Kill the V while it's immobile, kill the B at your own leisure. Even a Bruiser Brother should be fodder for a plasma rifle with the proper traits.

Seeing you, Thomas and AStranger post all these awesome mortems makes me feel pretty pathetic when just completing the standard game on HNTR is a challenge for me. Great video though, very informative.

This was the VERY FIRST TIME, EVER that I got beyond level 3 on AoB. JC killed me, but it still registered as a nuke-win, so I dunno whether to tag this YASD or YAVP. The monsters left alive were either on early levels where I often had to run to the stairs, or on special levels that I didn't visit (Arena and Vaults, because neither offered anything I needed and had a good chance of me dying stupidly). I also missed the Shambler because I didn't have a homing phase device to teleport to him and didn't want to chase him down while he whittled away at my health.

I found the DS on one of the hell levels, but since I couldn't lift it and didn't have any idea at all what to do to get it working, I just left it there in disgust.

A strange thing was that I almost never managed to keep a zerk going between levels, so my first kill was always very tense, especially deeper down where it was often a baron or vile or what have you. In comparison, the Mortuary was laughably easy because a Vile spawned right next to me and was gracious enough to reward me with a zerk on the first hit. After that, the only real enemy was boredom.

I could have taken JC too if I was a little smarter and left room in my backpack for the nuke in the Mortuary or if I just stood back and let him build up an army of Barons to zerk up on, but I just had to phase next to him and let his barons surround me.

Well, whatever. Still a good showing for my first ever AoB beyond level 3, and my first AoB since 0.9.8.9.

Yeah, but at that point, I'm usually level 7, so I only get a bit more than 10% XP for each Shambler kill. I'd have to kill ten of the guys to be noticeably stronger, and I'd die before that.

Although there was that one time with two medical armors, a plasma rifle and MAc, but that was just for fun and I'd never have posted the mortem even if I had succeeded. (Shambler lightning takes off more than 25% of base health, even with an armor of 2.)

It was upgraded to 6d6 damage in 0.9.9.3, making it basically a fast-loading missile launcher you can rocket-jump with.
Huh. That is good. And considering that bulk mods seem to be the most common after agility mods, it's got a good chance of actually being created, too.

Any BFG 9000 (Bx) setup is worthwhile. There are exactly three uses for bulk mods, in descending order of usefulness.
1.) Slap 'em on a BFG (useful as many times as you can do it)
2.) Slap 'em on a red (or better) armor (useful once, less useful twice)
3.) Slap 'em on the chainsaw (useful once, the rest of the slots are better served by trying to turn it into a double chainsaw)

I was aiming for Conqueror from the start and as if the game knew it, it conspired to screw me over at every turn. I went into the Arena without any armor at all, I didn't get anything better than a chaingun until level 12 or so (and let me tell you, killing a sergeant wearing Cybernetic Armor with an A1 modded chaingun is not fun), I had to kill the Shambler with the same chaingun (that's when I first used up all my medpacks) and for the crown jewel of it all, I had a brainfart and killed almost all the demons in UC in the doorway, where they wouldn't leave corpses, so the hatred skull was completely useless. Thanks to that, I died. It wasn't a bad run, all things considered, but I really wish I didn't have to do inventory management puzzles all the time. I actually had to leave medpacks behind because I needed a homing phase device or a particular weapon.

Lesson from all this: if you're aiming for Conqueror, plan the entire thing out beforehand and account for the RNG being a dick.

The sniper-modded plasma rifle was fun though.

Actually, "infinite exp" can be only after you get ammochain. Else you'll run off of ammo and medpacks earlier or later.
/me thinks of shooting rockets in horde of shamblers.
But since Ammochain builds get it around the time they enter the Armory anyway...

Poor Route Planning: Envirosuit runs out while surrounded on all tiles by lava and/or acid
Cocky: Die while berzerked
Almost Doesn't Count: Die with a consumable or powerup on the ground 0-1 tiles from you
Almost Doesn't Count Redux: Die 1 tile from a megasphere
Listen To Yourself: pull a lever marked as 'harmful' by intuition
Because You Can: Punch every boss with your fists.
These sound incredibly fun. I actually want them.

Uses shotgun ammo
Higher damage at point blank than the double shotty with extra knockback, but with even steeper falloff, basically useless at range. Slow reload time.

Heals the player like a normal small med-pack if damaged, but adds 10 health like a small health globe when at full health.

Why yes, I did just recently get Team Fortress 2. The Engineer doesn't get an item because all his weapons are building-related and that sucks.

Chaingun (later plasma or if I can find a laser rifle, that), double shotty (only if playing with Whizkid for the assembly), rocket launcher (ditched for missile launcher after The Wall), BFGs (usually modded with all the bulk mods I can find). As for items, health packs. Lots of health packs. Since I usually play a tank build without any actual defensive traits, I need a lot of healing.

The exception is on AoSh, where I play what I call the Scout build (dodge everything, hit'em in the face with a double shotty, run away, essentially MFa with added Finesse). I focus much more on phase devices there.
