I usually do one of these with each version but I'm not sure I ever got around to .997.
I find the pseudoconsole in this version to be much more sluggish than the old traditional console. This was a fairly clean run with some decent luck on stair placement. I'm not sure that sub 3-minute times are possible nowadays.

Speedruns are still here and the foruma hasn't changed - Run to Chainsaw, hit level 2 off of bruiser #1, level 3 off of Bruiser #2. Level 4 (maybe 5 too from Cybie?) and dash to Spider. Used a homing phase on level 23. Didn't bother to put on armor or boots. Had to use a large medkit for Spider and at least one earlier.
Now if only I could find the time to sit down and play a serious game...

This time I bumped up the difficulty two notches for my first ever attempt of AoB at the HMP level (I usually only do HNTR and N!)
No change in strategy here - run to CC and get the chainsaw. Killed a bit more this time around

How about an option to replay your final level with omnicient mode (all visible) so we can see exactly what happened?
I'm not a dev, but I guess this is basically an ASCII frame dump that can be saved, replayed and possibly shared with others.
So we can get a sense of movespeeds, keep the frame resolution at .2s.
EDIT: I was thinking this would only generate the ASCII dump on victory or death and would the file would be replaced on each subsequent replay.

Scout is a pretty good way to go and Cateye helps out a bit. Pretty vanilla run otherwise

Since it's currently in development, I thought I would throw up the badge series idea even thought I haven't tested it.

A thick haze settles in the area.
Accuracy: -5 for all beings in on the floor (does not affect sigh range though)
Visual change: Floor dots are now dark grey instead of light grey/white.
I think this type of event could be interesting for all builds except shotgun. Hopefully it happens in an Arach Cave!

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.4] Total Game Time tracking error

Very minor/misleading error.
I've noticed lately that my total play time has gone up a lot. I'm over 1 day so far since the public release, but I think I found out why...
The game adds your time sitting at the menu or player screen on to your next game if you don't close it. I found this out because I play a lot at work and I'll let it sit open for hours at the main menu without a game.
The quick test: Check your play time, let it sit for a few minutes, load up AoPc and set off a nuke and even though it says you only played for 10 seconds, it'll add that few minutes to your game time. Then quickly start AoPc again and nuke yourself and it will only add the few seconds since your last game.
This should probably be taken care of, just in case we add features that might use the game clock.

I've been repeating this run for 3 versions now because it's the best forumla for clearing away all of those pesky badges (especially the Veteran series).
Nailed GK diamond in the process.
Rev complex was pretty irritating but fortunately it didn't give me too many and all were actually solo encounters.
This run has evolved in to using two plasma rifles, one high powered for clearing away walls [GK Diamond necessity] and the other with no damage to zap enemies dead fast. The HP plasma rifle is pretty useless because it will knock enemies out of the line of fire (except Cybie and JC).
I probably could have traded the final levels of Iroman for at least WK1 for some mod action but it didn't matter all that much.

Here is an idea that would add an entire new gameplay layer accessable to veteran players and build specialists.
Champion Challenges
It starts off simple enough with our usual list of "Angel of X" challenges
Let's walk through the idea with Angel of Berserk
A veteran player has been able to beat AoB on HNTR, HMP, N! and finally wraps up his final difficulty level for that challenge by beating UV.
Well that earns him a medal, which we'll call the "Berserker Medallion". But that's not all. It unlocks a new challenge called "Champion of Berserk".
This challenge is 100 levels under the Angel of Berserk rules at either UV, N! or a modified difficulty level. Finishing this makes a player a TRUE CHAMPION of Berserk, which would probably include another unique medal and ultimately a badge series devoted to how many Champion Challenges you can complete.
Now from the start, even a fresh player should be able to read about Champion Challenges under the Challenge Game menu because there would be two columns, but Champion Challenges would always be greyed out until the Angel level has been completed on all difficulty levels. The challenge screen for a relatively new player with only 3 challenges open would look something like this:

Not sure what to do about Ao100 - Champion of Eternity?
Anyway, I think if the gameplay were extended for veteran players in this direction, it would keep me coming back for a looooong time. That and it would give me a reason to do things like AoMr on HMP and other various challenge levels I wouldn't normally think about.
Maybe this would be a great time to direct your attention to my old bounty about Former Elites in those Champion game modes...:P

Requests For Features / XP Ranks 2.0

One concept that has been pretty much untouched since 0.9.8.X are XP ranks. Well now that the game has progressed a bit, I have a proposal to make this concept more meaningful.
I think it's a good idea to keep the distinction between XP and Skill rank. Now, the skill ranks are earned through amazing feats of gameplay (badges) while the XP ranks are attained through a lot of gameplay killing various monsters. Now that we have secret medals and assemblies - the reward for experience is revealing information to the player as they gain XP rank. Also this change will normalize the XP rank progression since the vast majority of Veteran's are basically sitting at the Arch-Vile rank.
Enough talk
Here is the proposal:
*The fresh player starts with all medals and assemblies (even basics) hidden from view except for the two most common ones (Hell Champion Medal/UAC Star Bronze & tactical boots)
*Gaining rank reveals medal names and requirements AND assembly names, but not how to make them (the name alone will give players a good clue if they aren't spoiled on the wiki)
*Rank requirements will keep the idea of killing X number of the title monsters and introduce earning X number of any medals and eventually completing the game X number of times

I didn't really count the numbers of assemblies or unique medals but scaling the concept is pretty easy.
EDIT: I thought about the idea of having "secret" ranks that you can attain and elect to have in your mortem title rather than a linear progression. These secret ranks would be the boss enemies like Bruisers or Arena Master that you can 'discover' by say killing the AM 50 times in melee. I couldn't think of an exact way to implement it - but it is something to think about

I didn't really count the numbers of assemblies or unique medals but scaling the concept is pretty easy.
EDIT: I thought about the idea of having "secret" ranks that you can attain and elect to have in your mortem title rather than a linear progression. These secret ranks would be the boss enemies like Bruisers or Arena Master that you can 'discover' by say killing the AM 50 times in melee. I couldn't think of an exact way to implement it - but it is something to think about
Definitely open to different possibilities here.

First attempt at the new AoLT Silver (HMP) and let me say that the speed buff is perfect for the berserker! Regular movement speeds are sub .5 wearing red armor when considering AoLT + Scout + HR2. This is pretty fun for people who like running around FAST.
Untouchable Badges aren't really something you can plan for, they just sort of happen. Fun run! Going to change challenges and do this one on AoHaste for a speedrunner plat
Bug Testing note: This was RC5 and no bugs were noticed this time around. ALSO - Berserk + Env Suit = pretty much invincible to cybie. 87/50 health after definitely getting hit point blank with a truckload of rockets (the first even sent me in to berserk mode). No doding here but knockback made me have to recharge him every time
