That's how we learned the Apostle's true appearance... in text mode.  Graphics mode is still up in the air; maybe it's just a plain ol' yellow archvile like the regular kind, but dammit I wanna see for myself.

I guess while I'm here, I'm also gonna ask: You guys do all know that it's actually called a soulsphere, right?  Not a supercharge?

Eh, it's just my archaic mindset of "exotic means better".  Like I know a PPPBB combat pistol is better than an energy combat pistol P, but I'll probably still make the latter over the former anyway.

That said, which is better: a nanomachic laser rifle F, or a burst nuclear plasma rifle P?

I don't think it's possible at all.  For a hypothetical next version, I'd like to suggest the option for colored borders to indicate berserk/enviro/invul/etc. effects so the field can still be seen in normal colors.

That is a nice find given its rarity.  I recently finished my third ArchAo666 run, and it's my first one that was sans Dragonslayer.  The Berserker Armor showed up early, but the Dragonslayer never did (and neither did any nano mod pack after I made a nano super shotgun and nanomachic laser rifle, so I never got to make any antigrav phaseshift boots for the rest of the run).  I had hoped to screenshot the Apostle without the red filter in graphics mode, but it seems that'll have to wait until I feel like doing another 666 run.

I probably won't post the run, it's just a M Technician Scavenger run like my first two.  After floor 200, it was just a slog as this kind of run tends to be; and the total lack of nano mod packs (not even any guaranteed scavenges from uniques) really annoyed me all the way to the end.  I hope I'll have better luck next time, especially since I'm now one Dragonslayer away from Armorer Diamond.

I've been toying around with custom sounds in DoomRL.  I got Ironbeer's sound overhaul mod, then did a few sound replacements which was mostly changing some gun sounds to their PSX Doom 64 sounds as well as have JC make Icon Of Sin sounds (I mean he is the final evil).  I asked this last year regarding giving sounds to the completely silent nightmare monsters and was told that it would be considered cheating.  Regardless, I recently found another sound mod that actually gives them sounds (don't worry, I haven't used it yet and Ironbeer's mod still leaves the nightmares silent) so any opinions on that?

I also have to ask since I don't have the source code.  What are the internal names of the Arena Master, agony elemental, and Apostle for the purposes of giving them custom sounds?  Of course with the Arena Master and agony elemental, they're silent like the nightmares so it might be cheating again.  But I remember the Apostle just making normal arch-vile sounds, so surely I can change those without being called a cheater.

And finally, I have to mention a couple of sound oddities that might be bugs.  The revenant actually has his unique firing sounds, but he doesn't actually use them and just uses the rocket launcher default sounds.  Also, JC doesn't actually use his idle sound; but maybe that one's for the best because I set it to the Icon's backwards speech, and hearing that all the time would probably get old fast.

Modding / Re: Regarding custom sounds for elite formers

I asked a sort of similar question last year, and this was the answer:
https://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,3999.msg68001.html#msg68001

Note that nightmare monsters (and also the arena master and agony elemental) making no sounds whatsoever may be intentional so giving them sounds might be considered cheating.  The elite formers are fair game, though.

I inadvertently let the Backpack get blown up.

You wouldn't have been able to use it anyway, Angel of Purity deems it impure.

Yeah, a break would be a good idea.  You could play some other games in the meantime.

Like actual Doom ;)

would I still have got Gutt's Heart for nuking spidey?

My gut (heh) feeling says no.  Then again, the medal for killing Spidey with the GCB just requires the GCB to be the killing blow; despite that, I still got it by using only the GCB anyway just to be sure.

Of course formers and barons can't wear the Berserker Armor, they don't and can't ever have the Dragonslayer :P

I actually haven't tried it since the time I asked about it (still gotta find those PSX sounds, and is it true that the archvile also had such sounds despite not appearing in PSX Doom?), but is it actually considered cheating to give sounds to silent monsters like the nightmare monsters and Arena Master?

I'm of the opinion that Pacifist Angelic is nigh impossible.  Across the 24 or so floors you have to cross, eventually something will die with the cause being enemy crossfire, a pinky running across acid, a former human's starting position being on lava, or whatever else.

I'm not sure what would cause a melee weapon to spawn in those bonus levels. Most of every other weapon is itemtype_ranged except the melee weapons of course. Did you perhaps get one on an older version?

Nah, it's been the current version for a few years now and I only started playing this game this year.

Bonus levels that have randomly spawned weapons (Hell's Armory, Deimos Lab, Vaults) always spawn ranged weapons, so no melee ones.

Uniques if they spawn are an exception, as I've gotten unique melee weapons like the Mjollnir from those levels before.

When generating items in a level, the full list of uncollected uniques is added into total weight, which I believe would imply that as you continue to gain uniques, the chances of getting a certain other one improves. In other words for example, finding a Dragonslayer is easier if you've already collected several other uniques.

With the above two in mind, it's very useful to collect all uniques, even if you don't intend to use them so that you can remove their weight values from the item generation list. On top, if you're seeking a Dragonslayer, or other unique melee weapon, it's recommended to enter all these bonus levels to try and force out some of the ranged uniques. Lava Pits and Mt Erebus are good too to try and spawn unique armors and boots.

I had a feeling it worked that way, though I pick them up anyway for logging purposes even if I don't intend to use them.

Deimos Lab's special mod packs are a pairing of Firestorm, Nano, and Sniper. If I'm understanding it correctly, you can't get Onyx from this level.

Strange, I've gotten onyxes from Deimos Lab before.
