Title: Jupiter Hell Teaser Trailer, coming to Kickstarter November 15th!
Post by: Kornel Kisielewicz on November 07, 2016, 12:21
The time is approaching... Jupiter Hell will be making its way to Kickstarter on November 15th. And to celebrate this announcement we're releasing a new teaser trailer:

Here you can finally see some snippets of Jupiter Hell gameplay in action, hear some of the glorious metal soundtrack being composed for the game, and also treat your ears to the growling tones of Mark Meer (Commander Shepard of Mass Effect) who will be voicing the marine in Jupiter Hell!

So I'm assuming you can turn the Permadeath option off, right?

Interesting choice of voicing the Marine! Voice actor seems a solid selection, I'll be looking forward to seeing how you're going to use that to expand the story/effect of the game.

Also, I'm super glad this is finally happening. The only other video in the ChaosForge YouTube channel is the JupiterHell teaser, and that was over three years ago. Well done!

So are we! I just hope enough of the Old Guard will appear on day one of the Kickstarter, otherwise this will become a very short flash instead of a new rising sun :(. I wonder where the DoomRL players are, for the forum seems like a ghost town nowdays :(

Don't worry, Kornel. I believe lots of players are just lurking here and there, and they will heed your call once it comes.

If only we could recruit the spam mafia to donate a dollar each too...

But yeah, everyone's lurking here and there.

Obviously not representative of the entire population of [relative] newbies, but I'm pretty sure there's more continuing interest in DoomRL (and ChaosForge in general) than forum activity suggests. Small number of us in over here in South Aus are super hyped for Jupiter Hell.

5K views in a few days doesn't look too bad to me.  At least, it proves that not everyone is permadead :p

But yeah, one of my fears, a few years ago, was that if it ever existed, I would probably miss the kickstarter the day it would be announced, since checking the forums twice a year was quite random in term of reactivity.

I am here... watching... waiting.

I might be one of the 'old guard' that was away, but DoomRL still remains one of my favourite ever videogames, and I often come back to it.

I can't *wait* for jupiter hell. I'm biting my nails worrying about whether it will have some implementation of corner shooting or some other form of _hard_ cover mechanic, since that's what makes doomrl so beautifully 'chesslike' for me. :)

Sylph, I am pretty sure you'll be able to throw in your feedback and ideas on that :)

Also, 24 hours left, follow the countdown at :

http://jupiterhell.com

And for anyone willing to pledge, remember that a 1st day pledge is worth twice as much for us, while a 1st hour pledge probably somewhere around 5 times :)

I totally love the game already and trust your experience!
I totally will back and share the news.

Bad thing is that I don't like some things about the video.
Maybe I'm just annoying. Especially, 6 hours before launch.
But, having participated a little in launching Kickstarter campaigns, I would say...

* For a good Kickstarter, video indeed is the most important thing.
* First 6 seconds spent for just the logo? Seriously? There must be an attention grabber in the first! You're losing an too big percent of the audience here.
* The same - about the name at 0:13-0:19. Leave it to the very end.
* It looks like "permadeath" is the only good thing to say about the game. Really? If it's anywhere near DoomRL or AliensRL, there are so many more things to say. Spam with usual "321 uniques, 9.5 classes, 987 character development paths, rich story (whether it's there or not)", show more combat, show inventory screens, show BOSSES.
* Really, show some action in the first 7 seconds. Maybe just a hint, half a second, but clearly visible.
* Really, show a boss. Big is impressive. Maybe even from DoomRL, I know.
* The 3 earlier posters are awesome. Hope they will appear in the campaign.
* I'l try to back in the first hour, but... er... 1:00 AM? No promises.

Sorry for the late comment.

I already replied to you by mail (see? it did go through moderation! O.o), but I'll in shortly summarize my response:

1) this is a teaser, not the KS video itself - we didn't want to show too much too long scenes, because our asset count is limited
2) asset count is limited, what you see is actually one fulltime year of a single 3d artist. Many people assume we have a big team... we don't.
3) we cannot show things that we do not have.

And yeah, these comments are way too late :)
Still, thanks for believing in us!

Yeah, the timer was busted, I did a emergency surgery on it in the middle of the night -_-

I literally cannot sleep tonight... since the timing is at when I'm supposed to be sleeping.

Well, at least one comment was useful. 13 minutes to go. Holding my breath...

...backed and shared with a personal message to a selected ones.

I believe, there should be a big green Kickstarter link on the frontpage.

Two hours in, and you're at 15% of your Kickstarter goal.
Guess I was right ;).

Hope that will be enough.

The 1st day is (almost) always the most popular. I believe, the first three days must collect more than 50% of the goal in order for the project to succeed.
My concern is that the most part of the amount is thanks to Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Lords of Chaos supporters, and I believe that resource is almost exhausted.
I would already be thinking about a marketing campaign to whip up the funding.

There's a lot of captivating reading on Kickstarter fundraising: https://www.google.com/search?q=kickstarter+funding+curve&oq

Really? I read that you get a surge of donations near the end of a drive as well!
The article I read (from kickstarter's research team) was that you typically get 5% of your total funding in the first day.

Not always: https://www.funded.today/blog/the-myth-of-the-kickstarter-spike-at-the-end
Sometimes there is a spike at the end, sometimes there is not. And it doesn't happen by itself, one needs a good amount of marketing work.
I'm probably overly pessimistic, but you know, when starting things this big - better safe than sorry :)
