Title: DoomRL Mini-Competition #2! [Ended, Winner : Midnight]
Post by: Kornel Kisielewicz on September 02, 2011, 13:33
Let's have some fun! This time the competition will require a lot more time, and probably some strategic thinking... As the competition time is until 15th of September, anyone has the time to try it out!

The goal is simple:
Run the game on a fresh install, and gain as much medals and badges in one run as possible!

The rules:

Dismissed, and good luck!

On the off-chance that some people are intimidated by the prospect of certain veteran players making this nigh-impossible for the rest, I'm just going to announce that I will not be entering this competition. I already have my title from the last competition and that is more than enough for me.

Although it should be obvious, an HMP victory is probably the best way to go about it, though I wouldn't be surprised if there are some other clever ways to pick up a lot at once.

Ditto

Unless there are absolutely no entries in the next few days, which I'm sure won't be the case.
Good luck everyone!

Drats, I'm disqualified by rubric 2.

/me mumbles something incoherent about looking for funds for DRL 0.9.9.6

Well, I'm not a good player but it will be fun to try I think. The competition is for 0.9.9.4? In this case it will be my first play this version also. ^_^

Since noone posted yet - here is an easy score to beat, to reassure all shy souls out there that yes, they do stand a chance.
http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4620.0.html (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4620.0.html)

Basic idea for the run:
HMP 100% kills conqueror marine with Vampyre master trait.

If you dare, try it with Malicious Blades instead, using only knives :-D

I only got 7. (ITYTD 100% Knives)

I suck at melee games, that's why I didn't try anything harder.

Might later anyway.

Everything was going absolutely perfect, so of course RNG had some nasty fate for me in store. Like a game crash. Yeah, that did the trick. Now my attempt may be disqualified, but I'll post it anyway.

http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4623.0.html (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4623.0.html)

I was going to write some witty comment about how new AI archviles are absolute, ultimate despair for a melee character, but I won't. Instead I'll go meditate on the transience of things. Perhaps I'll feel better.

Another try: http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4624.0.html (http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,4624.0.html). Score of 12 badges+medals.
Result = "no its not worth to try it at E"

Tried again, HMP 100% Entrenchment (I'm not good enough for a blades-only run).

Those VRRRV rooms? Fuck those rooms.

Needing to quit every time to delete the wads is kind of annoying when going for arena keys...

I'd like to submit my first attempt at 0.9.9.4 for the competition:

I didn't even know there was a competition at the time, but I'm not going to try again because I don't think I could do any better than 24.  :)

is copying the doomrl folder and deleting the player & score wads a 'fresh install'?  would hate to have to recopy config changes after each failure.

Actually just deleting the player.wad is enough.

Great. Midnight posted his (much better) score just 3 mins before mine, while i was happily editing my post, oblivious to the fact it is already on the loosing position. :-P.

I'll post my meager attempt anyway, for the sake cf completness:

Waaay overdue, and I'm really sorry about that, I announce the winner -- Midnight -- with a score of 28 badges!

Apart from the permanent forum title "Badge Hunter", as a form of apology for the overdue results, I also present Midnight limited time Supporter access!

Congratulations to Midnight!

Kornel, you are a man most awesome. Now I feel an irresistible urge to donate.

Which I will do.

Some day, when I set up a paypal account.

Could even happen before 2012!

Also, Alver, Tormuse - thanks for the challenge.

I could, but considering some things going on in the restricted subforums, who will believe me? (Psst guys there was a graphical Berserk! version once)
