Title: Roguelike you may wanna check out
Post by: Thomas on December 31, 2007, 03:39
(Yeah, this totally isn't advertising. But Kornel said it was okay :P)

Chessrogue (Located here: http://chessrogue.sourceforge.net/), is a pretty decent roguelike based on... argh, I've forgotten. It was based on a board game. Anyway, the problem is that it's only just reached a playable beta release and there's absolutely no community there to help Chris test it and give him feedback. If you're interested drop by his site, play his game and see if you have ideas to help improve it.

Also, if you're living on the international date line, happy new year.

I played it before. I think it's pretty fun, except at the moment where you get the Horse Jump ability... then you're overpowered and it gets boring. But yeah that's only my opinion.

CHESS.  Chess, one of the oldest and most famous boardgames, is what it's based on (though to be precise there's a bit of liberty taken with the main idea, which fortunately makes sense from a RL perspective and plays well).  I enjoy the direction of it as a stab at a seriously tactical roguelike based in the idea of chess, and it's certainly got potential.

(I think he knew that, but wanted to be funny.)

You could at least put "Chessrogue" in the thread title. Empty phrases like "something new and totally cool" DO sound like advertising ;)
