Fathima listened intently to the two as they went back and forth.  She had nothing to say, really, as it was all before her time, but she thought of the destruction she had caused in her previous "career", and reflected.  No, I don't think I'm proud of what I've done...

Gun Spirit (Master Trait)
Requires: Son of a Gun 3, Son of a Bitch 3
Blocks: Finesse, Reloader, Dualgunner (keep in mind no dualgunner is a huge hit!)

Makes pistol rounds act like railgun shots (penetrate targets to hit enemies beyond the first in the line of fire), and knockback as if damage was 3 points higher (without an additional damage bonus).

Having put all one's focus into communion with the gun, one can imbue the bullets with a piece of your will, allowing them to move with unnatural force.  But to preserve this union, no distractions can be allowed to interfere.  No other guns (dualgunner), no other tricks (fast firing Finesse, fast reloading Reloader).

'Bob' desperately dug into the food, eating as quickly as he could, and chugged the juice.  When he had finally consumed his fill, he looked up at the group.  "Um, I don't think anything else is wrong with me, yet.  I was lucky this room was well sealed against those...monsters!"

Fathima let the trooper check her over; she hoped she didn't catch whatever was out there, but was on her guard whenever he was examining her face.

Immediately as the rebel dropped her holdout blaster, Fathima grabbed the fallen weapon.  "How did you get that?" she exclaimed, and made a show of patting her pockets, as if she was surprised it was missing.  She continued.  "Never mind.  Trooper, it's definitely not the time to think about sides in the war out there if we want to survive.  An extra pair of eyes and set of hands will probably make a major difference in this hostile environment, and if his claims of being a merchant is true, his skills will come in handy if we meet others and we barter for what we need, especially since we didn't bring many valuable goods with us.  So I think it's best for you to treat him.  You need to survive to complete your mission, right?  My droid back at the shuttle also has another 5 doses we can replenish from when we get back, in any case.  We should also build a shelter to wait out the rains the best we can."

Slick win.  Too bad about those two enemies, though.  Sneaky little buggers escaped your wrath somewhere.

An amazingly useful combination of uniques.  I'm jealous!  Keep kicking ass!

Aleena and Josh headed to the pilot's lounge, where they found a few other pilots relaxing.  As Aleena reached out with her natural friendliness to the others, the entire group came together and held a rather engaging and open conversation that lasted several hours.  They shared jokes, discussed serious matters, and even some of their hopes and dreams.  Although Josh didn't speak up much in the crowd, he felt that he came to know some of his fellow pilots better:

Aleena Rion, a very friendly human female from Toprawa who didn't rate her own piloting skills highly, but was proud of her history with the Antarian Rangers, but also sad at their demise.  Tomibar, a Mon Calamari male who had joined the Alliance with many of his race when they rose up against the Empire.  Fen Lo, a rather brash male human from Trantor who had once been a glitterstim smuggler, but had a drastic change of heart as his younger brother became addicted.  There were also two pilots from Silhouette Squadron, Sullustan siblings.  The brother, Bilr Temb, was not only a natural at piloting, but also at astronavigation, and loved to play practical jokes, while the sister, Mirl Temb, was more quiet, and enjoyed painting exquisite landscapes when she had time.

They continued to talk until the call for dinner appeared on their datapads, when they went their separate ways, perhaps to freshen up or take a break alone in the half hour that remained before the meal.

The lady whose ass Tavel pinched gave a little shriek and looked around, but couldn't identify her assailant, and after a brief pause, shrugged and went on her way.

Tavel did his best to look inconspicuous as he eavesdropped on the general and the other lady.  "...the briefing room from 800 hours to 900 hours, and the starfighter simulators from 0900 hours to 1000 hours," the general was saying.

The lady replied casually, "Right, I've got this room from 9 to 10, and the sims from 10 to 11.

"Then it is agreed," came the reply.  His voice was always serious.

"Oh by the way, Bethu, have you looked over your pilot sheets?"

"I have looked over the dossiers on my pilots, yes.  Was there something of interest about them?"

Her voice became sassy, "Well I've been looking over my group and I think my guys are going to kick all of your asses!"

"Tammy, I'm glad you have confidence in your squadron's pilots even before even seeing them fly, but is this necessary?"

