Well done on another solid-looking release!

Hurray! Great to see another version out. I was really stoked to see the announcement in my inbox this morning.

Sorry about not contributing in the beta testing, though!

Coffeechain - Don't recall the requirements

You can take repeated gulps of your coffee (or other decaffeinated beverage) without draining the cup!

I recall that there was a post on the roguelike development newsgroup a while back about someone announcing his intention to release an X-Com RL. There were plenty of replies saying that many people had the same idea. Sadly, nothing has come of it yet..

An idea that I saw being batted around a few months back was a game in which you build your guns from various parts. Imagine DoomRL's run-and-gun style gameplay, and that your 10mm pistol is made up of a short 10mm barrel, pistol caliber receiver, compact frame, small magazine, etc as opposed to just being a hardcoded 10mm pistol.

I'm sure that a list of parts with some actual thought put into it would sound more appealing..But nevertheless, I still like the idea

Goodness me, it's been a while since I was last here - Probably disqualifies me from taking up a forum helper position, but if you want me doing it again, I'm planning on being more involved here (especially given the upcoming release) anyway!

Knew it sounded familiar..Time to dig out the DOOM CE disk..From the room where everything in the house is being stored during renovations..

Yeah. This could take a while.

There actually is a level in DOOM that has that in. It's either in DOOM II or Ultimate DOOM..I can't remember.

The FH/BFG9000 thing sounds kind of reminiscent of Nethacks Gnome With a Wand of Death..

Voting yay. Besides, if it turns out to affect gameplay balance too much (Unlikely), you can always change it back.

Bug Reports / Re: Icon of doomrl.exe not correct on Vista

Why are you writing an installer/uninstaller for a game that you just unzip and play? It is trivial to add a shortcut to DoomRL in the windows start menu and uninstallation consists of selecting the folder and hitting shift + delete.

Right. But at the end of the day, does it really matter? It's not as if vista is even remotely cares about compatability.

Like I said, a simple fix would just be to extract the icon and stick it in the folder.

Or you know, stop obsessing over a bloody 16x16 pixel skull. Really.

Meh. Does it really matter? All that really needs to be done is just including the icon file with the next release of DoomRL so that people with vista that really even remotely care about it can decide to add the icon later.

DoomRL has an icon now?

IIRC it does not, and thats just the default icon for .exe files in Vista.

Requests For Features / Re: First person graphic mode

Didn't someone develop a first person IVAN fork? Also you are forgetting that there are many FP dungeon crawls..I remember Dungeons of the Unforgiven. Man, that was so long ago :P

Do you still have that sample tilesheet? That was a really nifty bit of artwork and I'd like to see it again..
