 Before him 645 brave souls have ventured into Phobos: (results of importing player.wad since 0.9.9.1)
 591 of those were killed.
 4 of those were killed by something unknown.
 9 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
 And 40 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

 Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
 Is he immortal? 1 souls claim to have killed him...
 1 killed the bastard and survived. (and now, second iss here!)

RNG was like raining mods at this run, especially with agility ones. There was nearly ten of them, including Chained Court. In the Armory I threw out chaingun (got on level 2 (!)) and made high-power plasma. Then it became like: "Enemy! Burst once, twice... Stop, whom am I shooting at?" Also, there was combat shotty (later - tactical) for weak enemies. Later also was thrown out.
When I found Lava armor, I've already got 2 [AP] red armors; and after finding onyx pack, they were also out. Medkits were mostly unused.
I could end game even without Railgun, but since I got it... And then high-powered it...
80 damage for 5 plasma.
*Shoop da Whoop has nothing to say.*
Also, I entered Phobos Arena invulnerable, hoping for very final battle, but after death of C everything ended. Sort of pity.

Attention! Multi-part post!

I. The tree
Here is Traits Tree (more like forest, actually). Maybe, this will help (or confuse) someone.

It's obvious, that Reloader for now provides three of master traits, Eagle Eye and Son of a Gun are one-master, Ironman and Finesse stand aside for now. Many people mentioned this, so here is...

III. And now, something different
My ideas, someway weird and heretical.
1) Level-only trait requirements. For example, if we can finally unlink Juggler and Whizkid from Finesse, making Juggler only requirement CL 3, and for Whizkid it will be CL 4.
2) Logical connections between basic and advanced traits. Most of them are quite normal, except of Finesse and Son of a Bitch.
But if we disconnect Finesse (from Juggler and Whizkid) and then set it on the place of Son of a Bitch... Suddenly, logic appears: faster firing leads to more bullets per shot!

After this switch we can have something more... different. For example:

Advanced Trait - Heavy Weapon Man
Requires: Son of a Bitch (2)
Max. ranks: 2
Shorthand: HWM
Description: "Don't touch my sweety!"
Effect: when you have big gun (not melee, pistol or shotgun), your armor is increased by 1 per rank and also you suffer less penalties to accuracy while running (-1). At rank 2 there are no penalties at all!

Master Trait - Metalsmith
Requires: Whizkid (2), Heavy Weapon Man (2)
Max. ranks: 1
Shorthand: MSm
Effect: armor not decays from damage. (Thus, you can have red armor [4/4] (1%)!)

Maybe, this shall go for DoomRL 2. Yes, we already have a plenty of special levels. But still, variability = replayability. Maybe, once upon a time we'll have 30 (or more) levels instead of 25 - so we'll need them...
...Well, enough of prologues!


Phobos Laboratory
Depth: somwhere between Chained Court and The Wall.
Difficulty: Hard
Entrance Text: "There are coloured lights everywhere. Looks like Christmas!"
Exit Text: cleared: "Science must serve people!"; not cleared: "Well, somtimes knowledge can harm."

Idea of level: several rooms in a row, representing labs, beautiful and symmetrical; can be decorated with 1-tile boxes. Doomguy begins at the exit, going from left to right. Each next room is opened with lever (maybe, even in classic colours: yellow, blue and red). Walls are unbreakable. Enemies (formers) strength increases from room to room. At the last third (or fourth) of them there is cage, easily breakable (same as wooden crate, or even less) and can be seen through...

...with strong monster inside, difficulty dependant. Or, perhaps, this is secret superhuman prototype. In the same tile there is a treasure lever.

Rewards: plasma rifle (there is no special level with it, so...), ammo, random simple mod, some healing items (medpacks or globes).


Bridge over Styx
Depth: same as Hellgate; replaces it
Difficulty: Medium
Entrance Text: "You hear massive flow."
Exit Text: "Alea iacta est!"

Idea of level: instead of gates, there is bridge to Hell! One side (entrance) is side of base, with regular floor and some supplies for Doomguy. Other side is hellish, red, covered in blood and all the things. Bridge itself is 5 tiles wide (maybe even 3 tiles on harder difficulties!); made of white "=". And it comes over sea of lava. Most enemies are lost souls and cacodemons. There can be also some imps on little islands. Exit (not portal, regular ">") is guarded by one bruiser brother (because without cover pair of them will be too painful) and, maybe, some nightmare demons.


Other unformed yet ideas:
Barrels o' Fun - special level... with barrels!
Cerberon Square - arena level with Quake enemies and unique Quad Damage powerup.
City of Bones - counterpart of City of Skulls. With revenants.
Spawning Vats - room with some indestructable "spawners" and energy generator on other side. Destroy it, before there are too many of them! (phase packs doesn't work)

Discussion / Some thoughts about item names (assemblies too)

First idea is little: after power modpack changed color, it's sometimes hard to distinguish it from small medpack. After all, names of healing items are long. We can rename them back or near to original:
small medpack -> stimpack; big medpack -> medpack (or, as in original, medkit).

