Well, there isn't a BFG10K in Doom 3 either. Only the pistol, shotgun, machinegun, chaingun, rocket launcher, grenades, plasma rifle, BFG9000, and Soul Cube.

Oh, and the Double Shotgun and Hellstone for Resurrection of Evil.

You mean the Skulltag BFG10K? It was essentially an extremely sped up, hitscan rocket launcher. There is no BFG10K in vanilla Doom.

You can try pistol or rapid fire weapons, but that usually means, you have no other weapons or are on some "Angel of... " run.

Note to everyone; IRC has been resurrected! Currently, it's only active for four-six hours, but I'm more often then not, me, Gargulec, ntc, or any combination of the above are on IRC, and this announcement should bring more people in, so just have your IRC client beep a couple times when there's a new IRC message, and idle for as long as your computer allows, because a conversation /will/ start up, whether it be in a couple minutes after you join, or a couple hours. Bring your own Monty Python references. ;P
Also, changes in the DoomRL code will be put onto IRC, so it's also a good way to see when something new has been added, something's been fixed, stuff like that. How is that not good? :D


tl;dr version: COME TO IRC OR I WILL STEAL YOUR KIDNEYS! >:(

Seriously, it took me more AoI deaths to get to dlvl16 than it did AoB deaths >:(

This is a very interesting idea. One thing that jumps out right away is a skilled player that starts a fresh game beats the game on UV or N! on AoWhatever...does that mean they will be able to jump right to General within a few games?
I'd say that you should give him the goodies instantly. You've already earned them; why have some guy go like 'no, suicide in ITYTD 50 more times!'?

What I'm shooting for is a Medium AoMarksmanship victory, so I'll just have to see (and pray for pistol uniques...)
Being the guy who sucks with everything but pistols (I'm not used to the fact that rapidfire builds take a whole turn to fire :P), I can say that AoMR isn't actually that hard. Hell, the only reason I haven't done UV/N! AoMR is because of AoI (I WILL KILL YOU FOR THIS ABOMINATION KORNEL >:( ). I recommend going SoG>SoG>DG>EE>SoG>SoB>SoB>SoB>whatever, because by SoGx3, you're already firing fast enough to kill pretty much anything in your way, and reloading's a bitch in AoMR, so you want to kill them before you run out of bullets, and hit with almost all of your bullets (hence the EE). That's also why magazine mods are UNGODLY AWESOME in AoMR games. Also, pistol uniques are totally optional in AoMR from what I can tell, because I haven't found any, and still come out on top of a dead cybie :D
Time to kill myself again from stairs stuck in lava... :(
