You have forgotten the faces of your fathers.

Your knowledge of this awesome series brought me back from limbo just to tell you this.

Oh well. Looks like I'm going to have to put up with my knives sounding like chainsaws from now on.

To give a serious answer though, Chainsword being an assembly probably inherits Ccombat Knife's sounds. This means you *can* change the sound used to something more fitting (if you can find a fitting sound file that is), but then you'd have the Combat Knife sounding like a Chainsword.

I think I get it. Fixing the issue would require the Chainsword to have a different item category. But then, it would no longer count as a knife for the purpose of knife challenges/unlockables/traits/whatnot. Looks tricky.

Yeah. And fusion batteries were nowhere to be found either.

(You've actually made me go and check if that was the case. You scoundrel, you.)

Bug Reports / Chainsword is a blunt weapon!
« on: September 07, 2016, 14:00 »
I assembled a chainsword and proceeded to promptly ripping and tearing some demon guts. Instead of a satisfying buzz-roar expected under such circumstances, my strikes sounded like hitting a wet sponge with a forehead covered in guacamole. Which means they made a default melee sound.

Is that meant to be? I realize it has no impact on the gameplay whatsoever and it's just a puny matter of aesthetics, but come on. :(

6
Interesting! I'll have a read.

Aw shoot, I'm completely unfamiliar with the topic. Sorry.

Dark Heresy I've done before. If I understand correctly, this game is loosely based on it. But the huge mecha anime schtick I just don't go well along with. Shame upon me, I know.

Nothing in particular at the moment. I've done lots of various stuff in my history of GMing, I've also got a few things I'd yet like to give a first try...

- Dogs in the Vineyard by D. Vincent Baker scream to me as a rules-light, dilemma-heavy system in which players assume roles of travelling missionaries in a Wild West-like setting. If westerns are not your thing, I've also been poking about with restitching it so that it fit to more of a cyberpunk/cybernoir world, putting a global megacorporation in place of the church and you in the boots of troubleshooters sent to ensure maximum efficiency, human rights be damned, or enforce some corporate policies. You know, usual corpofascist dystopian stuff;

- Speaking of Wild West, or rather Weird West, I'm a huge fan of Deadlands. The Savage Worlds reedition seems convincing enough to give it a shot or six, and simple enough to gamemaster through the forum board. Actually, anything powered by Savage Worlds could do;

- Speaking of cyberpunk, good old CyberPunk 2020 has a warm, warm place in my cerebral cortex, although I realize mechanics aged in a not exactly graceful manner and might seem a little crude at times. Not advised;

- I have homebrewed a fun little game inspired by one of my favourite novels, Lord of the Ice Garden (sadly, I don't think it was ever translated to english - not that it matters, the game can be retrofitted to any setting we'd want). The mechanics are mostly built around the idea of managing your reserves of strength and willpower, basically making every test passable... Until it becomes too much for you to handle. I'm still working on this one, though it's already playable (and additional playtesters are always welcome, too!);

- Mistborn: The Adventure Game, if any Brandon Sanderson fans are in. A fun postapocalyptic fantasy setting, story-driven, wicked magic system, though I'd rather not touch it unless you know the Mistborn novels;

- I've recently discovered I Am Zombie, a game made by the guy who twenty five years ago gave us Vampire: The Masquerade. This time you're not a vampire though, but a person infected with some kinda zombie nanovector which, apart from tearing you from the inside, gives you crazy powers, ability to command actual zombies and a huge red mark on your forehead which says "murder me" to all the members of a global security agency bent on wiping you and your kin off the face of Earth. Since it runs on Axiom, and Axiom means the use of playing cards, I suppose we'd have to go with storytelling on this one. Unless I somehow figure it out.

I'm also open to any ideas you would have.

That is, ideas that are not D&D.

9
I'm up for just about anything. Except D&D.

I'm not keen on doing D&D either.

10
Oh, these are fine details we would figure out later... Once we have a group, that is. I'm not planning on anything rules-heavy, though, and consider myself flexible enough to let the collective will of the pack decide.

Seeing this place so very dead and realizing the PBF subforum mod had given his/her/its last display of life functions only about three years ago (what is it compared to eternity?), there is a question I would like to ask:

Are you guys all so super hyped for Jupiter Hell that nobody plays any other games anymore, PBF included?

If negative, would anyone be up to anything, given the chance?

All the details you'd like, mate. There we go:

Congrats on your Centurial Gold!  :D  Lots to comment on here!  :)

Thank you, thank you! This wasn't really as bad as I expected. I think I could have done that on Ultra-Violence instead and still do just as good. Of course, given I'd recieve just as much RNG love as in this particular case.

