Off Topic / Re: Where did everybody go?

... + NO NEW VERSION.
I can vaguely remember Kornel mentioning somewhere in his blog that the amount of donations last year only covered the cost of the website and that if he was to need new hardware (that, I assume, he currently borrows from his University) he wouldn’t be able to pay for it. Now I’ve been semi-awaiting some kind of fundraising event to happen over summer if it came to that... Is Kornel still alive and well, in terms of being able to continue work on his rogue-likes?

Think we could get a similar thing going here? No doubt everyone here'd probably be a lot better at it.
I would play but you’ll need to find a time where more then two people are actually online. As you can see this forum doesn’t have the most impressive posting rate. Other then that it could be a fun idea (if none of the moderators / administrators mind). Kinda reminds me of the cyanide and happiness interactive story stuff (not for the easily offended types).

This sort of strafing? -
Quote
Try to move not straight, but diagonally, this increases your chance to dodge. If you don't want to approach or retreat from the enemy, but also don't want to be hit often, try moving from side to side perpendicularly to the direction of enemy, as this gives you the same bonus as moving diagonally).
I remember that generally moving (i.e. not necessarily diagonally) used to increase dodge chance but I thought this was new when I read it... Meh, probably missed it the first time I read the manual. Well there is still the stuff about uniques in it, plus some other stuff (like the fact that normal weapons can be moded).

You should also know that tired doesn’t make you any worse off then cautious does; you just can’t run until you are back to cautious again.

If you haven’t played since two versions ago then you should probably check out the in-game manual via “Help” or “?” then “Getting Started”, or have a look at the online manual. Apart from the new tactics there have been a few new additions such as uniques and strafing that you might want to read up on.

He sure is :)
I tip my hat to him for making such good games for us and as well as being a generally nice internet guy.

sidenote: Nightmare is broken. its nearly unplayeble and not because it is sooo hard but its just ridiculose. like Morgue but on every single level. it could be bareble if for killing raised and spawned mobs xp would grow.
Off-topic goodness:

I think I remember Kornel saying this is as it should be. Ultra-Violence is for super-players to complete, Nightmare is for super-players to have “a good run”. i.e. Nightmare is only broken if anyone can finish it.

Not a bug. Sorry :(
You can walk diagonally by turning off the “Num Lock” and pressing “Pg Dn”, “Pg Up”, “Home” and “End”.

Heh.
The poor sod was hiding in a corner of some hut. Most monsters must have just not seen him or something. Must suck to be him, though:

Found a bug. Not sure if it’s being reported but here goes.
Apparently not only do citizens stop you from using your crossbow when nearby but you also can’t move on to the next day if there’re any of them left alive on the map. Just on whose side are they on anyway?

and it will make game a little easier.)
Is that a good thing though? The game seems to be getting easer since I started playing (0.9.8.7) and I think because of this I’m finding myself a less motivated to actually play the game. After all what good is permadeath if you can’t die.
I’m not saying that this will throw out all balance but it would be a good idea, in my opinion, to stay off any changes that make the game easer for a bit.
Plus, do we actually need the two extra slots? Is it going to make the game more fun?
Well, I’m a skeptic anyway.
votes: nay

From the wiki manual linked.

Watch this space carefully – it may notify you of impending danger or tell you that you're out of ammo (poor sob!).
SOB or sod (pretty please?)

By default your tactic is "cautious". This tactic gives no benefits, but either gives no disadvantages.
nor

First - there are listed your main parameters: movement, firing and reloading speed, and also your chance to hit with the weapon you are currently wearing (from point blank range).
currently have equipped (you do not wear a weapon)

Second good thing that you can find there are parameters of equipment that you are wearing:
have (you do not wear a weapon)

(yes, armor and boots can affect your movement speed and chance to be knocked back by powerful attacks)
redundant(?)

Each common weapon and armor can hold 1 mod (without traits), so choose wisely, which parameter you need to upgrade.
redundant(?)

By default advanced weapon have no bonuses against common
advantages over

There are 2 ways to see one of them: complete certain special level, in which unique item is a reward, or wait for level generator to spawn it on common level (but this happens pretty rare).
rarely
