Modding / Help w/ level generation crashes

so, i've started to put together a module for the first time (the first version of which i *hope* to have released by halloween but ehhhh), but i'm running into issues with randomly generating levels. the first map is an entrance map, upon exiting via the stairs, the game freezes. My module.onGenerate() is simply

which is exactly the same as in the doomrl source, and as far as i can ascertain, should produce no errors whatsoever. I suppose it's correct in that it doesn't actually produce an error, it just freezes the game. Any help appreciated.cheers!

My previous speedruns sort of gave me the idea to do AoRA, I figured the only difference would be that it would be on HNTR.The time limit wasn't too taxing, except in the Armory where I escaped with about thirty seconds left and even then it was nowhere near enough to make me break a sweat.
Found the super shotgun in the Armory, and boy is it a weapon. I could kill a group of demons instantly - and I did so at floor 14.
Almost died on floor 12 - arena of arachnotrons and my super shotgun didn't have the power at range to outdamage them, leading me to use four large medpacks getting into range while being blasted by Barons.
Used a phase at Hellgate and was dumped three floors away from the gate itself. Floor 16 wasn't that interesting, found the second suit of medical armour here, first was on base 9.
Added the railgun to my collection of curios and relics at 18, didn't have a chance to use it.
As I entered floor 19, Touch of Evil began playing. It was appropriate - this was a barrel level (oh joy).
Killed two pain elementals without trouble, then a baron with a little trouble as he was knocking me out of range whenever I reloaded.
I rounded a corner and just as the chorus of Touch of Evil began, I was killed instantly by an imp fireball and three fuel barrels exploding next to me.
All four of my Red Alert runs have been ended by barrels, the first by a sergeant, the second by my own stupidity, the third by a revenant and this is the fourth.
I plan to finish AoRA for my sixth silver badge, which will rank me up.

As I'd been doing a bit too many ITYTD speedruns, I decided to try my hand at something a little more difficult.Namely, Angel of Purity.
My main trait built was to be: Int > Int >Rel > Rel > SM > HR > Fin > Jug > MSh, and then Iro/TaN.
This specific trait build (i.e. a Shottyhead) was to reduce my massive reliance on powerups by keeping enemies out of my vision range.
First few levels went perfectly - got a combat shotgun on Base 7 and then an assault shotgun on Base 8, immediately bulk modding it. This would probably save my arse numerous times, with Shottyman's ability to fully reload the assault shotgun allowing me to cornershoot without any hitches. The very next level would present me with Onyx Armour, which would reduce my reliance on armour shards, and indeed, the luck required to find an armour lever (of which I found FOUR). Hellgate was spent carving a passage to the demons with my rocket launcher, the Bruisers did a lot of damage, forcing me to use my three large medpacks.
It was Hell 1 that I realised I'd done the worst possible thing to do -
Amusingly, it did. Hell 2 was a room full of what sounded like Revs and Viles - undoubtedly the WORST combination you could possibly ask for - in the corner. I took my chance, and searched around, finding two large medpacks and shockwave pack and a phase device.
Hell 3 was possibly the luckiest thing EVER and the worst thing ever when you have no ammo - an arena level. Intuition showed me that there were three enemies next to a lava barrel in the bottom left corner, so I used my rocket launcher to show them what for and escape.
Hell 4 was a rev complex (arse!). Spawned next to two revenants and a shell box. Had I had just ten more cells, I'd have been able to probably kill the two revenants with my BFG and claim the shell box for my own.
Hell 5 put an Arachnotron between me and the Vaults - with no ammo except for rockets and bullets I decided to punch it to death. Spiders evidently can't punch because he hit me a grand total of three times. A unique spawned in the vaults but there was less than zero chance I was getting it with no shells
Hell 6 - stairs were just out of my vision, escaped rather fast.
Hell 7 had me running over acid dodging Mancubus blasts to get to the stairs.
Hell 9 was pretty funny - just look at the map - there was no way in hell I was surviving that. I'm quite glad I died to a revenant rather than an arch-vile because revenants are infinitely cooler.
Overall:
AoP is quite fun, will be trying it more when I can, see if I can win and not forget to pick up every shell I see.
The thing I missed most wasn't berserks or invulnerabilities (but invulns would have helped a load), it was armor shards - I must have tore through six red armours getting through Hell, and more green armours in the base itself.
This game seems to like killing me on the level before Cybie, doesn't it.