"Rut-roh!  The General Chicken doesn't seem to have any confidence in his..."

By then, almost everyone else had left the room, so Tavel felt he could listen no longer without attracting suspicion from the conversing pair.  He left and began to wander through the corridors of the ship, searching for something.  After quite some time, he found what he was looking for while in one of the hallways leading to the port hangar bay:  an unoccupied terminal, with no one else around.  But as he approached the terminal, his datapad buzzed with the arrival of two new messages.  The first was just a notice that dinner would be at the pilot's mess in half an hour.  The other was was interesting, though:

"Lieutenant Darjin,

I noticed that your dossier includes considerable slicing experience.  Although you are a member of Penumbra Squadron and not my computing crew, I would like to speak with you sometime, if it is convenient.  I'll be in the Computer Labs for most of the evening, if you are free.

- Chief Comp Supervisor Jordan Gmesh"

Ios relaxed as the effects of the mild spice coursed through her body. Surprisingly, no one ever came in, despite the fact that most rooms in the pilots' quarters were designed for four pilots each.  At some point in time she did hear footsteps nearby - but whoever it was entered the next room down.  After a long time, she heard a beep on her datapad - dinner at the pilots' mess was in half an hour.

Fathima sighed at the new information, then spoke, "C'mon, rebel - time to pull your weight."  When he seemed reluctant to follow her, she grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him back to the shuttle to the cargo hold, away from the others.  Though one would not expect such a small lady to have the strength to drag someone around, she was well versed in the location of pressure points and knew how to use them.

The two disappeared back into the shuttle, then re-emerged moments later, the rebel now also carrying a much larger backpack.  Fathima pulled out a fancy-looking canteen and held it out in the air for a few moments, then unscrewed the top and looked inside.  She smiled when she found that it was functioning the way it was designed, probably for the first time since this whole adventure began.

Requests For Features / Re: Challenge modes ideas - old and new.

1.Angel of Rockets: Only able to use Rocket and Missile Launchers, ammo will obviously be limited so technique is required to succeed, but game may be easier on higher difficulties since mancubi and remnants will appear earlier to drop rockets. Difficulty: Hard.
I want something like this.  It'd probably be nice to change rockets to not destroy items in this mode, and perhaps change the item drop rate so that each floor gives you some rockets?
2.Angel of Hotfoot: "You've always had some hot, sweaty feet. These military boots don't seem to help much either. Seems like your sweat, combined with the evils of Hell, leaves the floor tarnished." Each step has a 1%-3% chance of creating lava (maybe acid instead) where you just moved from, possibly even on doors, water, or acid. Dodging back and forth will be more risky. Environmental suits will be more important in some instances.
I could see this being fun - the player can actually create lava or acid to their advantage - creating barriers for enemies and erasing corpses.  Of course the player has to be careful not to trap him/herself with the stuff!

3.Angel of 100 tweak: Same concept as before, but now every 10th level is an arena with a special boss, probably human, wielding one of the advanced weapons or uniques. Possibly make it so these enemies are the only way to get uniques in the challenge. Scale the types of uniques to the difficulty (would BFG guys be overkill even for N! ?). This adjustment would make the Challenge more of a challenge fitting to the name Blade, instead of just 100 levels of regular DoomRL levels.
There's been loads and loads of Ao100 ideas.  Who knows which ones will get used.  I'm a fan of Ao100 though, so I do look forward to it being upgraded.

A radical idea:  Have no prerequisites for Master Traits at all, except a minimum level requirement.  Why?

This allows many more trait combinations to be put together.  AND - this gives players a viable chance to switch their build/playstyle in the same game, when now a player is pretty much locked onto their early build's focus when playing at any siginificant level of difficulty.

Also - Intuition 2 or its effect should be a master trait, and Cateye simultaneously should NOT be.  The former is far more powerful than the latter, and some sort of cateye-like effect is pretty necessary in order to play tactically, even if the vision boost is only 1 tile.

Angel of Doom (or Original or something like that)
I like this idea - it could be interesting.
Maybe it still has some randomness but guaranteed items.

The player does need some of the benefits that would ordinarily come with traits, though, or enemies need to be toned down in power - as enemies currently are balanced against a trait-using doomguy - and traits make a huge different in power.

