Not really, shotguns STILL lose damage with range. 5-6 squares out and often monsters take no damage at all.

How about starting at clvl1 with 25 traits and advancing in experience normally? This idea sounds like a coding nightmare in the first place. Plain ol' levels have more benefits than just traits, don't they?

While I'm in this thread, I have come up with a new twist on the Angel of Suck(blood) challenge. Wanna hear it? Here it go.

Angel of Sadism(that's how i thought of it, from the title. we have masochism, so.)

Pro: You gain health for inflicting pain, injury, and anguish.
Cons: So do the monsters. Health items don't work, either.

I listen to DoomRL MIDIS when i play DoomRL. i am not about to list my tastes in music for some soulless mass-marketing bot to derive market research data from, but if i HAD to pick a playlist for DoomRL, it would consist almost entirely of industrial music. So there.

Angel of Impatience: Straight melee build. The ability to dominate souls with your fists AND the abilty to shoot them lots?=WIN. It's AoB, only WAY easier. I hope I haven't irritated people by posting so plainly :P

The numbers are only part of it. I'd honestly say not quite half. Knowing HOW to strafe is the greater part.

Well, how do you strafe? or, how do YOU strafe? I haven't seen anything about this in the rest of the forums and it only gets mentioned once or twice. Is it something to do with diagonals?

Just find a dance partner one of these times when you can afford to dink around and take a few bullets. play cat and mouse with him for a while.

Running in place or in circles is inefficient management of time, which would be bad enough even if it weren't a habit that will get you killed on N!
I won't even get into my prejudices concerning the practice in other RLs...

This is also a very conscious design decision -- as with HP regeneration this was thrown out to avoid any lulls in time passage -- DoomRL is supposed to be dynamic, there shouldn't be any moment where the player walks in circles or waits for some kind of regeneration.

And very well implemented.