Malek's Armour on level 7?  That's a seriously lucky find!  :o  (I didn't even know it could spawn that early in the game!)

I suppose it must have been a welcoming gift for returning after several years of not playing. That, or I just used up my amounts of luck for another twenty years.

And yeah, Army of the Dead can really dish out the pain, especially with a few levels of SOB.  (I kind of wonder why you put off getting that trait until the end)

I wonder as well. I forgot that SoB bonus damage gets multiplied with both double shotties and rapidfire guns - actually, the decision to pick SoB was driven by noticing how cool my plasma smartgun was. Oh well!

And if you find Angel of 100 grindy, I recommend against playing it's bigger cousin, Archangel of 666.  Now that's a *real* grind!  :P

I am going to do it anyways, next time I am feeling masochistic.

This is interesting.  I don't think I've seen this message before?  :|  Although, now that I look at some of my past mortems, I seem to have encountered it several times, mostly in ArchAo666 games.  Does anyone know what it means?

My guess is that's the note for "mortars of hell" event. Maybe that's not the most fortunate wording... "Walked under artillery fire" would make more sense.

Using the Angel Arm is fun, but I would advise caution about using it too much.  Each time it says "your life is drained," it's reducing your maximum health!  It's a lucky thing you didn't get instakilled toward the end after having used it ten times!  :o  (Especially if you were wearing the Enviroboots full time, since they slow you down, potentially letting enemies get a double shot at you)

Didn't realize Enviroboots slowed a man so badly, but that would explain the mess all the Mancubi made when I tried to engage them in melee. Or how badly Nightmare Arach caves sucked. As per getting drained from using the Angel Arm, I decided to pick these two levels of Ironman just because of this - to mitigate the risks of running low on health. Though with lower overall maximum hit points it should be easier for damage to trigger the berserk, am I right?
Guess I'm almost ready for Angel of Humanity, then! ^_^

...Gosh, ten times? Really? I must have lost track!
Should have named my mortem something like "One-Armed Angel". Or "Sixty Billion Double Dollar Man".

One more thing...

("Welcome to Cyberville" sign)

Also a rare find.  That must've been one hell of a battle!  Details?  :)

Honestly? I kind of improvised. It was pretty easy to force melee on two to three at the same time. And the rest seemed very eager to hit each other with their missile launchers if you positioned in such a fashion. There also was a cacodemon vault on the same floor - I'd say it would be so much more fun if cacos got replaced with cybies as well. Cyberdemon vault... Imagine that!

I'd also like to add that going Berserker was the best decision, like, ever. By the endgame it got triggered so oftenly that it felt just like being permazerked.

Thanks for your insights!

That was... slightly underwhelming, to be honest. But then, I suppose the Random Number God was quite gentle unto me.

 24 of those were killed.
 1 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
 And 2 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 2 souls destroyed the Mastermind...
 2 killed the bitch and survived.

A few afterthoughts I'd like to share:
+ Having a Trigun and an invulnerability globe on turns alt-reload into a "skip level" button. Satisfying, especially with a Cyberdemon in sight when you descend. I really liked that, especially by the end, when I was slowly growing tired.
+ What I didn't really like was the way the game turned into "spot the Arch-Vile" past level 50. It felt slightly grindy, too - though the thrill of "there could be unique goodies" was enough to keep me pressing forward. Overall, the challenge was fun, but I feel I won't be doing another one anytime soon. Need a bit of R&R.
+ I got a sniper mod pack early - decided to slap it on a plasma rifle just for kicks, since I was going for a shotgun run. Smartlinked plasma cooker turned out to be an excellent backup weapon, really helpful with these "spot the V" minigames. Not to mention notions like running out of ammo for boomsticks.
+ Malek's Armor a.k.a. Malek's Training Wheels. Gotten early, probably taken off once to see what Plasma Shield did. It sustained hideous amounts of damage throughout the whole game and significantly helped me with, well, not being dead. The game turned out to be a real piece of cake, not having to worry about collecting bits of armor. Thanks for lending me your shirt, man.
+ Another set of training wheels, just in case I managed to fall over anyway - Enviroboots. Afterwards it was just waiting for certain levels to flood completely with lava, then move on. And another layer of micromanagement off - who needs envirosuits, boots or all that crap, when you can have more thermonukes?
+ Lovely, lovely chainsword, my poor man's Dragonslayer. Why doesn't it make that satisfying chainsaw buzz, instead torturing my ears with that wet sponge punching sound? Or did I miss the power switch?

(Replaced it with the Butcher's Cleaver later on and deeper into the base.  It's fun to be a blademaster even though you aren't, though wielding any other weapon with this armor on felt just wrong.)

Overall, good to be back.
