What makes this really interesting to me is that I use the shotgun *a lot.* It's my workhorse weapon for taking care of any large group of enemies, or individual large enemies that I want to knock back. I only switch to rapid-fire weapons when there's something I want dead fast, like an Arch-Vile. (I guess this is partly why Shotgunnery Diamond was my first Diamond of 0.9.9.4)

This should've been a Marksman Diamond badge, except for a careless error at the end...
Normally, if I want to heal myself while there are enemies facing me, I'll step behind cover first, if possible, so they can't shoot me while I'm using the med-pack. Sometimes, this is a risky move, but it often saves health in the long run.
In this case, I got hit by a Mancubus barrage which wounded me, but didn't kill me. There was some convenient cover one square away, so I stepped behind it, forgetting that with the new AI, Mancubi fire off a second barrage, even if they can't see you. The explosion radius from one of the Mancubus rockets was enough to finish me off, even though it missed me. :( Come to think of it, there really was no reason for me to seek cover, considering I was a technician and could use med-packs instantaneously; I just did it out of force of habit. If I had taken a moment to think, I probably would have healed first and then sought cover.
It was a very promising game, considering that I had Sharpshooter ability and I was lucky enough to find a Trigun! (Not to mention 4 ammo chains!) The knockback from the Trigun kept anything from getting close enough to significantly damage me and once I had Intuition 2, the rest of the game should've been a cakewalk. The only reason I got hit by that Mancubus barrage mentioned above was that I didn't realize that I had emptied my ammochain, and so the last time I reloaded the Trigun, it took the full 2 seconds instead of instantly reloading. (Hmm... There should probably be a different message displayed if you use the last of the ammo in an ammo pack; something eye-catching)
The other thing that's noteworthy about this run is that it's the first time I've conquered the Arena in a Nightmare Marksman game! Every other game in which I won Hell's Arena at Nightmare was either Max Carnage or Berserk. (the latter, only once) Having a speedloader pistol at the beginning of the game was a huge help! :) (though I just barely survived HA with 8% health) After taking down the Arena Master, I briefly considered going for the Conqueror badge, but then it occurred to me that I would have to beat Unholy Cathedral and the Mortuary and I thought better of it. :P

I was expecting this Diamond badge to be more difficult than it was, mostly because I heard that there were plans to get rid of the ability to farm Pain Elementals for health and berserk in Vampyre games. Since you can still do that in this version, I'd say it's one of the easier Diamond badges to achieve!
I played it safe, not entering most of the generated levels, including Hell's Arena, although, I did go into the Mortuary because I happened to have a nuke and there was an invulnerability next to the entrance. :) I had three envirosuits when I got to the Lava Pits, and the Lava Elemental conveniently spawned three squares away from me, so I had a fairly easy time of it.
I wasn't sure whether or not I would still be able to use strategies such as wall-busting or juggling melee weapons and still have it count as a fists-only game, so I played it safe (again) and just stayed with using my fists for the whole thing. (I didn't miss my other weapons, really) I only kept the rocket launcher around so I could get credit for the assembly with it. :)
There was an invulnerability on the second-last level, so I could have gone for the full win, but I'm not sure what to expect with the new JC and I didn't want to jeopardize my Diamond by getting fewer than 100% kills, so I decided to play it safe (thrice!) and just kill the Mastermind hand-to-hand and claim her brain. :)
One more thing that's kind of funny: I still haven't unlocked Angel of Over Confidence, because I haven't achieved enough Bronze Badges! :P

Getting DS to work on an AoMr game sounds like an "I don't know whether to laugh or cry" moment. :P (Especially with a SBP in your inventory! Seems like you came out okay, though) Unfortunately, this also effectively dashes my latest theory about how to pick it up. :|

I notice that you didn't get a Conqueror badge or even an Explorer badge even though you completed all generated levels! Is that a bug?
And speaking of other Roguelikes, just out of curiosity, what server do you play Nethack on? I haven't played it in ages, but I used to play it a lot on this server. I'm still 194th place in the high score list! :D (Tormuse, of course) ;)