Next are numerous armor "nano" assemblies.
Nanofiber Armor, Nanofiber Skin Armor, Cybernano Armor - I didn't even know that there are three of them, just knew from the wiki. We need more speaking names! For example:
nanofiber can stay the same or be powered; nanofiber skin -> exosceletal; cybernano -> cybernised.

Any other thoughts?

Requests For Features / Ammo. Now packed!

1) Recently I've remembered that Doom had two types of stacks for each type of ammo - little and big ones.
10mm: Clip and Box of bullets; shells: 4 shotgun cells and Box of them; rockets: One and Box of them; power cells: Energy cell and Energy cell pack.

2) In DoomRL we can take consumables (as they were in original series) and use them later (excluding AoI, of course).

By combining all of this, we get new item type... Ammo packs!

The primary idea is that you can carry more ammo without once-per-game Backpack.
Each ammo pack takes only one slot of inventory space. It's loaded and unloaded manually, but really fast - it was made for this purpose, after all. Reload and unload - one stack per action. *
Balancing issues: no mods, no Backpack effects, spawn rate - exotic.

How this may look like:
    [e] 10mm ammo chain [250/250]
    [f] 10mm ammo (x100)

Now, let they be presented!

10mm ammo chain
Appearance: !
Ingame Description: That reminds you about action films you've seen long ago.
Capacity: 250 of 10mm bullets.
Reload/Unload time: 0.4 sec per 100 ammo.

Shells box
Appearance: !
Ingame Description: What a handy thing.
Capacity: 125 of shotgun shells.
Reload/Unload time: 0.5 sec per 50 shells.

Rockets pack
Appearance: !
Ingame Description: Now that is REAL "boombox"!
Capacity: 25 of rockets.
Reload/Unload time: 0.6 sec per 10 rockets.

Power battery
Appearance: !
Ingame Description: Ampere-hours of pure energy!
Capacity: 125 of cells.
Reload/Unload time: 0.75 sec per 50 cells.

So, ammo packs will be useful for ammo conserving, Ao100 players and for that who doesn't use Ammochain. Rarity of them should prevent gamebreaking.

Addendum:
* Can we have something similar for minigun reloading, like 100 ammo per 1.8 sec? And full reload (alternative) will be still 3.5 seconds. Because loading one stack per time just seems more reasonable. Same thing for BFG.

Discussion / Effect of Master Traits based on difficulty level

For example: for HMP game Ammochain only gives "no reload", but for N! it should give infinite ammo (for infinite enemies) - it's quite fair, isn't it?
...Well, if you want real nigtmare, this can be reversed.
*madly grins*

Another suggestion: no knockback at all for N! Badass-based traits (feel yourself a Cybie!).
Of course, N! isn't the limit.

There is mentioned in some topics (New lever effects, Monster type levels, maybe others) that we need more of related (and unrelated) messages. Of course, this is optional (like mentioned in "Brevity mode" topic).

For example, when you start run with a double shotgun, you get:
You feel someway... deja vu.
First rocketjump:
Woah, that was like earthQuake!
When killing more than one enemy with barrel exlposion:
Cool, less waste of ammo.
When inventory is fulled (may be uesful, btw):
That was last thing you can take with.
Also, some random messages:
There are painting in blood on walls. And they are made not so long ago.
You see image of goatlike head on wall. Hope, you'll never meet something like this.
This silence is terrible.
(after clearing level)
Former %%TYPE%% suddenly turns head to you and begs: "%%NAME%%, help me..." And then he roars wildly.
And now, something different:
Suddenly, your transponder starts make terrible noise! You hear: "ThaSHHHHgain for using UAC SHHHcurity systems. UAC - the best in Solar sySHHHHHH".
You hear somebody speaking quietly from transponder: "... and fear of krrmnshhhh". You wonder what was the last word. "Kornel"? "Carmac"? Maybe, "corners"?
You hope that someone looks on you from above.
Here you go, to the death!
Looks like that zombie has badge on him: "John"
"...And then John was zombie."
You strafe! Sometimes instead of "You dodge!"

Well, first AoSh win and first win ever. Sweet!
2 tech-mods and Finesse 2 gave me 0.49 shot time, 2 power mods are just cool, and one bulk helped to reload not so often.
Good, by the way, that I prefered to choose TaN, not SoB - else I could not survive. No, thanks.
Hell Staff... Useless, that's what I say.
Ammo got from sarges packs at 20th levels. Thank you, nameless zombies.
PS: marine was supposed to be named Moon... Well, when you win, you can despite this. :)

Requests For Features / Ironman-based traits

We have a lack of this for now. So, I propose such trait:

Medicine addict
You can take more of it.
Now all small medpacks act for you as small health globes, so you can heal youself over 100%. Same thing with big ones.

