Bug Reports / Re: [0.9.9.5 Win7] crosshair memory inconsistent

I always though that corner shooting (which I imagine as firing blindly while revealing just the gun from cover) was A) something a marine such as doomguy should be able to do, B) badass.

61 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 38 of those were killed.
1 of those was killed by something unknown.
7 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 3 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 14 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
5 sacrificed itself for the good of mankind.
6 killed the bitch and survived.
3 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to advance both of my ranks, so I tried for a 100% kill HMP game with a pistol build. Some highlights are: In hell's armory I assembled my first speedloader pistol, since I remembered the schematics from .994. Then I killed the Shambler and reaped the rewards - schematics for speedloader pistol! Well, that sucked.
You may have noticed that went for 100% kills and yet ended up with 77% - that is because I knew I needed just one more medal to get the Heroic Silver Badge, so I decided to go for the explorer medal. I stupidly peeked into every special level and usually left immediately, though I'm not sure I'd manage to finish the game without the ubercharge I got in the mortuary (with homing phase device, mortuary can be a blessing).
In any case - I did kill 100% monsters in random levels and in the levels I wanted to clear, so I'm kinda sad, especially since the last few levels were very tough and would have been much easier if I just went down the stairs ASAP like I should have.

When I reached Dis, I had around 20% health and no healthpacks. Thank god for that nuclear plasma rifle. The little spiders sent you this, you bitch! See you in hell!

Bug Reports / Re: [0.9.9.5] AI exploit - trees

A quick fix for this particular issue could be to allow the trees to be destroyed.

...or make them block vision.

There, re-worked the idea so that you won't get spoiled unless you choose to. Happy hunting :)

You, sir, are amazing.

Say, how do the monsters work.

Do they attack after your move?
If so, then that's pretty cheap, IMHO.

For details see here: http://doom.chaosforge.org/wiki/Time

Damn, that spoiler looks tempting... I ought to stop visiting this forum until this topic disappears from the first page.

Do we finally get one where we don't have to march (or sprint, as the case may be) into a bunch of monsters with ranged attacks?

But we already have such weapons! They are called "ranged".

It's not just the enemies, player's aiming is also subject to this (the targeting line is green even when going through the trees.

Requests For Features / Re: Stairs = elevator?
« on: January 15, 2012, 06:47 »
Who the hell actually reads messages? :P

Also useful if you are zerked and want to avoid a special level.

Ironically, last two or three times I played AoPc, I entered the mortuary by accident, but had a homing phase device in each case, so at least I got a supercharge out of it.

Hmmm... it would look kinda weird to have monorail station in the middle of the room. And only one tile small.
I think I still prefer elevator, though the flavour argument is getting a tiny bit shaky.

I don't think it would make the game much less roguelike, though.

« on: January 14, 2012, 06:53 »
Yeah, right. I guess I was a little confused by Wolfenstein 3d, in Doom it was more like some horizontal transport, not vertical.

In any case, I don't remember stairs ever connecting levels in Doom, that's why I'd prefer to call it elevator.

Requests For Features / Stairs = elevator?
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:56 »
I just realized that it's weird that there are stairs between levels, since Doom had either elevators or teleporters. How about calling the stairs elevator for flavour reasons?

I wanted to suggest Half-Life style crowbar, but I see it's been suggested twice before, so I just second that.

Maybe it could give you small acid (and maybe fire) resistance, as a nod to Gordon's hazmat suit.

Discussion / Re: ASCII graphics for Doom
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:45 »
Not sure how this would be received by the mainstream Doom community, but give it a shot :P

I'm doing it just for you! Well, and myself, obviously. I mean, it's high time I made a mod for Doom. I used to make a lot of maps for Duke 3D (that was way before I even had internet, so I guess it's all lost now) and then I pretty much only did stuff for Blizzard's games. But I really want to mod doom, for old time's sake.

Plus it seems nowadays it's very easy.

Edit: It seems to be high time to make this mod, btw, seeing that a graphical version is around the corner.

Hehe... I actually stopped (well, more like paused) playing DF when I discovered DoomRL few weeks back.

Also, great! I was afraid somebody beat me to it. I've just about familiarized myself with some Doom modding tools and swapping the small lo-res sprites with even lower-res pseudo-ASCII sprites is going pretty well... I'll post some results when I have some results. That means soon.
