Requests For Features / Re: Pain Chances - Flinching
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:17 »
Definitely. Who wouldn't wince in pain when they got torched by an Archvile? Also, maybe certain "critical" hits (maximum possible damage inflicted on hit) could have a chance to auto-flinch if the damage is severe enough, as well as knockback; both kinds of pain chance can be implemented for both the DooMguy and the demons alike.

Requests For Features / Pain Chances - Flinching
« on: October 12, 2008, 01:25 »
After playing the normal DooM, I noticed monsters may sometimes flinch when you hit them, interrupting their attacks. Would it become too easy if certain monsters flinch when you either (a) hit them at the right moment, or (b) hit them with a powerful enough attack, or (c) make them flinch when you knock them back?

Perhaps giving certain monsters different criteria and pain chance percentages would help, as well as differing resistances to flinching. Although making it possible to interrupt Arch Viles by flinching them with a nigh-point-blank double shotty blast is definitely tempting.

I... wait, I forgot I could do that! Aargh!

Oh well, I can try that again next time.

(15 times? I played far more than that on a copy of DooMrl I keep on a thumbdrive, since I go places often.)

I think I must have really, really pleased the Random Number God, because he gifted me with so many good Unique pistols and more Large medikits than I could carry. Also, I found a second Advanced Pistol, but ditched that when I found Trigun. I also found a Missile Launcher, but I didn't bring it along with me because I AM an AoMr. Jackal was picked up just before entering the Vaults, so I could crack open the two side vaults, but my gamble with a Phase Device failed, it dumped me in the left vault.

Also, Baron Armor on a normal floor followed by Malek's in the Lava Pits. What are the odds?

I suppose this is the RNG's way of apologizing after so many agonisingly annoying unfair deaths involving knockback into lava, barrels+shottymen behind doors, and surprise Hellknights, He even gifted me with a Godmode orb just before the stairs to Cybie!

Monster Infighting used to make for hilarious scenes back when I played DooM on my now-dead Pentium 1 pc.

You know, DooM-rl would feel more like DooM if monster infighting was correctly implemented. Imagine being sandwiched between a Hell Baron+Arachnotron and a Revenant+a bunch of former Commandos, you successfully run between them and get them to shoot each other, thus getting them to anger teach other and start infighting.

Yay, a Former Doomguy challenge!

Angel of Fallen Heros
You will often face the tortured souls of brave warriors who unsuccessfully tried to cleanse Hell of Evil before. They are well armed and intelligent, and will use what they find against you. Your task is to free them from their suffering as you attempt to do what they couldn't. -more-

This challenge makes use of your post mortems after you have quite a few. Initially, a set of about 16 pre-generated "Fallen Heros" will be generated, with pre-determined levels and random weapons/armor/equipment. They are also represented by the @ sign, which will be discoloured when compared to you. They are constrained by ammo, but are also capable of picking up and changing weapons and armor.

These Fallen will only spawn after "you feel relatively safe..." with the additional remark, "but suddenly, you feel a sense of pity mixed with dread as a shambling figure approaches..."

After you accumulate at least 16 post-mortems of death-files (Victorious marines will not be used!), these mortems will replace the pregenerated Fallen Heros. They will carry up to 6 items chosen at semi-random from their death inventory - 1 weapon + 1 slot of matching ammo, 1 suit of armor (if applicable), and 3 slots of randomly selected items. Beware a Fallen Hero armed with a BFG or a Unique that they held while they died!

The phrase "You feel like the Fallen Hero is finally at peace..." will display when you slay them and put them out of their misery.

The message "He was forced to join the ranks of the Fallen Heros!" will display if you are killed by one of these guys.

7
Angel of Fools - This challenge commemorates April the First - the message "You feel relatively safe now" is no longer a good indicator of you being alone on the level...

25% of the message being accurate.

25% of the time, there will still be a monster or two lurking around. "You feel like a fool for not noticing the straggler(s)."

50% of the time, if the stairs are not in your line of sight, a horde of monsters will be spawned around it; if it is in your line of sight, the stair will have an additional 25% chance of teleporting you a certain distance from the stairs and spawning the horde of nasties around it.
messages:
"Surprise!" You were out of Line-of-sight of the downstair and found it surrounded by nasties.
"He was made a fool! (mortem)" You were killed by the nasties that spawned around the stairs.
"April's Fool has come and gone, you're the fools and I am none!" You killed the nasties around the stairs before going down it.
"You feel foolish for not noticing their presence." You fled down the stairs without killing the surprise nasties.
"You hear maniacal laughter as you are pulled in a non-existing direction." You were in line-of-sight of the stairs, and were forcefully teleported as nasties were spawned.

Derringer
Weapon 'class': Pistol
Base Ammo: 10mm Ammo
Clip size: 6
Ammo consumed per shot: 6
Damage: (Moderate-High)*6
Shot speed: VERY FAST
Reload speed: moderate-slow
Shot Accuracy: Foolproof at point-blank, decreases over distance until unreliable at about 9 paces

Based on a historical singleshooter gun type that survives as a personal defense weapon in this modern age.

Flametongue
Weapon Class: Energy Weapon
Ammo type: Power Cells
Clip size: large
ammo consumption: Greedy (fires several flamelets per shot, each flamelet is made of a lot of cell's worth of power)
Damage: Very high, Shotgun-style - has 'splash' and more devastating up close
Accuracy: very high
Shot Speed: moderate-slow
reload speed: very slow

DooM-rl has yet to see a 'true' flamethrower weapon. Nothing like cremating zombies and toasting demons with their own hellfire before I've had my milo first thing in the morning.

Killjoy the pistol-loving Marine has tried more than 10 times... He has had found the Gramma Cleric and Blaster before in his unsuccessful attempts, but Vash's Gun saved his hide this time.

Although it would have been sort of defeating the purpose, this time killjoy brought a porta-nuke along for Mutually Assured Destruction if he ran out of armor, ammunition, or medkits while fighting the Big Nasty.

SoaB 3+ SoaG 3 = +60% attack speed +6 damage (PER BULLET!), coupled with a beefed Advanced Pistol and Vash's Gun, makes for impressive DPS enough to kill Arachnotrons, Arch-Viles, and even nasty old Cyberdemon.

10mm doesn't dent a (B)aron? You jest, my Marksman Angel known as "killjoy" can gun down Bs with his :v1 Dual Gunner and L3 SoaB.

Personally, I've always resorted to the Shottyman method to kill Bs: Start running around them at short range, emptying Double Shotgun blasts into their hides while you do so.

« on: April 09, 2008, 06:03 »
Gramma Cleric on Semi-Auto with (SoaG Lv3) and (SoaB Lv3) with (Trigger Happy Lv1) does about:

((3 to 24)+3+3) * (3+1)
=
(6 to 30) * (4)
=
about (24 to 120!)

per salvo, I should think. Someone correct me if my calcs are inaccurate, please.

I was able to put something like this to the test in one of my runs in 'normal' difficulty, I can just about gun down an Arachnotron without reloading.
