Discussion / Re: Poll : Favorite Advanced Traits
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:59 »
For me, there's a difference between most-picked and best.

I really have to second this, hard. I picked Whizkid, Dodgemaster and Juggler. It's not like I don't use Berserker, I play melee a lot, but I'm only going to pick it when I'm playing melee. Whizkid? Anyone can benefit from it as long as you're not terribly unlucky with mods, and even then there are some guaranteed. It's easy to slide it in there with whatever else. Dualgunner, not so much. Doesn't mean I think they're bad traits, they're just the most flexible for my builds. I don't ever use Intuition, but that's more down to not making builds with two levels of EE to unlock it.

But one from your inventory in 1.0secs isn't bad considering the normal reload time of chainguns. Or shotguns/rocket launchers for that matter.

If I'm using a combat shotgun and I don't have shottyman (not always efficient to move even if I do), I often draw a spare. If I'm under enough pressure that five shots didn't solve the problem, I sure don't want to be reloading individual shells when I can just whip out a fresh gun.

251 : 1

Yay.

BROFIST. Mine is also 251:1

I won't slur your skills by comparing them to mine, but considering the furthest I've gotten on HMP is level 9, I'm going to attribute mine to the fact that weak things spawn in big groups. One successful Ao100 run isn't going to sway things that much.

Seriously, how did anyone ever do this without Dodgemaster? That aside, this was perhaps the most fun I've ever had playing DoomRL.

Completed AoB on my first attempt. Cleaver + City of Skulls = lolxp.

And I'm never touching AoB again after such an easy ride.

AoMr is easier if you find the mods that you need to turn your advanced pistol into a pocket chaingun that has higher accuracy and more efficient ammo usage.

The first win I had was on AoMr, and I found the aforementioned metric shitload of mods. 3 mag size, 3 damage, 3 speed, 2 accuracy and 1 reload. You really can't go wrong after that. Also helped that I found the Beretta. A good pistol run can be comically efficient.

Or it can be a peashooter, YMMV.

I do love me my shorguns, but I had to dither a bit over pistols, and rocket launchers. Rokkits are too awkward to make regular runs with, but just sometimes, I like to go blow away everything.

Including myself and all the loot, eventually.

Unique mods might be a nice idea, actually.

incidentally, this regen idea might work better if you keyed the regen to something other than time passing. +1% per kill, or +1% per second for five seconds, starting after it is damaged by an attack.

Unrelated question, straight outta left field, but what level should I expect to see a thermie on? I just had five games in a row with only one thermie.

Pff. I've only ever seen three nukes in the entire time I've been playing.

.....aaaaaand does the same idea apply to reload times?

Man, now i have to do math to figure out if the second shot is worth the loss of speed. Make mods spawn in pairs and give us two advanced pistols >:(

..damn that would be broken, but awesome.

Works fairly well if you find the weapon speed and reload time mods. I was wrong about it working better on the lower settings: it works better on harder difficulties because the main problem is ammo and you don't get many rockets unless you bump it up a notch.

Other problems are starting combat the right distance away, and blowing up loot. It's a bucket of fun, but probably not the most efficient way to play. Would be nice if I found a unique to play with.

Requests For Features / Re: Inventory slot Trait
« on: January 04, 2009, 23:31 »
Yeah, I sometimes go for a generic defensive build, using shotguns since they work fairly well even if you don't go for the Shottyman/Hellrunner approach. (I often pick up Juggler, one double shotgun in each hand and no switch time = fun). If I do that I usually end up with four or five weapons, so the extra slots would be nice, but it could easily be too much. The inventory is supposed to be tight.

That said, I don't pick up EE if I do that since I don't really need it, so I still wouldn't use it. Would be rather nice for a rapidfire build, perhaps.

The other reason I find I need space is that I usually find weapon mods before I find an advanced weapon, so if I want to take the Wizkid approach, I end up lugging a bunch around for later. So glad that advanced RL is always guaranteed to show up around lvl 10.....

Discussion / Dualgunner
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:24 »
Question: how does Dualgunner work, exactly? Is the offhand weapon using it's own stats, or is it borrowing stuff like reload/firing speed from your primary?

I want to know how to use my mods to their best efficiency, y'see.
