I just finished AoMr on HNTR, my second ever win, but getting to level 15 on AoB is harder...Should i just run past the levels or something? And is there a build for running past everything? HRx3, TAN?

EDIT:I've just gotten to level 17 AoB, HNTR
HR->HR->HR->TAN->TAN

but i would still like to know a running past stuff build, for things like AoRA

Hmm, so...If a bullet would hit you, but you move in a direction not of it's fire path, ie. diagonal, then that's strafing?

Strafing is mentioned briefly in the manual under "Getting Started". It's simply moving in a way that would theoretically dodge the shot if you were playing in realtime.
eg.
Code: [Select]
..........
h****.@...
.....**@*X

Moving from the lower @ to the higher @ gives you a strafe bonus to dodging.
The bonus is pretty big, especially when dodging "magical" projectiles like fireballs or acid-balls.

Hmm, thanks, but another question, how do you use this "strafing" effectively? It's not like you can see the fire path of so many enemies and even so, wouldn't they be firing a different path each time? Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The numbers are only part of it. I'd honestly say not quite half. Knowing HOW to strafe is the greater part.

Well, how do you strafe? or, how do YOU strafe? I haven't seen anything about this in the rest of the forums and it only gets mentioned once or twice. Is it something to do with diagonals?

Sometimes knockback is all that will save you, it's like a square or three of running like hell for free, if you don't count the cost of the barrel/plasma glob exploding in your face.

True, the knockback reduction is something i overlooked. a curse and a blessing. Because, if you are a shotgun player, then you don't really want knockback, you want to be in their face. But at level 10, you could have this full defense character with something like

TAN->TAN->Bad->Bad->Bad->Iro->Iro->Iro->TAN->HR

or something like that. At 200% and 3 ironman, you have 160 hp.

What's your rank, Toan? Still bucking for Lieutenant?

I'm a Lieutenant Demon "bucking" for Captain.

To achieve Captain Rank:
-complete the Angel of Impatience challenge
-complete the Angel of Light Travel Challenge
-reach L15 in the Angel of Berserk challenge

I've so far done none of them, but i'm sure i can get to level 15 in AoB with some perseverance. And i'm a shotgun fan.

I've been using badass and liking it quite a bit, and while it's not something that shows up immediately, like SoB or HR, it means you can survive longer, with a bigger pad of life. Which means you can have a game where you have lots of life and armor and can just tank everything (or almost everything). But why don't people do this more often? or am i just getting the wrong impression, that people use badass all the time?

I do love me my shorguns, but I had to dither a bit over pistols, and rocket launchers. Rokkits are too awkward to make regular runs with, but just sometimes, I like to go blow away everything.

Including myself and all the loot, eventually.

Maybe i haven't played enough AoMr to understand why people like pistols so much.

There, added rockets. I hardly ever use them, and when i do, it's usually for blowing up obstacles or when i know i can tank the blast and my enemies can't. Plasmas.... well, i guess they're an upgrade to the chaingun even if they use more valuable ammo.

totally off topic, but i didn't want to start a new post:

I've been trying to win AoLT for some time now, and what bugs me, is that if i go HMP, i can get the chaingun before hell's arena, but it's quite hard and the furthest i've gotten is lvl 10. If i go HNTR, i have to brave Hell's Arena, and i hate those cacodemons. Shotgun isn't much of an option, because shottyman + double shotty burns the shells real quick and i'm not sure how many power cells to keep and rockets.

Pure, concentrated damage dealing power.
Shotguns have to deal with barrels. Chainguns tend to not. Also, a chaingun, with EE2 and SoB does pretty awesome damage.

I am sorry for posting with such a closed mind, i just tried a game focused around chainguns, and they aren't too bad, but because i'm used to shooting in the dark a lot, i run out of ammo quite quickly, something a shotgun would be more efficient in. Oh, well, can't have them all.

Also, is this a small forum or what? Only 15 people have voted so far, and this has been up for more than a week!

wow, massive poll....but where are the results?

and it looks like people like chainguns a lot. I've never understood how you can use a chaingun when a shotgun, which disregards accuracy is available. Oh, well....

Ganbate! (Keep Going!)

if you're gonna take berserker, you'd be better off with a defensive trait (HR,TAN,Ironman, anyone?) but that might be just me. Running through levels is good if you think or know (computer maps) that there isn't enough healing to get what you need (knives, med-kits, uniques).

Thanks guys! i finally got my first win on ITYTD! Currently i'm playing a bit of AoLT and wondering how in the world you can win without those extra 10 slots. I'm thinking pistol-->shotgun-->chaingun-->plasma/BFG. not sure about traits though. Maybe EE --> CE or something

EDIT: Whizkid is pretty useful.....12 mods on an Advanced Pistol in AoMr is just plain butt-kicky
