Requests For Features / Things break too easily
« on: March 31, 2009, 07:28 »
"Hi, I'm Dragonslayer, the ancient, all-powerful, mighty demon killing sword!"

"Hi, I'm red armor, and I can soak up massive amounts of damage when worn by the player! Unfortunately, right now I'm laying on the ground."

"Hi, I'm Megasphere, huge amounts of magical power compressed into tiny space!"

"Hi, I'm a single stupid imp. Here's my little fireball that barely scratches the enemy."

*Puff*

"AUGH! I'M SPLIT IN TWO! I'M DYING!"

"GYAAH, WHY COULDN'T THE PLAYER HAVE PICKED ME UP IN TIME?!"

"I DIDN'T EVEN GET A BADASS EXPLOSION!"

See the point?

Requests For Features / Green? GREEN?!
« on: March 30, 2009, 14:51 »
The standard color for uniques, that is. It's more or less the worst color possible. I'm pretty sure Jackal isn't green.

Some variety would be awesome.

Requests For Features / Stuff about morale and running
« on: March 27, 2009, 23:46 »
I think it makes sense that a little demon might shit its pants and leg it when I slaughter a Baron of Hell. Especially if he's alone. And wounded. Also, the greater the contrast with the one I killed and the one running away, the bigger chance of SQUAD BROKEN. Even bigger chance if you're berserking and running after him with a chainsaw or something like that.

It would also make sense that when hit points go past 100%, you'd have enough energy to keep running indefinitely. It'd increase the decay rate, though, and when HP hits hundred, you'll have to stop.

Speaking of which, there needs to be a trait for running more. Marathon. Requires two points at Hellrunner. Doubles the time you can keep running before getting tired: Once your normal running time is out, it goes back to cautious instead of tired, and you can have another run before really burning out. (When combined with the above suggestion, it'd decrease the decay rate of HP while running.)

As in, no challenges, and no specializing in any specific kind of weapon, in an effort to be prepared to running out of ammo and having to switch on some emergency weapon, or for any kind of an unique that I'll find. Because discovering a Blaster after putting all points on Reloader and Shottyman just makes me feel awkward.

Goes without saying that this shuts out Reloader, Brute, SoaG, and possibly Eagle Eye. But it still leaves a lot of options. So any suggestions?

(If I find something really powerful, I might start specializing, but until that there will be none of that.)

Bug Reports / Getting experience from all kills
« on: April 27, 2008, 02:18 »
This wasn't the case before, I recall. I don't think I should accept the credit of the killing when a former captain guns down an imp by accident. 'Course, flooding the level with acid is another story.

Just pointing out. Not even sure if this is a bug or a feature.

Requests For Features / Gibs
« on: February 07, 2008, 10:05 »
Use rocket launcher on former human, for instance, and it'll be gibbed. Instead of leaving a corpse, it will blow up in a crapload of blood and body parts.

"You see a severed hand."

Obviously, arch-viles can't resurrect gibbed bodies.

Discussion / Can you play as a bad guy?
« on: February 01, 2008, 07:24 »
I can't. There're two reasons for this, and neither of them are "It's just wrong":

1) The black/white-feeling how it's done. Like, bad guys are always child-eating, puppy-smashing, granny-kicking assholes who spit on everyone's face and always get negative reaction from everywhere. I just can't play with that kind of character, not without being sick of my own evilness at least. Hell, I can't even understand why they'd ever be interested in avenging their father or stuff like that, which is what you usually do in RPGs.

Now, if there ever was a possibility to play with a greedy, cheating, manipulating bastard who swindles people from their money without them even noticing, does good deeds just for the reward (while our generic bad guy wouldn't do it at all), and generally seems a nice enough guy to other people, like a nice red apple that's just rotten from the inside - that'd be a different story altogether. I'd love to play with someone like that. Too bad it's just not possible.

2) Good guys always get, not only the nice feeling of doing something that matters (that should be enough for any good guy), but also much much bigger rewards and loads more experience than the evil ones. Maybe it's just being such a generic asshole they always are, but true baddies should get more money than shiny knights by default. It's just how it should go.

Like, let's say you're supposed to deliver some money from one guy to another. The good guy does how he was asked, sure thing. The Generic Bad Guy takes the money for himself, and goes to the NPC to brag about "Ha ha, I'm gonna keep the money myself, and there's nothing you can do about it! Ha ha!", and something negative, such as bad rep and everyone hating you, follows. Meanwhile, all he really gets is just some meaningless little sum of that you can't buy anything useful with, and you'll get so much more money by selling the stuff from any random encounter (known as "Fallout 2 Syndrome").

