Why not have advanced versions of the classes themselves. IE the bonuses from certain traits are hindered and certain ones are buffed up or traits that do not go very well with the class in general could be replaced by newer traits. Have technician turn into Hacker have a trait that adds a new master for shotgun to have all shotgun weapons fire +1/+2/+4 pellets per shot but have a defined range. Have scouts become Recon, with advanced intuition that when looking at monsters you might be able to tell what their next move is (damn that would be hard to program i bet), and have marines become Veteran with regenerative health per say 10 turns 1-3 points of health when not in combat. Might even include a new combat mode for advanced scout like running called stealth where monsters have reduced chance of seeing you and you can attack and get 2x damage from sneak. sorry for the massive diatribe here they stock RedBulls in the fridge at my work.

So i believe the problem exists in a bigger sense, I tried to change any of the .lua files and the changes never seem to take effect. This is a corperate machine with some changes, but in previous builds have been successful in changing the keybindings.lua, config.lua, and music.lua files

i changed the ["M"] to another unused key. In previous versions all I did was change the four buttons from the PgUp, PgDown, etc etc to the same keys. Hmm I wonder if this is due to the graphics mode. I think i might try it in ASCII mode and see if I get the same effects.

I have tried both caps and non caps versions and nothing seems to work. These are the same changes i have made in previous versions of doorml. Attached is my keybindings.lua

SO i change the keybindings HNJM to be the diagonal movement s H(NW), N(SW), J(NE), M(SE). and when I get into the game is does not seem to change the controls. Any suggestions?

inital testing down to level 10 seems stable enough. Have not noticed any crashing. Being on a 10.6 laptop does provide a weird control scheme to get used to (no home,end,pgup,pgdn. Thank you edit keybindings). Sound files have played without issue, all graphics are accounted for. There was one issue in hells arena tho. it took a few taps of the enter key to get the text to show up and monster to load in. only happened once though and will try to repeat to have more occurances. But overall fantastic test build gents, hats off to you!!!
-found issue: after dying in a game, and restarting new game in same running instance. the music does not start from the beginning and once reaches the end does not loop again.

Hey Chaosforge and it's inhabitants,
Awesome that 0.9.9.4 has been released. I see on the frontpage that you have a build for mac thats untested. Usually i would play on Linux or win, but i just happend to have a macbook pro running snow leopard. I used to do QA at EA, activision, THQ, and Konami. So lets get this thing tested!!!!
