Announcements / Re: Jupiter Hell Kickstarter is LIVE!
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:58 »
First time in ages, I don't visit forum or JH site for a bit, and the Kickstarter campaign is almost over O_o.

Luklily managed to chip in at the last moment :)

Off Topic / Re: Now playing... (games)

Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV. I'm stuck with these two for two months now and still want more. The export between CKII an EUIV is great way to enhance the gameplay :)

I vaguely recall that when a monster dies while you wield melee weapon (or are empty handed), it could count as a melee kill. Someone else will have to confirm it though, I never got Lightfoot diamond myself.

Off Topic / Your roguelike reccomendations
« on: March 10, 2014, 12:01 »
Hi guys. I'm currently looking for some new graphical roguelikes  (i'm waaay too bad with ascii) and I'd like to hear your suggestions :)

So far, I have spent countless hours on DoomRL, Nethack (Falcons Eye), FTL, Sword of The Stars - The Pit, Desktop Dungeons, Dungeons of Dredmor and Tales of Maj'Eyal 4. I also tried a bit of Elona and Project Zomboid, but didn't really stick with them since I didn't like the interface of the former and raged over the bugs in latter...

I would love to try on Dwarf Fortress or ADOM, but I didn't find any suitable tiles version of either (I know, I'm picky :) so until Jupiter Hell is released, I'm eager to hear your tips on any interesting roguelikes you know of :)

Discussion / Re: Rebalancing barrels?

I disagree with nerfing the barrels, I like that sometimes, they just surprise you so much it's (nearly) impossible to avoid death. Losing is FUN ;)

Post Mortem / Re: [M|AoMr|YAVP x3] All kinds of Marksman
« on: February 15, 2014, 01:26 »
when playing masterlees pistol build, I'd really emphasize the importance of getting SoG 3 first. Then, with dualgunner, everything just melts and you can easily focus on expanding the character in the playstyle you want :)

Nightmare! / Re: [N!|ArchAoHu|35%|14|YASD] A promising strategy?
« on: January 25, 2014, 03:37 »
Interesting :) I'm attempting Evereryman Plat/Diamond at the moment (in combo with Ao100 - I keep dying in the Cathedral) , so I somewhat understand the unforgivingness (is that even a word? :D) of AoHu. Getting this far on archangel challenge is really nice achievement - now just get lucky on some invul on lvl 15 and go get that Cybie ;)

General Discussion / Re: Design Rant : Inventory
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:42 »
This is a pretty valid point! For a moment I wanted to immediately go with it, however, there's another problem -- what about addon slots? Things like mods, or expansion elements for armor? There'll be no easy way to see what you're currently packing.

How about making some sort of pop-up for the weapons/armors to insert the mods?

Discussion / Re: Quick questions thread!

Ad 1) Probably true. There are statistical tests that could determine if it suffer from dmg dropoff or not, although I'd have to relearn my statistics to do it properly (and also increase the testing sample to maybe 10k :-D)

Ad 2) I'd say it means the random part of the calculation dominates the total damage sum.

Requests For Features / Adding a ladder
« on: December 24, 2013, 05:09 »
I'm thinking about this for some time now - I'd like to see some sort of ladder showing the best doomrl players - based on badges. A lot of ppl (including me) add their rank to the forum signature, but there is no way of directly compare one to another. For me, a LOT of encouragement to play comes from getting new badges, it could be even better if I knew I need one more to improve my standing in the ladder. A score could be calculated based on the value of the badges - e.g. number of bronze *1 + number of silver*3 + number of gold*9 etc... - obviously the actual formula would have to be properly thought through. Seeing my own standing compared to the other players could be nice addition to the game :) What do you think?

I tried everyman diamond quite a few times as well, it usually ends up with me doing a stupid thing a dying to a lost soul or something. I think selfcontrol and keeping recklessness at minimum are the key here (I need to wastly improve both :)...

Don't forget the 20% speed boost you get from playing AoLT.

This right here probably prevented some very annoying YASD :) Thnx

Congratz on successful run.

That's something like EE-SoB-Fin-SoB-SoB-*-TH/EE/Fin2/WK
(where * is your split point - either split into whizkid, TH, or EE)

I've never been fan of rapid fire builds, I think I'll try your approach and see where it gets me :)

Damn, I'm gonna have to learn play N! properly, you two make it sound easy :) (and the videois big help as well)