I definitely agree with many of your sentiments.

Most master traits shoehorn a build even moreso than previous versions, where it was already a concern that certain builds were dominant (cateye).

And I too was sad that Son of a Gun was excluded by so many - now I'm not even a pistol player anymore (when before I was so hardcore that I did N! Ao100 with pistols!!)

And to be honest, the master traits are a mixed bag - some aren't even worthy compared to non master traits, while others are complete game changers.

Actually - if Ammochain was reined in, I honestly think a Master Trait system where they didn't block ANY traits (except other Master Traits - i.e. one master trait per character) could be a cool system.

Before any more discussion took place, the door slid open and a haggard-looking man staggered out.  His clothes were heavily wrinkled, as if he had worn them for days, and he carried the stench of one who had not bathed for awhile.

"Hey, you guys, am I glad to see you."  He babbled uncontrollably, "When those monsters appeared I thought I was a goner...  Hey, can I have some of that food?  I'm starving."  He stumbled, his muscles weak without nutrition.

Tavana, Madtrixr, Gargulec, the campaign has begun.

ZZ, how can you assure me you'll be a good fit for the campaign?  Your character actions in the previous PBF weren't compatible, and you were making plot decisions that should be reserved for the GM.

Maiden of the Dark

Somewhere in the Outer Rim, a black ship floated in deep space.  You would be hard-pressed to spot it, unless you noticed where its silhouette blocked the stars.  It was here a new group of rebels were congregating, with plans to strike at the Galactic Empire.  How would the ecletic group of beings get along?  How would they work together; would they come together as a well-oiled team?  And how would they fare in the dangerous missions to come?

"Welcome to the Half Shadow, fellow pilots."  The human male addressing your group in the pilot briefing room did not have any particularly distinctive features, a man of medium stature with brown hair and eyes and a small moustache.  "I'm General Salem, in charge of the starfighters on this ship.  I'm glad all of you have joined us on this task force, as we have important missions to perform as the Alliance moves forward to restore the Republic.  But make no mistake.  You have volunteered for some of the most dangerous jobs in the galaxy.  Our task force will be tackling unorthodox problems and engaging in deep strikes into the heart of the Empire, and most of the time we'll be unsupported.  So train hard, and learn to work with your wingmates, as all of you truly need to be at your best, to survive, and succeed.  Tomorrow, squadron evaluation and training will begin, so make the most of the rest of your day.  Send any communications you would like to make, as the comm blackout begins tomorrow.  Get to know your fellow pilots, as you'll need to rely on them.  Keep your commlink with you at all times when you're on the ship, in case anything comes up.  Dismissed."

With that, the pilots in the room broke into motion, doing various things.  Some began conversing, while others moved to the room's exits.  A rather young lady started to speak to the General, perhaps she was his XO.  Some of you looked at your datapads to learn more about the areas of the ship you could access as pilots:

Pilots' Quarters
- the pilots' personal rooms, and a place to sleep
Pilots' Mess Hall
- where to eat
Pilots' Lounge
- a social area for pilots - includes a bar, a holoprojector, jukebox, sabaac cards, holotables, and other recreational equipment
Pilots' Briefing Room
- where you currently are, usually the place where missions were given
Starboard Hangar Bay
- where your ships were currently parked
Aft Hangar Bay
- another place for starfighters and other small craft
Armory
- storage of personal weapons and useful equipment, much larger than the armories of most ships in the Alliance Navy
Personal Lockers
- lockers around the ship you can use to store your own things, most pilots were assigned two:  once close to their assigned hangar bay, and one close to their quarters
Medical Center
- the place to recover from injuries and have checkups
Simulator Area
- full of starfighter simulators where pilots train and are evaluated
Gym
- a place for physical training, with a comprehensive set of equipment
Library
- contains a small selection of holovids and datacards: for entertainment instruction, or information

There was also an order on the datapad:

Penumbra Squadron pilots - meet [tomorrow] at 0900 hours at the Pilots' Briefing room for our first squadron meeting.  Be fit and ready to fly.  We will go through some sim tests and squadron assignments will be finalized. - Commander Ittek.