With Badass this can make some master trait. Don't know which - maybe, +1 armor for every 50 of current health. We can call it Terminator, heh. MTe.

Well, I started this run with no back thoughts, like the Yet Another Doomguy Run. First levels were hard because of no combat shougun until level 7 or 8; nothing better with armours - only green.
Somewhere near there I also found my phaseshift boots. Add one T-mod... No more knockback for such a good boots! By the way, there were a plenty of mods, something like dozen of them... and even more. Where they all had gone? I modded armors. Why should I keep them? And modded armor is any way better than unmodded.
After the Halls of Carnage I found the second part of set - phaseshift armor! Lava and acid, goodbye! P-mod was the most useful of the mods set that time (A-mod? No, thanks, I'm already fast enough.).
Then was the City of Skulls. One succesful phase out of the crowd, and they're all dead.

During next levels nothing interesting happened, excluding Megasphere smile.
And then was the Judgement day Mortuary. I survived only because of 8 or 9 large medpacks and 3 supercharges (including one on the previous level, heh). First phase was unsuccessful - from centre to centre. But otside of walls. Second threw me to the right part of the map. There is no need to describe the meaty and painfull process of wiping out all enemies. At the end, having near 40% health, I was hoplessly crawling from centre to the left. Imp... Former sarge... Another... Or, maybe, the same? No! It was the last, I feel it! And now, Angelic Armor waits for Angel of Shotty! As a pleasurable bonus, there were also assault shotgun and power mod for it. And 2 unused supercharges plus large medpack.
The 23rd level was the end. Three or four archviles at the centre of little rooms map, with only one little medpack and one little health globe at the right, as map informed me. Exit was on right side too. And I was on the left... First rush to the exit failed, and I tried to phase. Of course, it was to the left. Crap. 7% of health and nothing to heal with... Somehow passing at the lower corridors, I grabbed the medpack and sphere. The end you can see at mortem - running left from the vile, I met that damned baron of hell. 16th A of Destruction.
...If I tried to walk the lava, even running, then I had to die! Well, I died anyway this time.

So, that is my very first gold badge! But I still need one more silver to become Sergeant Major. There's no logic, dammit.

So. Ahem.
My Nameless Doomguy started quite good. Some levels after Arena he got onyx armor.
"Hey, B! Come here. Yes, you! And die! Dah-dah-dah-dah-daiye! Oh. Exotic armor. Perhaps, it was phaseshift one, too weak for gothic... What? Not damaged? Oh, I've forgotten about onyx!.. My precious!"
Woo-hoo! Throw out all these green and blue ones! Same period bulk mod was found, and I set it on double shotty (because after getting Shottyman combat shotgun capacity isn't necessary anymore). And then - plenty of mods! Next was power mod. It was set on onyx armor immediately. Bye-bye for you too, red armors!

Level 9. Grammaton Cleric Beretta. "Why should I need thing that uses these littile bullets? Throw it out!"

Level 10. Onyx Armor Pack! "So what? I've already got unbreakable armor... Well, I'll leave it for gothic or (I wonder) Cybernetic..."

Hell's Armoury: "There is something really valuable here! Maybe, this time it's more useful... A-a-and... Trigun? Pistol again?? 3 pistols versus lonely Jackhammer?!. It's just not fair! Well, at least I can do epic boom."

Then was found second onyx armor and agility mod was added to it. Run'n'shoot, y'know.

Level 15 or 16. Risked a bit, coming to kill some mancubi. But reward was good - nuke!

But it turned to be that medpacks became rare this time. Damn it.

Level 18. "To the west! No, there's A. To the south! Oh no, it's h!.. Well, screw this all. Cutting red wire... Success! Oh, hello, B. And godbye. Let there be bang!.."

At the last second I tried to use Angel Arm, just for fun. But it was too late.

Also, during the run I saw minigun and get Invulnerability at arachno cave. Can't remember when.

Anyway, it was epic.

Now, somewhere in the depths of Phobos Hell, there is empty room, with nothing inside, except of two onyx armors (now black from explosion), Trigun and Onyx Armor Pack at the little cloud of nuclear dust. Requiescat in pace, Nameless.

Requests For Features / Barrel physics

I remember that in original Doom barrels could move. So, we need to add knockback for barrels! If barrel get some damage (not enough to explode) it moves. Else it moves too and then explodes.
Barrels may also have different weight - fuel < acid < napalm.

Also, "All those crazy ideas". I have idea to pull barrels. For example, we have something like this:

#0..
To pull upper barrel to west we should press Ctrl + Num 6, and for lower one - Ctrl + Num 9. Everything is quite simple.
