Bug Reports / Rocket silver badge mislabeled in mortem
« on: August 05, 2019, 16:33 »
I finished Angel of Carnage, but the abbreviation from the Rocket Silver Badge was mislabeled as AoSh instead of AoC in the mortem file:
Code: [Select]
Rocket Silver Badge
* Complete Angel of Carnage (AoSh)

Bug Reports / Re: Level generation bug report
« on: August 02, 2019, 22:01 »
I think I found another one: CALISTO level 2, seed 3440
I used a computer terminal to reveal the map and open a vault, but the vault seems to be inaccessible. I wouldn't have known it was there if not for the revealed map data - I can see a wireframe display of the interior of the room, but none of the walls have a door in them.

Bug Reports / Level generation bug report

BEYOND level 2, seed 1859
A chest spawned in the middle of a lava pit with no walkable tiles adjacent to it. I assume this is a bug and there's not a secret switch somewhere to get it?

General Discussion / Re: Jupiter Hell - Status Update Oct 2015

Wow, your visuals are much more elaborate than I was expecting! Good to hear ya'll are still working on it. I was afraid the radio silence on the forums here meant that the project was dead.

Discussion / Re: Strongman Gold badge missing?
« on: December 09, 2014, 11:49 »Could it be that you got the platinum badge in a previous version and then copied your player files into the new version?
Ahh, that's probably it. Yes, I've been playing with the same player.wad file for a while now. Thanks.

Discussion / Strongman Gold badge missing?
« on: December 09, 2014, 10:46 »
I was reviewing my badges prior to another run and noticed that I've already earned Strongman Platinum but not Strongman Gold. Seems odd to me, since the requirements for gold are a subset of the requirements for Platinum?
Strongman Gold: Hard difficulty, only knives and fists
Strongman Platinum: Hard difficulty, only fists
Does anyone know how that might have happened?

Requests For Features / Re: Idea of implementing the limit of respawning of monsters
« on: September 02, 2014, 07:52 »I have a better idea, +5 HP and +10 speed on each respawn -- after 10 kills, you'll be in serious trouble even if it's a former. And with no extra gain for killing it.
Remind me not to upgrade to the next version, lol...

Post Mortem / Re: [UV|AoMC|100%|YAAM] - First UV Win with more Violence than Violets!
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:58 »Problem is, I can't even get to Hells armoury/Deimos Lab cause i keep dying on floors 3-7. Doing UV without intuition is a huge nerf. I really hate maze levels now. I never used to hate maze levels on HMP.
If you hate maze levels on UV then you'll really hate them on Nightmare. The lack of doors is maddening!
Also, I find that I make a lot more stupid decisions if I just finished a game with Int 2 :) For some reason my brain just forgets how to mitigate damage when it doesn't know where all the monsters are.

Discussion / Re: Main obstacles on Nightmare! difficulty
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:52 »If you have a pistol build, hopefully it's a Sharpshooter build and you have a pistol with knockback and an ammo chain.
Doesn't that require a fair amount of luck? Even with 95% kill rate on Nightmare I usually don't have enough XP to finish Sharpshooter before Phobos Lab. Granted, I usually only kill one wave in the arena before exiting. I prefer to not finish the arena so that the easier Court is available.

Nightmare! difficulty actually (sort of) helps you in this case because the acid does extra damage to them!
Really?! I've got 8 diamonds under my belt and never knew that! Is it documented somewhere?

Not sure if I should congratulate you or plan an intervention. Since you've already posted an Ao666 winner I lean towards the latter :)

DiabloRL / Re: Can Someone Pls walk me through gettin sound for DiabloRL?
« on: July 29, 2014, 10:58 »
A convenience trick which has worked well for me across multiple versions of Windows is to place a shortcut to Notepad inside the Send To menu. That way I can right-click any file, regardless of its file extension, and select Send To > Notepad.
The Send To folder can be found in your Windows 8 user profile in the following location:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
Alternatively you can just open Notepad manually and drag the file onto the application. That's an extra step, though, so if you edit things often then you'll save time using the shortcut method.
Obviously neither of these tricks is necessary if you've already instructed Windows to always open a particular file type with Notepad. But sometimes I want to edit a file without creating a permanent file association.

Off Topic / Re: Now playing... (games)
« on: July 11, 2014, 06:15 »Already did. T2 still suffers from the same glass canon syndrome that T1 did, and in fact it appears sooner. So no thanks, I'll pass.
There's a bunch of mods for T2 that totally rebalance the game and may improve your enjoyment of it; I've been playing Synergies most recently. That, at least, is a feature Diablo 3 cannot offer.

Discussion / Re: Nightmare demons, how to deal with them?
« on: June 26, 2014, 07:24 »
The most readily available method for dealing with nightmare demons is the double shotgun. If you don't have shottyman or reloader traits then you'll also need a shell box. These items are usually found (more than 50%? maybe?) by the time you reach the Phobos lab. The double shotgun provides plenty of knockback, especially at close range, to keep the demons off you while you kill them.
Another tactic is to use an env suit and lure them out into the acid pool. It can be difficult to get all of them to follow you at once, though.

Congratulations! For me, also, DoomRL also has the distinction of being one of the few roguelikes that can cause me to sweat :)

Nightmare! / Re: [N!|97%|YAFW] Promotion!
« on: April 22, 2014, 19:14 »What about your skill choices, though? Was there a masterplan, and if so, was it adhered to? The progression seems a bit random...
I focused on SoB + EE early on so that the chaingun consistently one-shots formers at long range. Rapid fire weapons were my bread and butter for most of the game. I also consider EE to be fairly high priority so that rockets can be used to keep big nasties (e.g. Bruiser Brothers) at bay; missing with a rocket is usually very bad news as I often rely on them in situations which are risky to begin with.
Juggler was my second priority because 1) extra firing speed from Finesse reduces the risk of enemies getting double moves on me and 2) Instant switch to rocket launcher allows me to rocket jump instantly and potentially avoid sudden death. I generally keep a rocket launcher even after I get a missile launcher for that very reason. Also I'm just kindof addicted to Juggler :)
Int2 is extremely nice in Nightmare! as it often alerts you to monsters spawning behind you, and it gives you advanced warning of their approach so that you can more easily position yourself for killing them in doors/water/near barrels/etc... I don't go for Int2 right off the bat because the early levels are easy enough that I don't need it.
After that it was basically just filling out SoB 3 (didn't want to go higher due to knockback from modded plasma gun), adding a level of HR to better dodge Cybie rockets, and then Cateye because it doesn't conflict with any of the traits I've taken so far. Whizkid was a bit of a waste here due to lousy mod drops, but it wasn't totally useless...
