Maybe the wiki is outdated, then.

18
First: the movespeed is not reduced, but improved- read 0.8 as 0.8 of normal move speed

Ah, this makes much more sense.

Another thing to note: The wiki right now says that Berserk reduces incoming damage by 4x. This means that if you have red armor (or blue armor + TaN 2), then an enemy would have to do 24 damage (approximately the maximum damage of a Revenant rocket) to you just to make you take 2hp of damage. Being Frenzied in this new system, you would take 6hp of damage. So this actually nerfs berserk armor by quite a bit.

Perhaps:
Angered - incoming damage / 2
Enraged - damage / 3
Furious - damage / 4
Frenzied - same as furious
BERSERK! -  all damage is reduced to 1

19
Why exactly are there penalties for going over level 5? It's just punishing you for killing too much, and I don't see the point there. The concept of moderation in bloodshed is very un-DOOM-like.

Also, I think reduced movement speed would frustrate me because when I'm berserked, I'm always running to the nearest enemies as quickly as possible. The way this is, the effect would just wear off by the time I actually find something to kill.

I haven't played on the harder difficulties, but I haven't seen any problems with the chainsaw's attack damage with Brute 2 and Berserk.

1. Go to DoomRL.ini, set AllowHighAscii to FALSE

If this doesn't work, then you'll have to change your console font. Here's a guide:

Before him 12 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 8 of those were killed.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 4 souls claim to have killed him...
4 killed the bastard and survived.

Some times you just aren't really paying attention. I thought I'd survive one more turn on 22% health, but I couldn't.

What I'm interested in knowing, though, is how exactly you're supposed to deal with Arachno caves on Shotgunnery or Berserk. Do you just burn through large medpacks or use a homing phase device?

Also, I uploaded the playthrough to Youtube:

(or you can skip to the last part to watch me die stupidly)

Bug Reports / Re: No sound/music in .9.9 Linux version
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:02 »
Simply installing timidity worked for me, although the midi samples sound very different which can get annoying at times (there's one song that likes to play an irritating high-pitched note for about 20 seconds straight). What would I need to have it play the midi music with the same samples, or is there a way to play it in mp3?

Also, I noticed that midi playback makes the game use up half of my (admittedly not robust) atom cpu cycles, whereas it wasn't using up much at all before I installed timidity.

How about VR training, like in Metal Gear Solid?

You put the player in hand-created small scenarios, and task him with objectives (kill all monsters, reach the exit, survive X turns, etc) while also giving tips on tactics. It can range from basic advice for new players to super-hard mini challenges for advanced players.

0.9.9 / Re: [E|YASD] Maze of Torment
« on: January 13, 2010, 08:26 »
Some things:
1. You've got a huge amount of plasma cells hoarded up, but no plasma gun, and it seems like you never used your BFGs. That situation would have been a very good time to use them.

2. For a melee build, I'd say you're carrying a little too much ammo around. You need space for health kits and phase devices. Phase devices are more useful than health kits when you're surrounded by big bads (unless you get unlucky).

3. If you're running out of health kits on easy mode, then you're either not picking them up, or you're taking too much damage unnecessarily. You can't beat the game in a melee focus without excessive use of running and cowardice tactics. It might not seem like it, but there's a lot of ways to avoid getting shot. When it comes to shotgun guys, though, you shouldn't bother running towards them, they'll just blow you away.
