-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 41 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 40 of those were killed.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
1 killed the bastard and survived.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Trait order: 1 brute because otherwise you tend to die a lot  before getting a knife, 3 tough as nails, 1 more brute to keep up with the enemies getting tougher, and then ironman for more resilence.

Past the very beginning this went quite stably. I had at least some large medkits in my inventory for most of the game, which served both the purposes of healing and of giving me a berserker rage against tough opponets. (like arch-viles). The cathedral was quite easy thanks to the medkits, and after that everything else was a cakewalk. Including the Cyberdemon. That's the armor I wore when I entered the arena that you see on me in the mortem, and I never even used a medkit in this battle.

Kornel took it out brcause it was boring and ruined the pacing of the game, and I agree.

Requests For Features / Change 'Plasma Rifle' to 'Plasma Pistol'
« on: December 31, 2005, 11:31 »
In reply to the post about putting the pistol between combat shotgun and chaingun:
But what would then be the point of the pistol, save for pistol challenge games? You get the chaingun by level 3, if you do Hell's Arena (which you should), and the first power cells become available level 10+, save for the few in the Arena. If you make cells appear earlier, you'll be able to accumulate a lot by the time you get the plasma rifle, and the BFG, and ammo scarcity is the main balancer of those weapons. If you don't, such a pistol would be useless by the time you got the plasma rifle. I think the pistol should a bit more poerful then the rocket launcher agaist a single enemy, but weaker against multiple.

I always check out the grayed out part of the map for stairs before exiting a level, since nothing obscures them there.

Perhas allow you to mod a single weapon with a mod of your choice instead of getting a trait when leveling up?

One I can think of would be using it when under the effect of an invulnerability globe, although I've never tried it.

Hey, I once got in the rocket chamber this way, and killed them from behind with the advanced rocket launcher. :)

Requests For Features / Demo recording
« on: November 06, 2005, 01:23 »
I think the best way would be for it to record every level, and delete itself when you quit the level. Then have a button that saves the current level demo to an external file for posterity, if the player does something demo-worthy. Because, if you have to turn them on manually, you'll often miss really cool moments simply because you didn't expect them. Of cource, even a single level demo could get quite big if abused by the player,  but this still would be more reasonable.

Pre-0.9.9 / And YAVP
« on: November 06, 2005, 00:16 »
Well, the supercharge did save my life, but then again I got a bit overconfident because of it and rushed in quite carelesly, so I think I could have done without it, but it certainly was nice. :)

The Wall's not that hard.  I do it just with the rocket launcher, opening a hole near the bottom, and then scouting out with cateye 2, and shooting any demons that come near When they start swarming, it's important to shoot the rocket to a place that will cause the rocket to explode so that the knockback sents them all away from you. Admittedly I did have a full red armor and Tough as nails 2, but I did lose only 2% (1 hp) health, and that was from my own rocket.

Pre-0.9.9 / I beat it
« on: November 06, 2005, 00:06 »
A special level, where you fight lots of Lost Souls. (and I mean lots) And they come at you from all directions when you pull a lever. As a side-note, you can kill some of the souls by rocketing the houses first, although you might destroy some of the loot this way. (still, the 2 items I found weren't destroyed, and were extremely well worth the trip)

Before him 32 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 27 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
And 4 couldn't handle the stress and commited a stupid suicide.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Yay, my first victory! It was atually a pretty uneventful ride, save for maybe an exceptionally good clearing of the wall, losing but 1 hp. Also, I incidentally got a 100% kill rate too, I'm just pretty picky about clearing all the levels. However, I didn't really kill all of them, since I skipped stairs to the Spider's Lair on level 18. (had little power packs left and this sounds scary. I wanted to finally complete this, and leave exploring special levels for later.) Was a bit disappointed by the Cyberdemon. All he took were 3 BFG shots, 2 plasma rifle clips and 1 large medpack. Then again, I did kill him with my last plasma shots, save for those left in the BFG, and I did get a supercharge next to the down-stairs on level 19.

Now onto the next version with difficulties and Deimos! :) And maybe the Spider's Lair.

Given WHAT away??

Read the forum.  A couple of recent posts taken together give a lot of hints about this. (enough that I guessed it, apparently, if I am thinking about what he was talking about) Although I don't think it's that much of a deep strategic aspect, as just a cool feature. They're both plentiful enough for this purpose anyway.

Discussion / One 'hell' of a party
« on: November 02, 2005, 19:23 »
Well, I did use the levers for level-scumming a couple of times but got bored of that. It's best somewhere around level 3-5 with the chaingun. The worst monster spanwed is a chaingun former human, so you can usually (95%+ of the time) kill them all before they even become active. And with those former humans spawning, you won't ever run out of ammo too. If you've still got a health globe or two on the level, you can survive for a loooooong time. The most I ever did was getting to about 6/25% on level 5, and I had a supercharge globe nearby.  But this gets boring really quick, and levels aren't that important in doomRL anyway, so I stopped. But if someone had the patiencce, they could probably develop pretty much a walking tank in early levels. Plus you get a lot of points for this too, so it's a win win.

How come? I really like doing that. Won't you be able to aim manually anymore?

Requests For Features / Proposed Feature - Challenge Modes
« on: October 31, 2005, 15:24 »
By the Angel of Bad aim or High sensitivity,  I meant that you can only move the green crossair no more than five squares (currently 9) away from you, so you have to approximate the shot trajectory for monsters furher away from you, like you have to do now with monsters in cateye range. But come to think of it, it's probably a bad idea anyway.

And, yes, the Angel of Bloodthirst probably ought to be tweaked a bit, say to 1hp per 10 turns without destroyed demonspawn. That's already 600 deathless turns for a healthy level 1 ironman, and when did you last spend more that about 100-200 turns without killing anything in DoonmRL. :)