Meanwhile, the good guy who did as was asked, will get to keep the whole sum for himself for being such a nice guy, and the NPC will give him some Really Powerful Magic Artifact That's Been In Our Family For Generations (tm), and everyone in the game loves the player a bit more.

A baddie I'd like to play would grab some of the money for himself, and then deliver the rest as asked. With luck, the NPC won't notice that some gold is missing.

So if you want the most experience and the best stuff, you'll play with the Innocent Momma's Boy. I want my games for entertainment and escapism, not ethics education, thank you very much.

-- General ---------------------------------------------------

Before him 627 brave souls have ventured into Phobos:
 590 of those were killed.
23 of those were killed by something unknown.
2 didn't read the thermonuclear bomb manual.
And 9 couldn't handle the stress and committed a stupid suicide.

Some rumours though, say that the Cyberdemon was killed already!
Is he immortal? 3 souls claim to have killed him...
2 killed the bastard and survived.
1 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Verily, by level 40 or so, it didn't really go any harder than that. The only problems were Arch-Viles, running out of ammo, and reloading, which seemed to take for an eternity - Blaster was a lifesaver in the last two instances.

Anyway, used shotgun for a while, until found Trigun. Later stumbled upon an advanced pistol, which prompted me to put points in Dualgunner, and which I also loaded full with speed and damage mods. Switched it to Blaster, and that to Grammaton, since the latter was probably my most painful gun with its full-auto fire. By the time I got Jackal, which is pretty awesome gun in itself, I was already an invincible warrior, and only really used it as novelty - though the exploding bullets were fun. Also blew up a few levels with the Angel Arm, if I happened to find an invulnerability globe early (or if I was already invincible).

But why did I only have 15HP? No wonder small health globes were suspiciously effective...

[Edit: Oh my, N is for Nightmare! difficulty, for NTR it's 'M'edium.]

Requests For Features / Unique monsters and bosses
« on: January 15, 2008, 07:29 »
"You feel relatively safe now... But wait... You feel a presence of something powerful!"

Yeah there'd be a chance that once you've cleared the level of all monsters, a boss monster would appear. This'd either be a too powerful monster to be normally generated on that level - such as a cacodemon on level 2 - or specifically named unique fellow. Regardless, once you've beaten your foe, it'd drop something pretty powerful.

Some ideas for unique monsters:

The Butcher: Demon, carries butcher's cleaver (and can use it). Has two levels in Hellrunner and one level in Brute.

Archibald the Undying: Former human, carries blue armor and two advanced pistols. Has three levels in SoaG, two in Dualgunner, and two in TaN. Also has 50% chance of coming back to life immediately after dying.

Hans Grosse: Former captain, has a blue armor and a minigun. One level in SoaB and in Eagle Eye, and three in Ironman.

Bruiser Brothers: Two hell knights, both unarmed and unarmored, but both drop 1-3 random mods. The other has two levels in Eagle Eye and one in Cateye, while the other one has two in Brute and Ironman.

Pain Mother: Pain Elemental, unarmed and unarmored, but drops several random mods and a random advanced weapon. Spawns special kind of lost souls called Hellspawn: They all have three levels in Hellrunner and one in Ironman.

Duke Eresmus: Baron of Hell, has a baron armor, but no weapon. Three levels in both TaN and Hellrunner. Prefers close combat over throwing acid balls.

Spider Mastermind: Always generated in the end of Spider's Lair. Has Jackhammer (and uses it), two levels in SoaB, two in Triggerhappy, three in Hellrunner, and two in Ironman.

If you have other ideas, post them.

Requests For Features / Nerf the captains
« on: January 15, 2008, 02:08 »
I'm pretty certain they weren't half this deadly in earlier versions. And I have no idea how this is possible since the accuracy of rapid-fire weapons was supposed to be reduced.

27
So let's say I have a combat shotgun, and I find advanced combat shotgun (which just happened, actually). When I press 4, it says "You already have combat shotgun in your hands". Well I think, that it should've switched to advanced combat shotgun because it's better than normal. Later, if I ever find one of those unique combat shotguns, I could just press 4 again, and it'd switch.

This is one small yet important change I'd like to be added as soon as possible.

Yeah it still doesn't quite satisfy me, so how 'bout adding a two new levels on it? On second level, if you have a gun in both of your hands, you could reload them both at the same time by using special reload button (R). Put some points on Reloader to enchance this even more. On third level, pressing z will, instead of swapping weapon, fire your secondary weapon without switching it to your hand first.

Hm?
