Title: Forum upgrade
Post by: Kornel Kisielewicz on May 07, 2006, 20:54
I upgraded miniBB to the latest version. I tried to do that without breaking any enhancements that were installed. It didn't work for the Poll system, but that's not such a big issue, for the Poll system was bad anyway ;-). As for the other features I don't know wether it succeded so if you find any bugs, please post them in this topic.

As for the recent spam attacks there is a solution -- although a drastical one: dissalow unregistered posting and enable e-mail confirmation when registering. During the lifetime of the forums there weren't many unregistered posters, and those that were didn't stay long/advance the community for too long (with the eception of Derek Yu -- but he registered now). So I don't know how uncomfortable it will be to force people to register -- please state your opinion.

Note also that if it would be implemented this system would stop spam COMPLETELY.

I don't think its a problem, most people who want to state something in a forum are used to tossing their email up for registration and all that.  Personally, I was surprised when this one didn't.

I always register for a forum when i'm going to hang around anyway. And i have no qualms about giving up my email. Spam on my mail can be filtered easily enough, but on a forum it is a lot more annoying.

Another thing that you may want to check is that (in the previous forum versions at least) even unregistered posters can post in announcements.