A Nightmare! Final Doom speedrun got me pumped for this, as did waking up to Death Cube K's Terror By Night (the most terrifying song you could possibly wake up to).Tried a few AoMC runs, got bored - tried an Ao100 run, killed on level 2 - tried to outdo myself, thinking that a speedrun under my previous time couldn't possibly work.
I was listening to Judas Priest while doing this.
Painkiller had finished when I entered Hell 9, and I had sawed Cybie to death before Rob Halford had begun singing during Between The Hammer And The Anvil.
Painkiller seems somewhat appropriate while you are blazing through hell, ignoring all damage taken. Speaking of damage taken, Untouchable Badge, durrhurr. Wasn't expecting that.
Came closest to dying when I had to use the only medkit I used on this run at Hellgate, chose to ignore the Bruisers (as you do) and head straight for the gate itself.
Also Compet-N Platinum, Heroic Bronze.
Overall thoughts:
Hell freezing during a melee game is absolutely hilarious (SCREW DOORS, I'LL MAKE MY OWN). I think that it was fate that gave me an invulnerability in direct path to the stairs (well, after a few DIY adjustments).
Probably could have cut this game to six minutes and a few seconds if the Cyberdemon hadn't tried to deport me to France with his rocket launcher and its knockback.
I REALLY should start playing proper runs now.

WAIT WAIT WHOA WHOA WHOA STOP FULL WIN WHAT THE HELLThis is even more unexpected than my standard win. It also appears I'd forgotten my objective on this run - to assemble as much as possible - and just returned to my classic Doom procedure i.e. punch things till they explode.
Blademaster was almost a godsend. I spawned on level 23 with the stairs just out of my vision range, with a revenant and an arch-vile blocking it.
Three moves later, both dead and not one health lost. Found my nuke at 14.
Arachnotron cave on 22 gave me a considerable amount of trouble, if only for the amount of times I had to press Enter to skip the messages. They also managed to destroy two pairs of red armour, two greens and a blue.
Invulnerability spawned literally next to the stairs on Hell 9, next to an arch-vile who I promptly taught why fire < piercing chainsaw.
JC seems much easier than the Cyberdemon. I appreciate I'm playing on ITYTD, but the Cyberdemon gave me more trouble last run than JC on this run.
Overall thoughts:
Icarus Minor, Compet-N Silver.
Speedrunner Bronze doesn't really count as my first standard win was on my DoomRL folder on my hard drive, while this is on my USB stick (why I don't just have it on my laptop HD i'll never know).
Melee weapons are ridiculously fun to use.
Piercing chainsaw undoubtedly the most reliable melee weapon outside of the Angel of Death's cutlery implements of choice.
Should probably start doing real runs now.
Beating things to death with ranged weapons counts as ranged kills - that's why there's no Strongman Bronze - must keep this in mind.

Hmm.
Somewhat amuses me that my first standard win would be melee-only AND under twelve minutes.
Anyway, I decided to start a melee game to see how far I'd get. Decided to go Scout to see how good MBm was - amusingly, didn't even get it.
Pacifist ran till CC, at which point I used my berserk to run slightly faster through the base and Hell, only stopping to get more zerk.
Found my nuke on 19 or 20.
I planned to overcharge the BFG on the Cyberdemon, hopefully getting him down to a HP I could kill him at.
Turns out it wasn't needed - He spawned just inside my vision range (or just outside, I forget) and only managed to knock me back once.
I wasn't really going for a speedrun, after I reached Hellgate I thought I'd die as berserk runs out almost immediately after I released the Bruisers.
Overall thoughts:
I was hoping to get a full win, but my invuln ran out a turn after I entered the Arena.
Scout's stairsense bonus (obviously) helped a lot with my time.
Also, I feel new level feelings (hurr durr) don't appear often enough. I've been playing DoomRL a little more than usual and I've only ever encountered frozen floor once and alarm twice.
Questions:
Does wielding a ranged weapon and beating things to death with it count as ranged kills - I've got a save going and I've forgotten to wield my combat knife, resulting in a few pistolwhips.
Also, how do you get internal resistances?

