I'd attempt to blow up the bottom section of the wall to check if the lava actually did cross the entire level, then, yeah, do what Blade suggested if that failed.

Discussion / Re: Pistols: Best weapon ever?
« on: August 15, 2008, 09:23 »
I love me the pistols and would play AoMr games before it was actually a challenge. However, it takes 3 traits to make pistols worth starting to use after you find your first Combat Shottie (SoaG 2 + Dual), then a 4th (SoaG 3) to stay useful later on. This is a heavy investment that someone using other weapons could have used to get +30 HP and +1 armor or to have started on Eagle Eye for Chain Gunning or for Son of a Bitch or ...

Now, your argument against all the other weapons can be more than fixed by traits. Pistols take more traits than any other weapon to be good. I'd put it at at least 6, more if you don't have artifact pistols or a lot of damage mods. 2d4 damage against armor starts to become *pathetic*.

A plasma gunner with EE 3 and SoaB 3 vs a Pistol user with 6 traits (SoaG 3, Dual, EE 2). They have, at that point, similar accuracy (Pistol has 1 higher), the pistol user can get out 6 shots in the same time as 8 shots from the plasma gun, and deals an average of 5 damage per shot compared to 7.5 with the plasma gun. Against something with 1 armorthis is 4*6 = 24 vs 6.5*8 = 52; with 2 armor this is 3*6 = 18 damage vs 5.5*8 = 44 damage. (A Chaingunner with a similar setup would have the same accuracy as a pistol user and deal 25 and 20, respectively, with the same setup. And it would use 1 less ammo.)

Rockets deal AoE damage. Give it 4 enemies in blast radius and it can deal 84 damage in a single fire. Dance around cover with reloading and you can kill a large group much easier than any pistol user ever could. Similar tactics work best with the shotgun family, as well.

So, yes, while pistols have the potential to be good, other weapons start off good or don't need as many feats to be as good or better.

Century Lounge / Re: [U|Ao100|99%] Nukes don't kill -- bug?

And, you know, I'm not sure if I agree with it doing that. I'm not really sure why, tho. It just seems like a chickeny way of getting EXP and the kills. But, it's not any worse than doing it when you're invincible and use a nuke, really, and you do get EXP for that.

Requests For Features / Re: Interrupting an action
« on: July 27, 2008, 22:12 »
I draw your attention to the fact that the first thing that you do in reloading is removing your current ammo clip. So if you want to interrupt reloading, that leaves you without any ammo in the gun, no matter, had you any ammo in it before trying to reload, or not. So if you had no suitable weapon in Swap slot, you will need to retreat and seek for cover. So, more tactical thinking, less annoyance from stupid deaths. I support this feature.)

With the exception being the Combat Shottie, tho. But, I'd rather get a warning than be *killed*

Gah. Yeah, that would be a very nice thing to have added in.

I don't know if I'd call that a bug. An unimplemented feature, maybe. When you leave the level, does the nuke explode and you get the kill messages? Because, once you leave the level is, I'm assuming, wiped from memory, along with everything on it.

Really, I'd disagree that it's needed. I used to agree at first, but I've come to get a lot more optimization out of my inventory. I tend to keep the Chaingun and a 100 stack of ammo or two around for taking care of most things, then swap out for the plasma gun or BFG right before I go down stairs. The only thing I really use the BFG on is Archviles and absurdly large groups, Plasma for Arachnos, Revenants, and Mancubi. Nothing else really warrants much higher.

DiabloRL / Re: Welcome to the DiabloRL board!
« on: July 19, 2008, 01:04 »
Huh. That sorta sucks.
As a "I have a lot to do, but..." sort of thing, I could mess with it in the not-very-near future. Someone yell at me in a few months.

Uh. Can Arachnotrons open doors? Should have just closed the door. I don't think they can, but I've never encountered an arachnotron on the other side of a door that I can think of.

Discussion / Re: An Idea of mine.... the BPD....
« on: July 08, 2008, 03:51 »
And i also have a suggestion: How about  making BPD a melle weapon that is better than the chainsaw, but consumes energy cells. It will than have an ability to overcharge it (like the plasmagun), maing it an one hit kill weapon, but losing it in the process. We really need more non-unique melle weapons. DoomRL has only 3 now, two of which only spawn on special levels.

This is actually an idea that I'd think would work. I'd still say it should be a Unique, but a high damage melee Unique that uses cells would be cool. Some sort of powered fist. Gauntlet if we want to steal from Quake 3 or Piston if we want to steal from Unreal Tournament.

Yeah - I'd go TaN -> TaN -> EEx2 -> Ironmanx3 -> TaN. After that, probably SoaB or Cateye.
EE is damned important for every weapon besides shotguns and BFG. Multiple hit weapons are utterly useless without it, which will make up a lot of your inventory.

Well, really, some of the things I don't have much of an opinion on.

DiabloRL / Re: I realy like this idea

I'm not sure what Diablo you were playing, but Diablo 1 isn't that hard. Play smart, lure the enemies away and kill them in small numbers.
