Requests For Features / Re: Global highscores
« on: October 03, 2008, 20:12 »
Many games keep global highscores despite having pro gamers in their tables... Maybe (if the idea evolved) a similar to eg Audiosurf (account based, one per account per play highscore) system would be adapted with (a bit) different scoring for different play modes - this keeps the best players from occuping all the top places in the ranking.
So it wouldn't look like <pseudo-objective C>1:10 Blade /n (others)</pseudo-objective C> :-P.
Any way to compare the single player results would be cool... It would give the game a quite a good kick and the players a motivation to play more to get better.

Requests For Features / Global highscores
« on: September 30, 2008, 10:53 »
How about putting some kind of global highscores? The players nick+score+type-of-game would be sent to a eg mysql server and for a list of highscores it would be retrieved. The server could keep eg the top100 scores for all game types etc. Mysql queries are quite fast so it wouldn't really be a problem with lags in showing and submitting the scores. Ofc the highscores should be kept separate for all released game versions.
The game is closed-source so far, so the db password could be hardcoded into the game binary and sent over a ssl connection to ensure no one would send false data.
What do you think?

rpgs without levels: (to name a few) Paranoia, Fading Suns, all Tri-Stat dX based games, Call of Cthulhu, all Savage Worlds based games, Neuroshima (very popular game in Poland)... - there are skill points, but no character levels
it would be easier to say that nearly only D&D/d20 based games have character levels, but...
there is more to RPG than D&D :-)

IMHO levels in rpg are stupid - the point of a roleplaying game isn't just to get your character leveled up so much that there isn't anyone more powerfull in the whole universe :-P. Well I guess that's just the curse of D&D cast upon cRPG's ;-P. (in most pen & paper RPG's there are no such things as character levels)

I wouldn't mind an icon in high res in png format, or even better - in svg :-D so I can link it in KDE ;-D

Bug Reports / Re: Issue with linux ver989 on Ubuntu
« on: April 10, 2008, 10:39 »
I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 with KDE (Kubuntu), and the only problem I got is that the music stopped playing after some time, but that might have been my own fault :-P.
try a couple of things:
try running it in a different terminal emulator (e.g. Konsole)
also try deleting all game files and unpack it from the downloaded archive again
look at log.txt in the game irectory after a crash, maybe it will say sth

http://dharkness.info - my own free hosting server ;-) (10 GB transfer per month per account)
only one issue - max 4MB files, so you would have to split the archive (I can't change this cause it's a reseller service)

I just hope that there will be an option to choose if I want gfx or not (I prefer ASCII roguelikes).

I played the boardgame and it's quite different from doomrl or doom for that matter.