This is so ridiculous I can't believe it.
I did my standard strategy until the CC - i.e. OH GOD RUN RUN RUN RUN, got the chainsaw, started tearing everything up.
Hellgate was a little silly, I was already on 200% health when I realised that large health globes act like zerks on AoB, so I tore through the first wave like a charm. Berserk ran out as I killed the first bruiser, leaving me to use my last large medpack to survive.
I thanked the RNG for not giving me a bloody complex full of mancubi on the UC entrance level, and entered. Went like a dream. I proc'd berserk on the first seven hits I dealt during the demon wave and promptly sent the AoD packing to Timbuktu or wherever the hell he's from.
I decided to to City of Skulls as I'd just got MVm, and thought it would be a novel idea.
It didn't go that well.
I thought that I'd be able to massacre the Lost Souls - forgetting that there are Pain Elementals too - effectively coating me in burning bone while the smug one-eyed bastards stand just inside my vision range and spawn more bloody skulls.
I used the LS' alt-fire to rid myself of my lovely new bone coat, before realising that they'd spawned EVEN BLOODY MORE. There wasn't much chance of me dying, because hundreds of Lost Souls can't really stand up to a really, really irritated Marine, his unbreakable onyx armour and his holy spear when he's healing whenever he hits them.
I had to use three phase devices to get out. Found two nukes on consecutive levels - 21 and 22.
On 23, I accidentally pulled the worst possible lev- hey wait, do you smell that? That gasoline sm- OH GOD THERE'S LAVA EVERYWHERE.
Entered Lava Pits to survive, promptly exited. There was a unique but knowing my luck it was probably the Nano Pack or (god forbid) Medical Powerarmour.
Level 24 was absolutely ridiculous.
Spawned in the corner, speared a mancubus, was ambushed by two barons, killed those. Then, my zerk ran out.
So, I picked up a homing phase, used it.
Only to be ambushed by two spiders that can't walk right and a mancubi.
Killed - literally - instantly.
If only my zerk had lasted two more turns. I'd have survived.
Special notes:
See that room on the left? I never entered that.
That % was another nuke.
To add to the two I already had.
and those six mods were the only mods I found - all of them in Phobos Hell.
I'm off to play Doom 2 again and beat arachnotrons to death with my bare hands.

Well this was a turn.
After watching Game Hunter's Malicious Blades YAFW, I decided to have a go. Because I'm nowhere near as good, I decided to use the Chainsaw. It was going well, hardly ever going into red health until about floor 10, when I spawned in view of about nine demons and two hellknights. Had to use a large medpack, but hey, wasn't that close. A conveniently placed invulnerability globe allowed me to cruise through the Hellgate. The Hellgate was why I intended to keep the AFJ, so I could blow up the walls without being swarmed by lost souls and bitten to death - but it was unneeded. Floor 16 was the first sighting of an Arachnotron. My bulk chainsaw and Brute 2 killed him instantly.
Found the Gothic Armour on Floor 19, decided to wear it. The massive movespeed loss wasn't that noticeable, as I sliced my way through several baron war groups and Revenant hit squads. Floor 22 was somewhat unusual. Spawned near lava, heard loads of Vile sounds. Went to check it out and found a nearby Computer Map. One hacking later, I found some sort of new hell battleplan: a group of formers with Vile medics. The } on the very far right was exotic, so I went to check it out. The Gothic Armour's movespeed loss became apparent now. The two Viles in view were hitting me twice every three times I moved. I used a large medpack, and went back for it. I forgot I had the homing phase - would have been my saviour. Somehow - from 28% health - including the Gothic Armour's 6 protection AND MMB's resistances, the Arch-Vile closest to me hit me once - ONCE - and killed me.
I've got no bloody idea how he did it, so I've come to the conclusion that they're cheating.
I'n going to go play classic Doom and shoot them in the face with the doubleshotgun when they try and flame me. See how they like it.

Is there any way to dodge Mancubi blasts? At all?
Surely this is unfair. A level filled with Mancubi and only Mancubi on a melee game of all games!
Sigh.
Well, after several tries, two deaths at the Hellgate, one involving an embarassing incident with only a cacodemon left, I finally got to floor 16.
"Hurrah!" I thought. "I now have a tiny chance of getting the Longinus Spear! After that it's just plain raging from there on in."
Oh how wrong I was. I came into the level with a few turns of zerk left, only two be confronted with two mancubi staring at me. My marine didn't want to go berserk, which annoyed me, so I had to use three large med packs chasing down one Mancubi, cutting it into little pieces and getting Vampyre - not that it would do any good. I then remembered my medical armor - which despite the hatred it garners from DoomRL veterans, actually saved my life - sure, I was on 2% health by the end of the encounter, but I was alive.
Not for long. I was tenderly opening doors, thinking to myself "I hope I find it right next to a door so it doesn't have a chance to blast me to pieces" - which it didn't, I opened the door at the top, and there was Fatty, waiting for me with his cannons.
I was planning to chainsaw them up, if I had no berserk or no hope of survival (is there even a difference on AoB), I would use up the shockwave pack I was saving for AoD.
Fatty had other plans - mainly to blast me into next bloody year while I tried to close in on him.
Overall thoughts:
I think the early game AoB, for me at least, is simply hoping that sergeants don't spawn where they can shoot you as you sprint for the stairs.
I would want the removal of mancubi complexes for Berserker games, but then where's the fun in a roguelike if it's not totally overpoweringly unfair (see: Iter Vehemens ad Necem)?

