Looks great. I'll have to give it a spin later!

I was toying with the idea of setting up a DoomRL dgamelaunch server, similar to the existing Nethack and Crawl servers, but yes, the sound issue is something way beyond my capability of solving. It's a shame, because it would make an awesome dgamelaunch type game.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. That NotEye program is actually pretty interesting, although it's a bit of a pain to set up properly, and is a bit slow even on my relatively high end computer.

I tried changing the font in a regular console window, but it seems like DoomRL doesn't really like anything except the default font, because things end up looking wacky, especially the floor (circle) tiles.

I'm going to keep playing around with stuff, I'm not really sure what the best solution is yet.

Discussion / Any update on Windows 7/Vista compatibility?
« on: August 22, 2010, 21:33 »
Many moons ago I posted a thread here talking about how it's not possible to play in fullscreen mode with Windows 7 unless you do some trickery involving force installing XP drivers, which really isn't a great solution.

Has there been any new methods of getting full screen yet? I tried playing in "XP Mode" but it wouldn't go into fullscreen, either. Presumably because you can't use anything but the generic video drivers.

I remember talk about an SDL version that would fix these issues. I guess that didn't turn out? :P

It's a shame, because I bought a 24 inch widescreen monitor and DoomRL isn't playable anymore since the play window is such a small box in the middle of the massive screen. I need to break out a magnifying glass to play it.

The solution is a "semi-graphical" version of DoomRL where the screen is rendered via SDL, but still using plain ASCII. I hope to release that version with 0.9.9.1.
Wow, awesome. Thanks a lot, I'm sure there are a lot of us out in Vista/Windows 7 land who will appreciate this. =D

Yeah, it's an issue with Windows itself.

Anyway, if you set the .exe to load in 640x480 it will automatically switch your desktop to that resolution and back to normal when you close the game. Not perfect and kind of annoying, but it's 'almost' full screen that way.

...and virtual XP mode didn't work either. It just spits out an error about not being able to initialize full screen mode. Meh.

I'm downloading the virtual Windows XP mode thing for Windows 7 and I'm hoping it'll work with it. I can't stand playing DoomRL in a tiny window; it's so much more atmospheric in full screen (to me, anyway) and it just looks better. I have no idea why it won't go into full screen normally though.

I was going to post this in the bug forum, but then I thought, well, this probably isn't a bug with DoomRL itself.

Anyway, does anyone else here play under Windows 7? I recently started using it, and saw the new release of DoomRL and wanted to play again. Only problem is, I can't seem to get it to go into full screen; alt+enter does nothing, and trying to maximize under the window options just makes the small window go to the top left.

Has anyone had any luck with this? Thanks!

Can't wait to play this new update. :D

Bug Reports / Re: Freeze with music skipping, unrecoverable...
« on: January 01, 2009, 15:17 »
It is actually a "trainwreck" sort of bug, because it ruins my game when it happens: the game totally locks up and I have to ctrl+alt+delete, which loses my character/game. I can't tell exactly what the problem is either, I'm not sure if it's the audio that messes up or if the game is just freezing which makes the audio sample keep playing, because there's no error message or anything. It only happens right as I enter a new level, though.

I actually had this same problem a few years ago when I first tried DoomRL which made me give up, heh. =\

Searching through the forum here I saw one or two other people that had the same issue over the last few years, so I suppose it's not exactly a common bug. I could try without music, but to be honest, having the DOOM music makes it about 100x more fun, heh.

Well, it happened again in almost the same spot. I give up.

Bug Reports / Freeze with music skipping, unrecoverable...
« on: December 31, 2008, 18:54 »
So, I was down to Phobos Hell 3, and as soon as I went down the stairs it loaded the next level, but the music was skipping and playing the same 1/4 second of audio over and over and everything else was locked up. The cursor under the @ was still blinking, but no buttons would do anything. I had to just close the game manually and my character was lost.

Anyone ever experience this? I'm using the mp3 pack as well, btw.
