I think I've only found UC on dlvl16, so I think you missed it.

Imho Berserk is a very usefull perk for every melee game, even for AoB, where you can use medpacks as Berserk. It is more usefull than any other trait you can pick here.
IMO Berserker is useless in AoB games. You get Berserk effect from large meds (on demand) and from large health globes too. Brute(2) + chainsaw already let's you one-hit demons, imps, humans etc. so the 4% berserk chance is not likely to trigger anyway. Better take some defensive skills to make life easier around AVs. And once you get the LS it's gg anyway.
Even on non-AoB games I'd only take Berserker(1). I killed the AoD with that and when I faced Cybie with Berserker (2) I killed him without triggering Berserk.....
As I had said, I used my last medkit on AoD (who dealt me some damage before I took him out), and then "found Hellish Caves", with enough Arachnotrons to make even maxdmg=1 a danger. Barserk triggered, and very likely saved me there. It also triggered in at least one battle including an AV, so I didn't have to waste what could have been my last medkit for Cybie. I had Hellrunner(2) for the defensive anyway, and would have filled it if not for the lowish killcount.
Also, don't Berserk triggeres stack for more time (and I think I've heard effect, too)? If so, with Berserk(2-3) on H-UV, you could probably keep a spree going almost the entire game.

I kept a shotgun and shells around as a lure, but ended up not using them much after a couple of dlvls.
And here I thought I was the only one who does that.
:P
It works so well, I was surprised not to find it in the Wiki.

Is he immortal? 7 souls claim to have killed him...
1 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
5 killed the bastard and survived.
1 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Traits were Brute->Hellrunner->Brute->Berserker->Eagle Eye*->Hellrunner*->Berserker*

*or something like that

I kept a shotgun and shells around as a lure, but ended up not using them much after a couple of dlvls.
The Chained Court was a pleasure, of course.
I faced The Wall to avoid massive acid damage between me and the other stairs.
I found a Supercharge near UC (which I entered quickly to avoid YASD), and discovered that medkits don't berserk you when you're above full health (is this a bug...?), but managed AoD with my other one.
LS made surviving the following Arachnotrons with lowish HP a weee bit easier :P
Found stuff, killed shit, reached Cybie and kicked his ass. And like many here've said, after AoD he's a joke.

Questions: is LS's protection always in effect?
Does it stack with body armor?
Is there a total armor limit?

Savescumming - baaad...

But as a token of good faith :P :
First, throw in a few ranks of Hellrunner - you'll be on the move enough to make it VERY worthwhile. I've just beaten AoB and am about to post my mortem. My trait-list'll be there.
Second, why didn't you do the Unholy Cathedral? DO IT AT ALL COSTS! Then, look for a /. You'll figure it out ;)
Third, do you use your Tactics options?

Also, if you haven't, check out what some of our melee-masters did on the Malicious Knives forum challenge. The thread should be in Disscusion. I'll note I reached lvl4 :P

DiabloRL / Re: Suggestion for difficulty levels and game restart

Frostmourn this time? :P

I thought more along the lines of a free AoLS whenever you move up to a higher difficulty :p

Hehehe :P

Frostmourn this time? :P

I'm a little afraid that it will prove a bad thing, going through the ENTIRE game just to get to more challanging grounds, and then go YASD and do it ALL over again, when the most serious strain is the numbing ease of Normal.

DiabloRL / Suggestion for difficulty levels and game restart
« on: December 24, 2006, 13:55 »
You all probably know how in Diablo, game-restart w/developed char and difficulty levels make for very high playability and char development, but I've thought about it, and it might hamper scoring and ranking, which we all seem to enjoy very much in DoomRL.

So, I've thought up a system which should be able to implement both sides, and possibly more (that is, whenever difficulty levels will even be used here :) ):

  • there are the normal Diablo difficulties: Normal, Nightmare and Hell
  • unless monster spawning will be implemented (is this even being considered?), games can be restarted like in Diablo

Each new character is then restricted as so:
  • you can start on any of the difficulty levels
  • you can go to higher diff.lvls with little restriction (maybe some requirements like with DoomRL), restarting the game world as usual
  • you cannot, however, go back to easier diff.lvls with that char
  • like in Diablo, by limiting XP gain or the like, you can only reach certain char.lvls on lower diff.lvls, making restart-scumming much less useful
  • in order to encourage and reward harder play, relatively minor perks, like extra stat-gain, will be given for leveling up on higher diff.lvls. This way, the earlier you enter higher difficulties, the more potential your char will have throughout the entire game, while not easing it up so much that higher diff.lvls are "the same but different". This may make some items and spells only realistically (or possibly officially) usable by hard players, making the very hardest stages reachable by others - but only passable by them

I'm very much looking forward to everyone's thoughts and feedback on this one.

Same for that nuke :P

Good job!

Although some here disagree, I suggest putting in a few ranks of SoaB. It helps with the ammo, and if taken instead of your TaN, as you see you have the medkits for balance.

I also suggest beating Hell's Arena at any cost, but if you aren't up to it, killing only the first two waves gives you a much needed early chaingun, esp. on M.diff.

No-one seems to have mentioned Master of Orion (II). Turn-based and 2D. Just devide movement by 10 and it's rogue turns.

Edit: sorry, DaEezT did near the begining of the thread :) My bad.

Finally got through and I forgot to save it -_-
Guess I'll just have to do it again some time :P

Nuked Cybie, this time before he could kill me.
Now it's Purity and I'm Major! Has anyone managed it yet?

I've also turned Cacodemon while practicing on AoB.
Which brings me to the question: will it be possible to save progress into the new version?

Duuude, GREAT!
Goodluck man!
Do this enough and you'll anyway eventually luck-out on a nuke somewhere before CD :)
I'd say a N! partial win's just as good ^^

Nightmare! / Re: [N!] Any suggestions?
« on: December 23, 2006, 09:11 »
I've been continuing pretty fast, much before Exp10, maybe 4-5 (mostly spent on EE and TaN), so it isn't the perks keeping me alive most of the time.
Made it this way to lvl5 or so, regularly. Still, I've also been dying around that same level.

IMO the more are dead, the slower they come back - I'm guessing it's a universal timer.
I'm basing this mostly on the first Dlevel, where the first Sergeant seems to come back after a couple of steps, but the last one takes much longer.

Has anyone checked if doors prevent corpses?

And are you SURE LostSouls permadie? I'm quite certain I kept getting more of them in "cleared" rooms.

As far as intuition goes, try replacing it with Cateye. It's short-term, but like DaEezT said, they're everywhere.
On the other hand: the whole "monsters next room" thing makes it important, after all...