Wow.
I can't believe this. I mean, my first ever win would also be my first ever game on 0.9.9.4? Fantastic.
Anyhow - not sure if this is an actual victory, 'cause I died before the bomb exploded - but still the most enjoyable DoomRL game I've ever had.
I'm surprised I didn't die before the Armory, considering I didn't get a combat shotgun until that level - clearing the CC with just a shotgun and a rocket launcher was a first for me :D
Anyway, haul from armory was crap - no unique or exotic items, lab cache was nanofiber armour schematics, a technical pack and a bulk pack. The technical set me on my way for the tactical shotgun - amusingly, before I'd even got the weapon I needed.
Level 13: Shielded Armour GET!
The SA is an unbelievably useful armour - I probably used it for two times longer than the red armours I'd found, modded and then subsequently destroyed - even if the protection is only 2. Halls of Carnage was a surprise for me, I'd not played DoomRL much since I'd missed it on my last game of 0.9.9.3 - and the lava made my heart skip a beat.
It was surprisingly slow, and I was able to carve my way straight to the BFG before bulk modding it.
On level 14, I found an invulnerability globe steps away from the stairs, so I took it and proceeded - spending about half of my time invincible dropping the BFG, picking up a mod, dropping the shotgun, modding the BFG, dropping it, picking the shotgun back up, sorting my armour, modding my armour before deciding to wear the unmoddable Shielded Armor.
I destroyed the first wave with my shotgun, and lost invunerability as the wall exploded.
With Army of the Dead, which I got during that large battle, the Bruisers and their subsequent smaller siblings (yay, alliteration!) were absolute pushovers.
Level 16 amused me. I thought when I saw it "really Kornel, what can icy walls possibly do to change the game?". Spoke too soon. Indiscriminate shots with the combat shotgun opened up spots for Pain Elementals to throw Lost Souls at me - not that it really mattered - my double-shotgun was more than enough to kill six in a single shot (somehow).
Level 18 was my first experience with the choking air-type floor. I was expecting to die searching for the stairs, only to find that they were one square out of my vision.
Can't remember much about levels 19 and 20, other than that I found my nuke there - which would eventually be what lead me to killing Cybie.
The Lava Armor, I thought, would be crap. I only really used it on level 24 - when I stumbled into a cave of Arachnotrons and nearly died - the 50% plasma resistance was a godsend.
It was on 0% health when I saw two armor shards by an Arachnotron, and yelled quite audibly "EAT BFG YOU SPIDER SCUM" and destroying the armor shards. Arse.
At the end of level 24, as I was running away like a coward, I found it rather amusing that there was a missile launcher and a nuclear BFG waiting for me. Oh RNG, you really spoiled me.
Level 25, with the Tower of Babel music (a perfect choice), probably my favourite Doom track after Military Base, surprised me. I thought that the Cyberdemon would be quite easy with my lots of armor, shotgun domination and Army of the Dead. I was wrong. I was consistently hit by rockets, the Cyberdemon only letting up to chamber another. It was only, at 6% health, when I remembered my nuke.
I think my only regrets on this run, were not going to the Mortuary for a quick armor/BFG/Assault Shotgun run and then getting out of there - I had my homing phase all ready, when on either side of the door guarding the Mortuary stairs was a Baron, a Vile, a Revenant and a Mancubus. I had to use my homing phase to escape to the next level.
I also didn't get to use my nuclear plasma rifle, my nuclear BFG or my missile launcher. I also found a Ballistic Shield, but the 0 protection sort of put me off.
Final thoughts:
This run has cemented DoomRL as my favourite roguelike ever ever ever - and one of the best timewasters I've ever tried.

