Title: Melee builds in UV tips.
Post by: Amatsu on September 02, 2014, 08:19
What skills and at what order do you raise them? Also when do you start to actually meleeing stuff? I have been playing Scout with INT+2 and I still get schooled at the chained court.

I'm rusty with melee, and our resident High Priest is indisposed at the moment.  But from what I remember, Bru is practically the most important skill for melee folks.  On HMP+, the AI exploitation technique of gift-dropping is supposed to be invaluable as it allows the enemy to walk into melee range without actually costing DoomGuy precious HP in moving in.

As far as hybrid melee (not AoB) runs, I would suppose that there are two ways of going about it.  Pistol/chaingun/plasma rifle to chip the HP down from afar before meleeing it, being careful to avoid knockback, or just use superior speed (think MBm or some kind of speed-boosting equipment/skill) to enter into the fray.

If you are using 2xInt for a melee build, I think you just lost too much DPS to do thwack anything for that clev.

Int 2 in melee build? Come on.

You must start with Brute->Berserker first. Berserker trait is a must (except for Malicious Blade trait for Technicians)

Vampyre: Bru->Bru->Ber->Bru->Bad->Vampyre->TaN->TaN->Fin or whatever you want

Blademaster: Bru->Bru->Ber->HR->HR->Bru->Blademaster->Fin or whatever you want

Malicious Blades: HR->Bru->HR->Bru->DM->Fin->Malicious Blades
(Malicious Blades BLOCKS Berserker trait)

Don't go Eagle Eye for melee build, it is useless once you got Bru 3+.

And if you want fist-only challenges, go Brute 3 first before Berserk trait.

I may have been playing melee wrong. I usually don't melee dudes until I get the chainsaw.

In a hybrid game that's correct - the combat knife is far worse than a basic shotgun even if you have levels in Brute. The point of playing a hybrid game is that melee is very powerful in the late game and can be better for clearing out later special levels and boss fights than chainfiring weapons or shotguns. In that case you can leave Brute until about level 4 or 5 so that you definitely have Berserker by the unholy cathedral.

However, if you're playing Angel of Berserk and are forced to use only melee weapons then you need to get brute first or you'll never kill anything.

What is a hybrid game?

It means you're playing a melee-oriented build with use of other weapons outside of AoB restrictions.

Is Juggler a great option for a melee build?
