maybe they had a bad day with the reactor, or in the laboratories. Each level (even the first one) is filled with explosive barrels to the brim and has limited space to walk on, sometimes there will be pockets of safe space (not really). And also when the barrels explode they leave pools of acid (the size of the pool is randomly generated to be as large as the blast or less).

The Hell Runner
"Fire walk with me"
You are so fast, that fire burns the ground you step onto. Literally. After stepping on a floor, after 5 turns it turns into lava. PROS: When low on health, you can run away through narrow corridors and monster won't chase You.
CONS: You have to plan your moves carefully (especially in the maze levels). Also you cannot stand in one place for too long.

Angel of Pain
Difficulty: HARD
Every time you kill an enemy other than a lost soul, one or more lost souls will be generated from its corpse, Pain-Elemental-style.
Weak enemies like formers or imps will create only a single soul, while arch-viles and mancubi will spawn 5-6.

I was at 150% health. I was zerking. AoD killed me in three hits. Something is very wrong here! Otherwise- fuck. It was my best AoB run in a long time. I spent last few months trying to do this. Ah, fuck!

Should you, after clearing a level, pull a lever and find yourself in a presence HB and a few former foos, for the love of the God, do not push 'u' to use one of your medpacks. Cacodemon DOES NOT make the situation any better.

(So much for my best AoB YAAM HMP run in this version...)

Graveyard / Arena anyone?

Is there anybody out there who could be interested in 4ed DnD forum arena? It would be very simple- create a character, post it, and then, on chat, fight other players with it, earning experience, glory, wine etc. Fights would not be very long nor over time taking- up to one hour, I guess. DnD rules seems perfect for it, and well, it could be fun, right? With all this competition factor, and a little story to spice it all up.

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it... MASS EFFECT.



As you can see, I am considering starting a (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect) Mass Effect-based PBF. Classic space opera, with space ships, aliens and shooting. Anybody interested in? All details are yet to be set- system, story focus, etc.
