Nightmare! / Re: [N!|93%|YAVP] Elite diamond
« on: August 24, 2012, 06:31 »
I dunno, I've rarely done Arena on N! and I'm slowly becoming convinced that it would help me a lot if I did.

There are a couple challenges where it isn't that helpful but that's about it.

The lost souls are T blocks, where their jaw is the lower part. It's extremely confusing. Revenants are the S/Z blocks but they're kinda hard to comprehend too.

I don't really get why the doors are locked at all (yes, the sergeants could open them if they weren't). Isn't this like, the only level that has these? They've always felt kinda redundant for that reason.

Whenever I still play I play N! since there's not really much that's fun to achieve on UV anymore (AoHu, Ao100 (can't bother), AoP.)

I'd check out the corridor on the right in hopes of something useful.

At the beginning of the game turns are added equal to moving one tile, with possible speed bonuses (AoLT, scout, HR) applied (though for some reason 1.0s = 9 turns). I assume you took finesse, because otherwise it would be around 60.

The only enemy that shoots you if they can't explicitly see you is the cyberdemon. That said there are a few specific cases atm where enemies can see you and you can't them but that mostly happens in one tile corridors with doors all over the place.

tanking its melee attacks in my phaseshift.

I'm at a loss for words here. You had phaseshift armor with an A-mod, tactical boots with an A-mod, and HR3. This should be more than enough speed to run circles around the mastermind, let alone the pillars. You could've got the brain easily.

Do you know what the nuclear rifle's alt-fire does? It's pretty cool. Learning to not rely on it is probably a good thing though.

Yeah, nice run nonetheless. I really need to get my DoomRL back on already, at this rate you'll pass me soon!

I fought against a shielded armor hell knight once in AoMr. Fun times.

Well first of all AoLT + Scout = around 30% speed bonus which is a lot, plus you have a shell box at the start. (and I got another one)

My plan was to kill only weaker enemies in Phobos and go a tiny bit out of my way occasionally to get some extra XP. This time I had more enemies on the optimal routes. Then when I got berserker and had a few berserk packs I was going pretty fast and killed a lot of stuff. Then I got phaseshift boots and an agility mod. Then hell was pretty forgiving with level layouts.

As I said, I got very lucky this time which is why the turncount is so low. Being on schedule for <20k isn't nearly as hard as it sounds though. Don't do overly stupid decisions to save time and build a melee character.

Nothing hard here, got this badge to achieve General rank. This try I got waaay too lucky.

327 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 284 of those were killed.
2 of those were killed by something unknown.
10 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 3 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 26 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
4 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
18 killed the bitch and survived.
4 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

To clarify, anything that destroys walls can get you in the side vaults, but you need to phase to the central one.

AM staff opens all of them when used in the vaults.

Yeah IMO the forced front start made the level worse (weren't there supposed to be new layouts quite some time ago? what happened to those?).

It wouldn't be so bad if shrapnel wouldn't go around trees. Except when you're dead opposite to the sergeant. Which will most of the time not happen diagonally.

And you could just reload them individually anyway since DG permits instant swapping for pistols.

The barons wandering in themselves before I've killed at the very least the other two is really rare from my experience. When I have Intuition it's pretty much impossible for me to not clear CC+