Luck was on my side right from the beginning. A vault on level 2 had a combat shotgun AND a missile launcher in it! It made Hell's Arena a breeze (relatively speaking) and helped in a lot of situations. (How often do you get to use a missile launcher on the Arena Master?) ;)

Buh?... Wha?... Straightforward?... :o
Um... Okay, granted, Malicious Blades is crazy powerful once you achieve it, but achieving it in a melee-only game is quite difficult. Achieving it in a Nightmare melee-only game is really quite pretty damn difficult. I would say achieving it and winning the game in the space of an hour is close to impossible! (I would have to carefully plan every move and take my time!) Achieving all of that with 92% kills seems... erm... even closer to impossible! (25 levels plus 8 generated levels means that on average, it took you less than two minutes to clear each level, all by melee!) But this... you cleared Hell's Arena with a (presumably unmodded) combat knife without Berserker trait! That's sexually intimate with impossible! O_o (or something?) :P
Okay, okay, sorry, maybe I'm getting carried away here. I know it's all theoretically possible, but I never imagined someone could get Arena Diamond in a Technician game! I haven't played 0.9.9.5 much, though, so maybe there's some trick to it that I haven't discovered.
Have you really played 1240 games in this version already? That was fast! (Or did you copy that over from the previous version somehow? Can you do that? I've never tried)
Oh, and one more thing... Unless they changed it in this version, you can't two-weapon the Longinus Spear with a knife; they have to both be knives. (The Butcher's Cleaver counts as a knife in this case) You still get the bonus of the resistances, but you don't hit with both weapons.
EDIT: Another curious thing:

It doesn't say that you defeated the Arena Master! Is that a bug? I know that if you defeat him in the previous version in Nightmare, it reports it.

0.9.9.5 / [H|YAAM] My first 0.9.9.5 game

My first game of the new version; I figured I'd try for YAAM conqueror. :) I wasn't sure what to expect in the new version, so I decided to play it safe with a somewhat generic build with no master traits. I got Berserker trait way earlier than I needed; I didn't realize that UC is so much later in the game, now. :P
I accidentally blew up whatever skulls were dropped by the Agony Elemental in the City of Skulls, so I didn't have that assistance in the Mortuary, but fortunately, there was a berserk near the Mortuary entrance, so I was able to tear around with my Azrael's Scythe and cut down the Arch-Vile's numbers without too much difficulty. :)
I found a Dragonslayer and, just like every other time I've encountered it, I failed to pick it up. :( I had a theory about how to do it which turned out to be wrong, but now, I have a *new* theory for it to try out for next game. :)
The new AI kept me guessing about what strategy to use in some places, which is a good thing, although, there were a couple of occasions when I had to hunt for the last enemy on the map because they weren't where I expected them to be. :P
I was a little disappointed when the E1M1 music started again when I got to Deimos; I had hoped it would play the Episode 2 music, since I like the E2M1 song. The new The Wall song was nice, though. :)
I considered getting a full win, but I decided not to because I really wanted to see what the long-awaited Spider Mastermind was like! :) And some luckily placed invulnerabilities allowed me to get Cyberdemon's head and the Mastermind's brain! :D
The new Diamond badge requirements look really interesting too! :D I'll have to give them a good try at some point when I have time; I'm pretty busy these days and DoomRL is a bit of a low priority for me at the moment, but this is all pretty awesome! I commend everyone who worked to make this possible.
I accidentally blew up whatever skulls were dropped by the Agony Elemental in the City of Skulls, so I didn't have that assistance in the Mortuary, but fortunately, there was a berserk near the Mortuary entrance, so I was able to tear around with my Azrael's Scythe and cut down the Arch-Vile's numbers without too much difficulty. :)
I found a Dragonslayer and, just like every other time I've encountered it, I failed to pick it up. :( I had a theory about how to do it which turned out to be wrong, but now, I have a *new* theory for it to try out for next game. :)
