Post by: Baphomet on March 20, 2008, 12:14
As you can see in the attached screenshot the icon of doomrl.exe (0.9.8.9) is not correct.

DoomRL has an icon now?

IIRC it does not, and thats just the default icon for .exe files in Vista.

The following screenshot was taken on Windows XP - there is an icon.

Meh. Does it really matter? All that really needs to be done is just including the icon file with the next release of DoomRL so that people with vista that really even remotely care about it can decide to add the icon later.

You see the right icon of many other .exe files on Vista (Firefox, WinRAR, Total Commander...), but not the one of DoomRL.
So, in my opinion the packaging or the way the icon is included in the release .exe of DoomRL is not working as expected on Vista.

Right. But at the end of the day, does it really matter? It's not as if vista is even remotely cares about compatability.

Like I said, a simple fix would just be to extract the icon and stick it in the folder.

Or you know, stop obsessing over a bloody 16x16 pixel skull. Really.

Currently I'm writing a setup and to show the correct icon in the Windows start menu, Desktop, Uninstall in the Control Centre...
I need a "working" icon in the .exe

No, I'm just working in the quality assurance of a software company for nearly ten years now.

Why are you writing an installer/uninstaller for a game that you just unzip and play? It is trivial to add a shortcut to DoomRL in the windows start menu and uninstallation consists of selecting the folder and hitting shift + delete.

Really.

1. I know enough users that don't even know what "zip" is and how to handle it
2. Whats wrong in studying things that I'm interested in?
3. What I do in my spare time should be my affair

I've mentioned what I've noticed on Vista, thats all.

The icon doesn't matter, because it doesn't get applied to the .bat file, which is what you're supposed to use.

Of course, the real question here is why hasn't it been fixed so you can run the .exe? >_>

I wouldn't mind an icon in high res in png format, or even better - in svg :-D so I can link it in KDE ;-D

You're supposed to run a .bat? I never did.
