Requests For Features / Postmortem: Last Sight You Ever Saw
« on: January 08, 2007, 05:10 »
It'd be fun to include the dungeon map (as it looked when you died) to the postmortem. Got the idea from Getix's "Swarmed by Arachnotrons" thread... read the thread title and just wondered how many arachs there were. :)
What do people think? Would that be a cool addition? At the bottom of the postmortem.

Requests For Features / More Interesting Postmortem History
« on: December 01, 2006, 02:26 »
Postmortem history right now seems fairly redundant, especially since it tells you all the special levels you went through at the top. I suggest having some more interesting things to say for each level in the history?
First sentence could always be "On level X he A through B" like you have now, only with more options, depending on what occured.
Normal: "On level X he fought through B."
If a very low percentage of enemies was killed then: "On level X he quickly fled through B."
If all the enemies were killed then: "On level X he slaughtered his way through B. It was a bloodbath!"
If the player has below 10% health at any point in the level then: "On level X he nearly died in B, but survived."
Then you could have an additional sentence that displays any interesting things that were picked up along the way. "There he picked up a thermonuclear bomb and an invulnerability globe."
And I'm sure there are other ways to make it more interesting.
"Many foes fell before his Longinus Spear."
"And he telefragged an Arch-vile!"
"Things were looking bad for him on level X..." (a modifier for the first sentence if he starts with low health, no armor, etc.)
"He gained the level 3 Dualgunner trait!" (would be nice for people on the forums to see :)
"His favorite weapon was the extended combat shotgun he received on level X." (for the end?)
"There he went on a berserk killing spree and turned N enemies into pulp!"
You get the picture! ;)

The Mortuary is incredibly frightening, even on ITYTD. I love the Arch-viles!
Two hits with the Longinus Spear to take out Cybie.

Requests For Features / Rooms!!!
« on: November 27, 2006, 18:58 »
One thing I would like to see in a new version of DoomRL is more interesting room designs... something other than square! I love the special bloody rooms with the good items in them... and the rooms within a room. Kornel, you (I think) mentioned the idea of having things like pillars and lamps at some point. With graphics, we can also change the floor and ceiling tiles to make some (graphically) very interesting looking spaces.
So, unless Kornel has a problem with it, I'd like to get some discussion going about rooms and have people post their ideas! Use the code tags to post your rooms:
To get started, I think at the very least some rooms with pillars to hide behind would be fun:
Circular rooms:
"Closets":
Vaults (lever opens wall, like in City of Skulls):
And here's a regular square room to grab for your own use:
DISCUSS!!!
(p.s. can we change the code font to like courier new or something?)

Requests For Features / Idea: Arena Mode
« on: September 29, 2006, 23:21 »
Maybe you already had this idea but it might be fun to have an unlockable Arena Mode where you are put in an area like Hell's Arena and you keep fighting until you die. Every "round" more/harder monsters come in (along with weapons and health pickups). The arena could change every five rounds or so to keep things fresh (I imagine after a few rounds you'd just have a big rectangle from all the explosions).
The stats you got could be kept as a score in your player profile, separate from the normal game.
This would also give you a chance to try and get as many traits as possible together (since the regular game is limited in the number of monsters you face)... create the ultimate warrior!