I am posting mortems like they're nothing, huh.
Anyway. This run was quite good. Cleared Hell's Arena (almost got the Key, but was hit once by the last enemy, a cacodemon), didn't go for the CC because every time I try I get torn apart, got to the Armory and saw the unique message.
My first thought: "RNG, you have decided to repay me for the Onyx Pack I didn't use!"
The actual weapon was in the weapon pile guarded by demons. And they should have guarded it better.
The Jackhammer is the single BEST weapon on DoomRL I've ever used (and I haven't used many). The Shambler, who is usually a royal pain in the arse didn't even hit me. The glorious three-round buckshot bursts and ridiculous knockback of the Jackhammer did it all. With MAD, I was a god. Barons couldn't do anything, Revenants couldn't even get close, the only thing that really posed a threat were Arachnotrons if they surprised me. My tactics were: use the tactical shotgun as main, keep Jackhammer in prepared for Barons/anything tougher. That tactic was the best I've ever used. The Hellgate was a cakewalk. The first wave of enemies did three times more damage to me than the Bruisers. The level after the Hellgate was to be the level karma would have its revenge for the demons I had slain.
As soon as I entered the level OH GOD FORMER COMMANDOS OH GOD OH GOD. Three of them right next to my spawn. I chose tactical shotgun over Jackhammer, and that's probably the reason I'm not posting [M|99%|21] right now. Three bursts of plasma later, low health. Also, it turns out that the Jackhammer has some kind of failsafe that stops me abusing the corners that I so love. At almost no health, I decided to homing phase device away!
The stairs were just outside my view range, and I was cut down by a single blast from a sergeant.

Nobody can fathom the rage that is seething within me right now. Well, someone probably can, but it's for effect.
I played normally, focusing on getting Badass, then Shottyman, and (hopefully) getting Army of the Dead.
As is my luck, I was a single level away from AotD when I died. As is per usual.
Hell's Armory was a nightmare. After cleanly killing almost everything without damage, I get hit a single time by an Arachnotron.
Taught him a lesson with my rocket launcher, and then pulled the lever.
Experiences like these are why I hate the Shambler. After hitting it four times with rockets, it teleports away, and laughs at me while it regenerates health while I'm scrambling around looking for it. It then does the same thing four times before I manage to kill it. Stupid Shambler.
Level 13 was the main cause of my rage. After finding the Onyx pack in the lab cache (and assembling the tactical shotty, which, if I say so myself, is a beast with Shottyman), I decided to create Plate Armor. Such was my obsession with finding some red armor that I MISSED THE STAIRS TO THE HALLS OF CARNAGE ARGH GODDAMN I HATE YOU RED ARMOR AAAAAAARGH.

Anyway, on the level of my death, I spawned near a cacodemon and a baron. Killing them both without any damage, I cleared out the room I started in, and proceeded to search for red armor again. I saw a few barrels near a door, and decided to check the room out. I stayed at a 'safe' distance, and saw imps and a baron.
Who proceeded to fire at me, miss and blow up the barrels in my face. The barrels being two fuel and one lava.
Fuck.

I say. This is the furthest I've ever got - on 0.9.9.2 the furthest I'd ever reached was 14. I was unbelievably grateful to find the stairs to Halls of Carnage on 14 - I planned to use the BFG on the Hellgate. Namely, against the Bruisers. However, given that this was the furthest I've ever got, I was a bit panicky and entered the Hellgate with no medpacks. When the first walls came down, I used all of my power cells (and I was surprised I wasn't going through them as fast as when I found the plasma rifle) on the weaklings, finishing them off with a few blasts from my tactical shotgun. I had no power cells, was panicky and then, of course, the Bruisers! I had to run past them into the teleporter, entering the next level with around 30% health. Luckily there was a nearby invuln and a supercharge globe in one of the corners. I then entered the UC, just to see what it was like. I then, obviously, left. Level 17 was a bit unusual. I killed the first baron I saw, then was promptly scorched by an archvile (who I managed to kill with my trusty shotgun), and I got chased round one of the crates by a Baron. I had no spare ammo for the BFG, and unloading my plasma rifle would have took too long (probably), so I took a shot and killed the bugger. Then, I dealt with a cacodemon and ran for cover, before I was melted by a commando.
Arse.
Anyway, overall, this was quite a good run (for me). I did a few assemblies, managed to kill the shambler and entered Phobos Hell.
And if you're wondering why I ran from the arena, I only had a shotgun and was on 7% health by the end of the first round. And I found the Berserker Armor, and was quite pissed when I couldn't wear it.
