Title: A question I've had for a while now: Is whizkid bugged?
Post by: Cheesybox on December 07, 2014, 23:45
Cause according to the wiki and in-game, whizkid 2 should allow you to mod an assembly and twice now I haven't been able to do so. The first game I thought, "oh, I used 2 powers to make this, guess I can't add another power to it" but in my most recent game I couldn't put anything on a tactical shotgun, even with whizkid 2. Is this a bug or has no one updated the wiki+in-game text to say you can't do that anymore?

You should assemble tactical shotgun after building whizkid 2.

Build Whizkid 2 -> Assemble Tactical Shotgun : Enable to make additional (and indeed, final) assembly

Assemble Tactical Shotgun -> Build Whizkid 2 : NOT Enable to make additional assembly even you have whizkid 2

Ah ok. That seems...unintuitive. No text makes that particularly clear that you have to have whizkid 2 before making the assembly you want to modify

Well, the Wiki is pretty clear about this, both in the trait descrption and on the Assemblies page.
In-game WK description, however, doesn't even say anything about post-assembly modding possibility with WK2.

The restriction is unintuitive as fuck and pretty pointless to boot.
Great reason to keep it in, I gather.

Didn't even know this but have made use of it countless times, just never knew how it actually worked.

To be fair the wiki is not very clear on this subject. Only if you delve deeper into the strategy pages it's explained why Whizkid works the way it does.

Under Traits:
"The second rank of Whizkid additionally allows any assemblies made afterwards to be modded once."

Under Assemblies:
"Assemblies can also be modded in limited circumstances. If the player has the second level of Whizkid before the assembly is finished, they may then add a single mod to that assembled item. "
Which is backwards from the sounds of things.

Psst... Wiki content are user submitted.  So yes, it's possible that there are mistakes.

As a rule of thumb, dev-team and source divers do not edit the Wiki directly due to conflict of interest.
