Someone said I will have troubles during AoMr? Well, not very much!
That was harder than my melee run(17 tries compared to 8), but easier than my first HNTR win ever(34 tries compared to 17). So, it's far not that hard. Even the revenants weren't that much of a problem.
Altho, for the E3M7 and Dis, I've encountered the worst problem I could ever encounter in the whole game... AMMO LACKAGE.
No, seriously, thats awful. The latter levels don't hold any bullets AT ALL. I haven't found any for several levels, holding purely on ammo chains I gathered from Phobos and Deimos(and 5 stacks 100 bullets each). That was pretty much the only reason I just nuked mastermind without trying to kill it by conventional means(or eathing the lava element and fighting JC).

Welp.

Also, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. 99%. Could that be caused by the fact that I nuked the mastermind? Because I don't remember exiting any level without "feeling myself relatively safe" before.

Also, is it just me or my generic YAVP has MUCH more self-saves than a generic YAVP of a generic guy around?

EDIT: god, I just noticed that I had a BFG9000 in inventory. What it did there providing I couldn't use it? Talisman? lol

I'm guessing the decision to not use Lava Element was deliberate due to lack of ammo?

Also, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. 99%.

I see these way too often in 0.9.9.6 mortems, could it be a bug?

As said earlier. I would probably dare to smack thecrap out of JC, providing that his shots are actually far more dodgeable than Mastermind ones, but as you could probably see, I only had 20 bullets and a shockwave pack. Dunno if that's enough, but I am almost sure that it isn't.
So I just nuked the world.

He saved himself 27 times.

WTF? That's a lot of saves.

Are theese savegames? If so, yes, I tend to save myself very often, since my computer tends to give out a BSOD randomly for no reason. So I generated a habit of saving almost each level to ensure that I have a backup in case my computer decides to mess me up.

Also, a protection against ultimately stupid deaths like "pressed Left key while lavawalking too much times and couldn't stop when envirosuit ran out". Happens really often in Lava pits.

Hmm... maybe I should do that as well. I've managed to remove the flash I was playing from during the game several times now, once ruining a promising Ao100 run.

Savescumming.

This is a part of a game. Some people have problems with lava, others have problems with Hell Arena, Mortuary, or w/e.

I know.
I do not savescum unless I die due to REALLY stupid reason, like mentioned above, or something like a mancubus coming out of nothingness and one hit killing me at 100% health without even giving me a turn to react. Or unless I am frustrated really badly.
I take permadeath as a part of roguelikes. It adds a bit of gamble(should I dare to clear the mortuary?), proves some kind of "determination test", and makes me fear things BADLY. I like fearing things badly.
But I still keep a backup save in case of a major messup.

In other words, you do not savescum unless you savescum :P .

And personally I am frustrated almost always - but that not an excuse, dammit.

I do savescum when I savescum, but the problem is, I do not savescum. At least when I savescum.

Well, "really badly" means the state when I am about to break my keyboard with my knee, and since I managed to break a KNEE instead of a keyboard once, that rarely happens. Still, as I am currently in transition from HNTR to HMP, so I am pretty close. Managed to hold myself from it... YET.

If you want to scum go ahead just don't expect to be able to brag about the wins when you do without someone calling you on it.

Why not try playing a game with no saves whatsoever?
Title: Re: [M|99%|YAVP|AoMr] AAAGRH AMMO

Because I don't want it to be ruined by a random BSOD.
Thrust me, it will come out of nothingness if I even dare. That will happen exactly when mastermind/JC will be almost dead.
Technically, I do not recover saves if I get killed by enemies, I just keep one in case my computer decides to explode. And as a talisman(lol).

But random pointless losses to crashes are fun~

Not for me. I like being punshied for my own mistakes, but not for my computer deciding to crash all of a sudden.

Computers do not "randomly" crash.  "Random" crashes often means that some part of the operating system is unstable, and that means that some device or device driver is not working as well as it was supposed to be.

Instead of solving the symptom (by savescumming), maybe it is better to go back to the machine and look for the actual cause and fix that.  I'm sure that DoomRL is not the only program that faces random BSODs.

As someone who has a laptop that overheats and shuts down when I leave it running for an extended period of time, I can say it's very frustrating to lose a good run.  But I hardly ever save my game, so I don't have any saves to backup most of the time.

My hint:
Clear your ventilation ducts, get rid of aliens (bugs), they say.

One of my mates who I introduced DoomRL to actually savescums SO MUCH that he created a batch file to backup and restore his save files.

Computers DO randomly crash.
But you are pretty right, the thing is that my machine is shit. I ventilate the thing almost every day, but my coolant fan is about to die. While it still seems to be sufficient normally, I used to speed up my processors often when I wanted to play some CPU eating games - now I won't even dare, since it's a sure death for it. Moreover, my bro thinks that some of my hardware works not really like it should - he failed to identify where exactly is the bug, but he said that it is pretty much why I keep getting random BSODs. Seeing that the whole thing is shitty enough, I decided to just scrap this computer and buy a new one.

But the problem is that I am a poor man.
One of my mates who I introduced DoomRL to actually savescums SO MUCH that he created a batch file to backup and restore his save files.
Meh. Should do that too.

What shouldyour mate try next is to learn how to save/load in the middle of the game. Since the game cannot do that itself(yet), he will have to go the way of messing up with DooM RL memory. Like, dump the whole memory in a text file and when the need arises swap the current memory with what you got in that text file. I doubt he will actually succeed(I actually doubt that I will), but if he will, I will personally award him with a Savescummer badge, lol.

Open your laptop and clear the dust thats gathered near vent pipes. Check out the connection(s) between CPU / GPU and radiator(s).

Coolant fan may be the best one, but it won't help if you have your pipes bugged.
