Discussion / Re: Let's talk about UV
« on: April 04, 2012, 13:19 »
UV has an insane amount of ennemies in a level in comparaison to lower difficulties, running into unexplored parts of the map makes often a situation way worse than it was initially.

From the start of the level :
I would have trying to profit a maximum of my free 3 actions to take out the HK/Imps with Shotgun followed by chaingun. Then put run on, emptying rest of chaingun, while dodging in direction of the health globe. Should have worked, question is : wouldn't the HK from right room open door/go throught the blasted door and join the party...

Deaths by level 3 are probably over 80% of the deaths of any player that tackles UV.

This post is work in progress, i'll add more to it later.

1. Something that bugs me for a while is... the backpack.
Why is it considered as a powerup ? Makes it unusable in AoP. Why not change it as an item, that apply it's effects on pickup.
I'd also love to see it in Ao100 as a new unique, for easier ammo stacking. Would be awesome if coded so it can only randomly drop during Ao100, or if that's not possible with a minDLevel so it can't appear in a normal game.

2. With the recent changes to the game, i see that some new mod packs could fit in :
* exotic resistance mod for armor : adding 25% to all resists, probably at a cost for general protection.
* exotic mod that let's a weapon deal piercing damage, i guess this one shouldn't be allowed along other mods, would get OP very quickly.

more later, when i get more ideas ;-)

4 vaults, that's pretty lucky !

19
Let's assume HNTR, that gives us 43 Souls and 5 Pain Elemental if the wiki is still correct and a tactical shotgun, THE shotgun to carry around.

At 5 shells per elemental, we will use 25. The souls an elemental spawns are mostly killed during a shotgun blast, but let's say each elemental manages to still spawn 3 souls we have to deal with.

43 souls + 15 = 58. That's another 58 shells at 1 per soul, this is calculated veryyyyyyyyyy large here.

Thus 58 + 25 = 83 shells used.

If my memory is good there are 7 or 8 stacks of shells in the level  7 * 8 = 56.

For a net loss of 27 shells before the agony elemental spawns.

It's clearly not as bad ammo wise as you make it sound, if planning on use shotguns at all, 2 stacks should be caried at all times imo. And it's not like there aren't power cells either. The level is very easy unless on AoMr, AoB can be tricky as well as some other angels.

0.9.9.6 / Re: [M|AoMr|94%|YAVP] Sharpshooter is kinda scary
« on: March 19, 2012, 05:45 »
Yeah the souls now are scarry.

I'm wondering if it is worth it on a pistol-only run to assemble a plasma dealing pistol, just for souls and revenants... I really can't decide if (assuming one has the mods) the mods wouldn't be better spend elsewhere.

Requests For Features / Re: Small change request for Juggler
« on: March 18, 2012, 14:29 »
Completly agree, it's pretty annoying having cool stuff and somehow wishing to have crappier one instead... when you would need to juggle that Missile Launcher or Assault Shortgun but can't.

Tbh Juggler should get the Badass treatment and get split in 2 ranks :

* rank 1 : insta-swap to prepared wep, autouse of melee in prepared slot.

*rank 2 : quickened access (not instant, around 0.1 to 0.5 s) to any weapon in inventory.

Would have the double advantage to nerf the overpowered part of Juggler, while also making it work a lot more logically.

22
Actually if going for a vampire build with Juggler Detour it is wiser to get Bersecker first, Badass may seem nice for the Arena Supercharge but it's only temporary extra health and later dependant on luck, at that stage the knockback isn't yet a big problem. Triggering berseck with the chainsaw on the lost souls is very likely, which makes the whole thing survivable even while doing major tactical mistakes.

1 showed that it can outsmart hell itself.

Decided to tackle this with shotguns/melee as i'm not a fan of Ammochain... Besides early game play the same in both builds, late game way more options with Vampyre.

