Bug Reports / [0.9.9.4|win 7] strange message when meleeing with ranged on aob

In angel of berserk, you normally get a message such as "You pull the trigger, but nothing happens!" etc., when you try to fire a ranged weapon. But if you melee with one of these weapons in the primary weapon slot, the melee attack works and you get the same message. This seems strange because you are not pulling the trigger - you are hitting dudes in the face with a pistol. =P

I nuked the lava pits twice while standing on the stairs, and suddenly I was unable to go down or see any >. I looked around with my envirosuit and phases and was unable to find any stairs or the lava element. Mortem below:

I do love berserker diamond after early game. I had a fun d:2, where I spawned next to a computer map and some imps - managed to kill the imps to get the map and reveal a room near me with a bunch of demons and a berserk pack. So I ran around them to grab the pack and killed them, getting a ton of early xp which helped a lot. I was a little worried about hellgate, but I managed to phase past the hard part, and then I got to UC and city of skulls, which was pretty much a win at that point. Hell:9 spawned me next to the stairs in a pain elemental cave for good measure. :)

I was inspired by Tormuse's recent destroyer diamond game to try it myself, and I hadn't used cateye in a long time so why not. This took me 3 attempts; in the first, I amusingly obtained shambler's head and then accidentally shot a rocket into the loot. Attempts 1 and 2 both ended to getting knocked back into a worse situation. Oh well.
Juggler was easily the most important trait in each game for me. I could immediately switch to a firestorm plasma rifle, a napalm launcher, or a rocket launcher, any time I got into trouble.

For some reason, all of my winning characters are named Derek Yu.I was just trying to get to captain with some UV-required badges, but it seems I lucked into gatekeeper diamond. I had an invicibility pack and a berserk pack on d:14, so I:
wielded BFG; went berserk; went invincible; homing phased and >. Then I immediately phased and ended up inside the bruiser brothers' area. I emptied the BFG and then switched to plasma rifle and chain-fired them down. Still invincible, I used my last phase and ended up on the right edge of the other dudes. Chain-fired them all in time.
It seems like this is a pretty easy (too easy?) diamond badge considering you don't need to plan or be exceptionally lucky to get it.

Well, I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I am back playing doomrl. I lost my old copy, so I have to re-earn badges - got a surprising 4 gold badges in this game! This was the first try with AoB on medium and was as easy as I remembered.. just running around with a chainsaw and 200% health... until I decided to clear the mortuary. The new arch-vile retreating behavior is very annoying for melee games. Because of their speed, they are almost unkillable in an open area like the mortuary. Oh well. I used up my inventory full of med packs and phase devices and perserved. Cyberdemon of course was much easier than that level. :)

Nothing much to say here... N! AoB is so awful in the beginning but gets nicer. Had an early chained court which was nice because i was completely out of items at this point. Missed UC because I was busy running from spiders, but chainsaw does a decent enough job.

This build and challenge makes nightmare kind of easy. At one point I even farmed an arachnotron cave for cells. Also, power mods on weapons are very nice in AoMC... each 1 is equivalent to a level of SOB.

Woohoo, my first diamond badge. Not really much method to this run... just had some luck with stairs and homing phase devices. Usually get a nice boost from chained court but couldn't find it this time. Guess it didn't matter. :) I had one level where I made a detour to grab an invuln globe with a baron almost killing me... turned out to be the right choice as there was a vile/revenant pack on the stairs.

First serious try at this, and it's surprisingly fun. I had some luck chaining invuln globes together and ran around invincible/berserk for like 10 levels. I actually had to use my nuke to get through an arach cave because I spawned in the corner, with an arach that wouldn't move trapping me in. Luckily found another one in a few levels, but then that luck ran out when I ended up trapped between two vile packs. I tried to use a kill creatures lever on the one with revenants because that seemed slightly less insane than running at the mancubi. Was out of charges so ended up charging the mancubi/viles anyway. Might've been smart of me to be wearing armor at the time, though...
