So I reinstalled DRL a couple of months back, and this was my first run through.
Nothing major to report. Malek's armor is awesome, even against high tier monsters.
I forgot to use my lava element
Gunrunner is really cool. Had never used it before. Would be even cooler with a nanomachic weapon I imagine.
I somehow got 27 badges/medals in this run. I would never presume for that to be any sort of record, lol, but I was thinking that you could have a new series of medals... The "Golddigger" series of medals
Golddigger Gold Medal: for 20 badges/medals in a single run
Golddigger Platinum Medal: for 30 badges/medals in a single run
Golddigger Diamond Medal: for 40 badges/medals in a single run
Anywhoo... to the mortem itself

Ooh, Gunrunner build. Interesting choice! How did you find it?
By the way, you mentioned in another post that you lost your stats from the previous version. It might be a bit late to mention it now, but you can copy stats over between versions by copying the player.wad file over.

How did I find gunrunner?
I had never used it before, so just for fun, I gave it a shot. And in truth, my thinking was that it would only be good with a powerful weapon equipped. Say a nanomachic rocket launcher or a nanomachic tristar blaster, nanomachic BFG perhaps? Possibly a jackhammer. High powered weapons that will knock enemies back out of return fire range. For tough enemies, I feel that gunrunner would be not so great with just regular shotguns/plasma guns/ chainguns etc etc. Reason being is that so much of this game is that you kill your enemies before they see you, and ideally before you see them. Gunrunner requires you to actually see your enemies, which reduces its usefulness massively, as they can shoot back as soon as you enter within range. not what you want when dealing with Archs or mancs. Good if you get a missile launcher, but even then, reloading every 4 shots is not ideal.
And yes I know now you can transfer your player stats between versions. IIRC, I think I did more my stats from the ascii version to the graphical version? Maybe. But then I uninstalled it and wasn't planning on coming back to it. Wish I had kept those stats. Didn't have many high end medals/badges, but given how much work getting any of those is, would have been worth keeping it, looking back.
Thanks Torm for the advice. Cheers. :)

I've found it to be very effective when combined with Shottyman trait and a shotgun. Being able to move, fire, and reload at the same time can be surprisingly devastating to your enemies, since the Dodgemaster gives them a lot of difficulty in hitting you back. Of course, as you say, a Nanomachic weapon could also make it very interesting. Hmm...
-
Hah. Yes you are correct. I was forgetting that you can both reload and fire in the same movement. So a focussed double shotty would be very effective, as it can knock back even heavy enemies like barons at long range. Hmmm.
May have to revisit Gunrunner.
Would you recommend gunrunner for, say, an A666 run?
Ammochain is currently my preferred method for quickly getting through levels on an A100 or A666 run.
Not that I have ever finished an A666 run... I always lose concentration somewhere. For example my most recent attempt, I was switching between cerebus boots for crossing lava/acid, and phaseshift boots for general speed in combat. just finished a level, around level 250, forgot I was wearing the phaseshift boots, went to cross a river of lava to pick up a soulsphere I had left for the end of the level.... With predictable results...
lol
Cheers torm. :)

Nice! That's a lot of badges, indeed.
Unfortunately, Gunrunner can't be used in combination with nanomachic weapons, as it blocks Whizkid.

I can't really say I'd "recommend" it per se, since I tend to have a slow, calculating playstyle, whereas, as you pointed out, Gunrunner is all about charging in with guns blazing. I used the trait to great effect in ArchAoRA games here (https://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,6758.0.html) and here, (https://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,7842.0.html) since those are games where speed is super important, but I wouldn't normally use it otherwise.
That being said, it could make an ArchAo666 stairdive interesting, blasting everything out of your way as you run straight to the exit level after level. :)

Thanks Defazer. Yeah. If I ever used gunrunner regularly, I would have known that you can't use it with whizkid. haha shows how often I use gunrunner.
This game may be the only time I have used it.
Cheers defazer.

Another smart tactical choice. gunrunner is perfect for a AoRA run. See I wouldn't even have thought of that. And yeah like you I think the reason I never used it much is because you have to expose yourself to get the benefits of that particular master trait. And I do have a more cautious style. Notcautious enough yet, as ArchAoHu is teaching me. Repeatedly. :D