Hells Armory gifted me with a Nano Pack, planned on maybe going whizkid and build some awesome boots.
Said "Hey, a BFG with regenerating ammo would be great too" so made that instead after Halls of Carnage. That thing *IS* great. Garbaged my shotgun around level 20 or so.
Picked up the lava element in the Lava Pits to get the Mastermind's Medal, that plan worked fine : spot her, wait around corner, 2 BFG shots, use element when 1 tile away and hit when SHE closed by.

It actually says that i missed 1 ennemy and i'm sure that i didn't... I don't remember pulling any summon lever or so.

Check the last line of the messages part of the mortem... WTH ! Mastermind drops envirosuit and DOOMGUY picks it up ?

« on: March 16, 2012, 05:23 »
Ammo definately needs a rework :

Floor spawns are virtually useless for 10mm and Shells early game due to Formers filling all your needs, late game they basically become pretty rare cause of cells and rockets.
Which makes the doomguy dependant on formers spawning during the later levels. Or early stocking up...

I'd like to see DoomRl be closer to Doom when it comes to the provenance of the ammo we use.
The Basic Former : 12 bullets
Sergeant : 8 shells
Captain : 40 bullets
Commando : Fine as is

Floor drops a bit more common for basic ammo (especially late game) : 40-50 bullets, 24-30 shells.

I manage to do it even after double checking which stairs lead where... lol

Dicking around as a survivalist at 48% health P-Modded Red Armor on AoHu trying to dodge a cacodemon... Only as the mortem shows up you realise how little health this actually was.

Meh Technician is allready OP as it is.

Would more fit as a scout special power, which still would leave it as the worse class...

Not using a medpack this turn cause it's unlikely i die (but possible). 20 HP 2 Armor and 25% Fire resist against cybby mortally wounded, well it's unlikely his rocket kills me... And i have a full clip with Sharpshooter to finish him.... = YASD

Allways going for 100% kills cause its cool.

Reloading the chaingun after every former kill (and getting shot by his friend that came out of the dark)

With Ao100 in mind (where past a certain point, the lack of ennemy abilities make the game way too long) some monster ideas.

I had an acid beast in mind too, but slightly different :

Appearance:   mhhh no idea
Health:   50
Armor:   0
Accuracy:   +0 melee, +4 ranged
Melee Damage:   acid 1d3 + 3
Projectile Damage:   split acid 2d3 + 1
Speed:   110%
Standard Depth:   20-60
Experience Value:   no idea here
Inventory:   none
AI habits:   Uses items:   no
Uses doors:   no
Attack %:   60%
Special abilities: The acid attacks of this monster WILL also damage boots. Deals 1d3 acid splash around it when hurt (thus damages you if attacking in melee range), leaves pools of acid instead of blood.
Ingame description:   "Shhhhhhhit ! I hope they don't have a lava version"
Comments/special: Acid immune of course

The Soul collector

Appearance:   s (blue)
Health:   20
Armor:   0
Accuracy:   +4 melee
Melee Damage:   2d3+1
Projectile Damage:   None
Speed:   220%
Standard Depth:   25-100
Experience Value:
Inventory:   None
AI habits:   Uses items:   No
Uses doors:   No
Attack %: 100%
Special abilities: collects souls (anything that dies on the level gives the monster +1 HP), has 50% resistance to all damage but bullet/shrapnel
Ingame description:   Quick, flying, blue fiery skull. These are the souls lost in hell, these also would like collecting yours.
Comments/special:   Leaves no corpse on death. Will run through any fluid to reach the player.

Hellephant

Appearance:   E
Health:   100
Armor:   4
Accuracy:   +3 melee, +3 ranged
Melee Damage:   4d5
Projectile Damage:   2d5
Speed:   100%
Standard Depth:   40-100
Experience Value:
Inventory:   None
AI habits:   Uses items:   No

Attack %:   N/A
Special abilities: Will try to reach you to trample you, meanwhile the imp on his back will still shoot fireballs as usually
Ingame description: A hellish looking elephant with an imp on it's back, seems they have tanks too in Hell.
Comments/special: Can walk throught acid/lava unharmed
