Title: New forum - Nice but slow
Post by: jake250 on October 23, 2005, 05:17
Yeah, you can be happy of this! This look a lot better than the last forum. Only problem however is : its slow. Takes 5-10 more seconds to load each pages, which gets anoying quite fast. Hope it won't be like that forever!

Unfortunately I'm afraid that as long as I won't find anyone else to host a database for me it will be slow. Connections are fast -- it's the MySQL requests that are slow :-(.

At least it loads each time...

LOL, you mean, this years trend? :-P. Anyway, I've got a problem when it comes to choosing a domain name. Logically it would be to buy doomrl.org, carceri.net, diablorl.org and genrogue.org... but I don't have the money for 4 adresses. I should pick a name that would be common for all the projects (and others that I plan), but I have no clue :-( (and all anubis.*, charon.* and chaos.* are taken :-( )

fpguru.com ;))

Hmmm... Anubisinc.com? FPValkyrie.com? RLforge.com?

Hmm, rlforge.net wouldn't be so bad. But I'm planning other stuff than just roguelikes in the near future ;-). I thought about chaos-dev.net or org... but I can't decide on wether www.chaos-dev.net looks good or bad :-/. Then we would have doomrl.chaos-dev.net ;-).

Anubisforge.com then :).

Personally, I dislike "-" in hyperlinks... it slows down typing and hardens remembering... But it looks better, yes. Chaos-dev.net isn't a bad option; it sounds good :)).

I was having this problem too with my database.  I mentioned it to my provider, they did some sort of thing, and then it was super fast.

So if you haven't brought this up with your provider I recommend it.

Well, my provider is a computer in my friends room -- and considering that that friend won the 5th place (Sliver Medal) in World ACM Programming Competition in Shanghai I'm sure he's done all he can to configure his server to be as fast as possible :-/
