Discussion / Re: Berserk revised, or Gargulec's bit crazy idea for spicing AoB up
« on: January 15, 2010, 02:10 »
How about a fail-safe then? If the berserk penalty were to drop you below 1 HP, you retain that 1 HP and lose berserk. I mean either way you're gonna die soon. I personally see no problems with the proposed system. In fact I can see ways of abusing it- very, very badly.
Such as Chained Court... 250s(500s on N!) of lv5 berserk. As long as you don't kill anything or waste time, you can run all the way to lv25 with minimal effort. Losing 2 hp per second just isn't all that bad. Granted the RNG may put you in a position requiring an emergency heal, thus ending your zerk run early. But say before chained you took all 3 levels of Ironman, giving you 80 HP. That means you could last up to 79 moves (taking 39.5s), before needing a heal. I you got really lucky and landed a supercharge you could last twice that. Which doesn't even use up the entire duration.
What I might suggest is instead taking 1 HP per half-second:
for BERSERK!, make it 4% per second. 2(2/2/3) Dmg; Those with 3 levels of Iro, will take an extra point. Taking damage every second gives you a safety turn to heal move before you bleed out from your raging (since move and act speeds are halved at this level). Compare to 2 Dmg per second as it wouold be in the original suggestion.
for Crazed!, make it 7% per second. 3(4/4/5) Dmg; Again Iro users see a small increase in damage taken. Compare to 4 damage per second as it would be in the original suggestion.
for Insane!, make it 10% per second. 5(6/7/8) Dmg; This level really show the difference. Compare to 8 Dmg per second as it would be in the original suggestion.
Personally I think this looks more balanced. I also assumed that all % would be floored when determining the damage taken.

Is it the lack of an exit statement for the Halls of Carnage? Or that is was your 1000th game? If its the former, congratulations. You computer has survived longer than my would have after 1000 games.

What about...
Dual Threader Requires- (2) Son of a Program
Allows you two program around 2 threads at once, (you must have the second in queue), at 120% of the normal programming time.

0.9.9 / [E|Standard|100%|YAAM] Where's my Sunrise?
« on: January 12, 2010, 20:18 »
I realize ITYTD doesn't count much in the ways of cred, but It was a decent warm up for an all fists run. However, I want to know- Is there a difficulty requirement for Sunrise Fist? I can understand if there is. Also, from the description on the wiki it sounds like you need to get a YAAM with only your fists; so does the enemy's friendly fire disqualify you as well as 'disarming barrels' with a knife or enemies detonating barrels on their own for that matter?
Oh right, the mortem...
WTH RNG? 5 uniques? Now the Necro and Malek's were awesome, but the Phaseshifts, Anti-Freak ,and Missile Launcher were complete trash. I also found an Adv. Double Shotgun, Adv Shotgun and Adv. Combat Shotgun. I'm like fffffffffff *anurism*... Where were these when I was doing my AoSg runs.
What I found ridiculous was I found 2 Invulnerability Globes on Floor 23. On Floor 24 was an Invulnerability and a Megasphere... talk about over kill.

WERE BURNING RED! THEIR LOUD ROAR TOLD ME TO GRASP VICTORY!!
But instead I grabbed a fist of cockiness and a fist full of STFU from the RNG and got screwed.
I was going for a Fists only run. And as you could see, I had plenty of supplies, however I pressed the attack key one to many times in my eagerness and was put down for my insolence. Why.... I was hoping for a YAAM. Best part is Mancubi and Revenants are pussies in close combat, so I could use them for shields from Arch-Viles until berserk kicked in -which by the way only kicked in three times since I got it, and only when I had a berserk pack already active- and take them out...
As for uniques... I hate this game. This is the first game where I've gotten a unique on a level that wasn't a complete deathtrap (map-blocking rooms of lava, etc.), not to mention two. And not just two, two of the good ones. AGHHHH!!

It feels good, doesn't it? Finally after weeks of emasculation, I can feel like a man again. Though I have to say it was an interesting journey.
Oh, whats that? You say I saved 4 times? Well Yes I did. Once after Armory, The Wall, The Halls of Carnage, and Vaults .
"I bet he save scummed" you say? Well I wouldn't put it that way. After all I did the hard stuff before I saved. I really only save scummed on the save after the Halls of Carnage, and even then I wouldn't call it that. If it wasn't 5 Arch-Viles it was 8 Aracnotrons, or 10 Barons with several Arch-Viles out of sight. Everything else was a cake walk since I had the Rev. Launcher.
The Wall was a rather tricky piece of work. As it turned out, nearly all of them died from the same rocket, which allowed me to level and get MFa.
The Vaults pissed me off. Thought I had a Phase Device, but as it turns out I used two floors back to escape some Arch-Viles. So the only reason I dont have a YAAM, is because of that damned center vault.
As for the Mortuary, I'd been carrying that nuke since floor 16, and figured, what better place to use it! Thankfully there was an Invulnerability globe on the previous floor. I popped that baby down and phased to grab some loot before it went off. I got power mod and a red armor out of it, along with the ANGELIC ARMOR (I mean whats better than a 7 dam reduction)
Now for Cybie. I think I'll use a narrative for this one:
"As I descended further into this hell, the smell of fresh blood washed over me. Something was definitely different about this floor. As I set up for a fight I could hear the sound of machinery coming closer. But it wasn't as fluid as an Aracnotron; No, it was much rougher, and much much bigger.
I crept towards a group of pillars in the middle of the room. Strategically, stealthily, and full of prejudice, i 'checked' each corner with my shotgun. It had served me well in this pit. I knew whatever was down here was close, just not how close. As I moved to the next pillar, I heard a familiar clunk to my left. Diving forward a felt my backside warm as fragments of the nearest pillar showered over my.
I gazed upon my foe. Towering over me, this behemoth moved towards me, the ground shaking with every step. A giant mass of machine and what I could only assume to be the remains of the former inhabitants of the base.
As quickly as I could, I ran to the nearest intact pillar and pulled out my Plasma Rifle and emptied it into the monster. It shrugged off the damage like it was nothing, although some damage had been done. I whipped out my double Barrel and emptied them both into its gut, or what ever you wanna call it. I backed up and fired again. Now it was in close range. I could have taken a chainsaw to it, but decided against that course of action. Donning my lightest armor I made a break for it.
After weaving through several pillars I seemed to have lost it. I switched to my Rocket Launcher I 'borrowed' from one of those Revenant bastards. I hadn't heard it move much so I targeted an area near its last location. Accompanying the explosion, I hear it's cry; a god awful wail that put me on edge. I emptied all I had and peeked around the corner.
My curiosity was met by a rocket to the chest. I did my best to make it to another piece of cover. Turning around, I could see it chasing. i pulled out my BFG-9000 and unloaded 3 times into it. Boy was it hurtin', but it wasn't over yet. Missiles flew at me as I ran behind another pillar. I could feel the explsions shaking the wall and half expected to have it collapse behind me however it remained firm.
I swept the sides with my shotgun, only hitting it a few times. After a while I gave up on harassing it. It was waiting, and it could out last me even in its current condition. Reloading the BFG, I peeked around the sides of my cover and saw the remains of two pillars. I aimed, fired and was rewarded by the sound of discomfort from my grotesque friend. I aimed to the other side and was similarly rewarded. I couldn't sit around any longer. I ran around the corner and came face to face with the monstrosity. Immediately regretting my decision I back stepped and pulled out my double barrel again. I popped 2 fresh shells in as it came around the corner. Unloading into it's head, it suddenly exploded.
Finally, it seemed I was done. Now all that was left was to find a way out, get a smoke, and..... a shower."
