Title: [U| AoMr | 100% | YAAM] Marksman Plat - it's easy after floor 2!

This took me 20 attempts.  18 of them ended on floor 2 (some in Arena, but mostly not).  One in CC+ (walked into a captain while retreating from Baron post-Master).

I chose Scout with a die roll, and went for Gun Kata.  I remember always liking waiting the extra level to get more SoG rather than beelining for MGK.  Back and forth on Dualgunner at XL 3 or 4, though - this time took it at 4.  I didn't see much point in trying to fit WK in, just took some Iro/Rel/EE and the last SoGs when available.  Intuition also seemed reasonable but I didn't take it here.

I tried to save a Berserk pack in CC+, but that didn't work out - a Baron splatted it.  Early mods led me towards HP + speedloaders.  I like that combination, do a bunch of damage fast but speedload to keep shooting.  For Phobos Lab I had enough speed to lure the nightmare demons out, then close a door and wait.  Phobos Anomaly went awfully.  I let too many demons into the start room and they ate my tac armour while I tried to get from globe to globe.  Finished with 2 medpack I think.

Hell's Armoury was a bit scary - traded an envirosuit for the supercharge after I got plasmaed by a commando.  But the gun room had a combat pistol!  Shambler was easy enough with Dodgemaster, fought in the open on the right.  Wore plasma shield just in case, got hit once.  Rewards included nano pack!  Put it on red armour, and got P mod soon after for Power armour.  The combat pistol became high-powered as well.  That thing tore through Deimos very nicely.  Babel was no problem, just fight in the open and watch the reloads.

Two Hell levels had unholy atmosphere, between envirosuits and supercharge they were not much of an issue.  Limbo felt very tempting but since I had had such trouble passing level 2 I didn't want to risk it.  Some later level produced another combat pistol; I didn't have mods saved so it only got powered once.  Lava Armour/Enviroboots could have been good but I was happier with power Red + fireproof plasteel.  Lava Pits got nuked thanks to an invuln; unfortunately I did not use the element to get a flawless Mastermind kill.

Well played - pistol games can be a lot of fun, but I agree that the hardest part is getting them started, perhaps more so than any other common build, simply because of how inherently weak pistols are before you have the necessary skills built, and because of the loss of tactical options that shotguns, rockets, etc. provide.

I'm probably extremely rusty, so I might be forgetting something obvious, but is there a reason you insisted on so many of the earlier special levels, other than simple experience? Seems to me those would add significantly to the starting difficulty of the run, although perhaps the predictability makes them worthwhile for the boost to your build, allowing earlier access to skills in terms of non-special levels than you'd otherwise have.

Yeah, they're predictable so if I think I can do a special level, I will.  The experience and items are very valuable, and hopefully they enable you to recover the health/meds spent over the next few levels.  Arena is kind of tough but I've had so much practice at it (still splat sometimes by exploring into a caco mostly).  Phobos Lab requires some consideration, for the nightmares (ambush and otherwise), could see skipping.  Armory is always worth doing, Carnage probably could be skipped when going for 100% kills (but a spare envirosuit will take care of the worst bit, at the end).

I see I didn't mention my thought process for Vaults - again brought the Staff most of the way but when it came down to it opening all vaults at once to the Viles and friends didn't seem so good.  If I'd had a way to break the side vaults first, I would have done it.

N! would change this calculus but I never did have much success at that level.

Nice win!  :D  Sharpshooter has a reputation as the best pistol master trait, but Gun Kata will always have a place in my heart for the Equilibrium connection.  :)

Limbo felt very tempting...

I admit that I have a hard time imagining Limbo being tempting in an AoMr game.  :P  I mean I did it once, (https://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,7015.0.html) but it was really rough, and I wouldn't have survived, if not for the Nanomachic pistol.  With your build and equipment, I think you made the right choice in staying out of there.
