Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the idea of a backpack very much... IMHO it would only complicate the game - I like DoomRL a simple RPG-shooter.

The great thing is that it wouldn't complicate the game at all, though... ;)

All you really have to do is pick it up and then feel its good effects.

Indeed, Tyrant, for instance, has a tutorial.

Santiago is, of course, refering to his own RL, CastlevaniaRL :P (Which you can get at the link at his signature). I think the thing is he doesn't want to get overboard with self-promotion, but I'll help him a bit :P

Ah cool.  Well I figured at least one or two other RL's would have a tutorial... but not as a marine-style training mission with a drill sargeant (he should be called Sarge in homage to Quake, perhaps).

Santiago, I'm going to finally give CastlevaniaRL a play through sometime next week and I'll make a post about it on TIGSource, if you don't mind. :)

Regarding Chained Court I have one more suggestion - maby it should be made like Unholy Cathedral, i.e. melle only? Right now is too easy to switch to shotgun (any kind) and slaughter those poor former humans mercilessly.

I think that might make the Unholy Cathedral less special. :(

Anyway, I really like this idea. Set up the map like a marine training course, complete with dummies, armor, weapons, obstacle courses (example below), and at the end, have a demon appear that you have to kill with the weapons you've found. (Kind of like "Congratulations, Marine, you've succesfully completed your- (demon teleports in) WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!??" Then you kill it and the commander comes back on the radio. "Situation Green. All hostiles pacified. All knowledge of this event will be classified, Marine. I don't need to tell you what that means.")

Cool idea!  And one that no other RL has yet to implement, as far as I know.

No time right now to give the reply I'd like to give, but take a look at this game when you have the chance, Kornel:

It's essentially what Star Control would be if turned into a 15-minute coffeebreak type game.  Although that may be giving the game a bit more credit than it's due, since it doesn't have the kind of charm that SC has, nor is it random enough to sustain my interest for very long.  But still!

You could also experiment with new monsters and combinations of monsters that would be too dangerous in the normal modes.

Might be a nice place for the Spider Mastermind (the Arena Mastermind?). ;)

Remember that it's an option, and you won't have to use it.  Plus the graphics will be awesome, so I hear...

haha, congratulations!  That's awesome.  What a great way to finish him, too.

Also, I love your signature!  Kornel, you need to add something that outputs a special "signature" file or DoomRL gamertag type thing and have a [sig][/sig] tag that you can use to color it. :)

Maybe it's just autogenerated at the end of each game?

It could rust your armor like in Nethack?  Rusted armor has a 75% capacity.
