Post Mortem / [U| AoMr | 100% | YAAM] Marksman Plat - it's easy after floor 2!

This took me 20 attempts. 18 of them ended on floor 2 (some in Arena, but mostly not). One in CC+ (walked into a captain while retreating from Baron post-Master).
I chose Scout with a die roll, and went for Gun Kata. I remember always liking waiting the extra level to get more SoG rather than beelining for MGK. Back and forth on Dualgunner at XL 3 or 4, though - this time took it at 4. I didn't see much point in trying to fit WK in, just took some Iro/Rel/EE and the last SoGs when available. Intuition also seemed reasonable but I didn't take it here.
I tried to save a Berserk pack in CC+, but that didn't work out - a Baron splatted it. Early mods led me towards HP + speedloaders. I like that combination, do a bunch of damage fast but speedload to keep shooting. For Phobos Lab I had enough speed to lure the nightmare demons out, then close a door and wait. Phobos Anomaly went awfully. I let too many demons into the start room and they ate my tac armour while I tried to get from globe to globe. Finished with 2 medpack I think.
Hell's Armoury was a bit scary - traded an envirosuit for the supercharge after I got plasmaed by a commando. But the gun room had a combat pistol! Shambler was easy enough with Dodgemaster, fought in the open on the right. Wore plasma shield just in case, got hit once. Rewards included nano pack! Put it on red armour, and got P mod soon after for Power armour. The combat pistol became high-powered as well. That thing tore through Deimos very nicely. Babel was no problem, just fight in the open and watch the reloads.
Two Hell levels had unholy atmosphere, between envirosuits and supercharge they were not much of an issue. Limbo felt very tempting but since I had had such trouble passing level 2 I didn't want to risk it. Some later level produced another combat pistol; I didn't have mods saved so it only got powered once. Lava Armour/Enviroboots could have been good but I was happier with power Red + fireproof plasteel. Lava Pits got nuked thanks to an invuln; unfortunately I did not use the element to get a flawless Mastermind kill.

Post Mortem / [U| YAFW | 100%] Getting the rust off with Vet/Elite Plat and Scavenger Diamond

It's been a while! Whatever skills I had have felt like they are gone, but eventually I was able to get through a UV game. I wanted to play a generalist with Malicious Blades. The early game was fine, lots of shotgunning, except when I did something dumb and died, or couldn't make it through CC+ - this is my first character to get to XL 7. Amusingly once I did get it, I hadn't been carrying a 2nd knife so had to use the chainsaw in melee. Deimos Lab awarded PPBBFO mods, which led to some tough choices. I didn't really want to carry mods around waiting to assemble cerberus etc despite my ballistic vest. Converting shotgun(P) to elephant gun also tempted, but eventually decided on bulking a knife and finishing tactical shotgun and making OP red armour, protection now is better than resistances later. Early micro launcher felt like an error, would rather have had the T mods at this point - especially once I found it wasn't breaking walls, fortunately found a missile launcher before the Wall.
I brought some phases planning to try for the lucky vaults clear, but instead I kind of cheated my way through (and Limbo too) (if I had planned on that, I could have dropped Arena Staff earlier!). Can you see the hint in the mortem?
After getting Malicious Blades and WK2, I alternated between Iro to live (especially when current HP was low) and stuff like Finesse/Brute/Juggler for extra offense.
In the later part of the game the only real problem was Mancubi flinging me (and themselves!) everywhere and destroying all the stuff (many mods, and the double medpack from a HK - I use one of my 2-3 hoarded packs after seeing those drop, step out, and they explode). Not sure what I'm meant to do about those - maybe assemble some low-knockback boots?

Discussion / AoI Cyberdemon

Does anybody have advice for dealing with the Cyberdemon after Deimos on AoI? I got what felt like a strong character to that point on HMP with probably 120 HP (iro x3, BA), dodged a lot of rockets and returned fire with missile launcher, but I'd still take a lot of hits. I really hope dodgemaster/fireangel isn't necessary, as shottyman + survivalist has seemed like a good path otherwise. I don't remember how I dealt with him in pre-episode versions, probably with BFGs or a nuke since he was at the end and BFGs used to be more common.

Finally got around to winning the "unlock stuff" game. I wanted to get Berserker after Ammochain (and thus Conqueror medal), but decided I was obligated to make good use of the firestorm pack so WK instead.
The Wall was brutal, as it always seems to be for me now. Missing two rockets in a row resulted in no missile launcher/backpack!.
Of course, right after the Wall comes Anomaly. I was quite greedy and went to around 3% health fighting off the crowd so I could make it back to the start for health instead of using a medpack (the Wall had greatly depleted my supplies, down to 0 or 1 I think). Rocket Launcher (A) is not a missile launcher but it did a fair bit to the bruisers.
Armory was no trouble, the shambler eventually decided to teleport next to me and be killed by plasma instead of rockets. The Acid Spitter was great fun, mostly used to deal with Vile groups.
I decided to clear Hall of Carnage the lazy way - stand on the stairs and wait. Don't do this, as eventually the lava will reveal a Baron who is happy to knock you into the lava.
Spider's Lair was a BFG free-fire zone for a while, then plasma rifle to clear out the rest. I quickly slapped the firestorm mod onto the nuclear plasma rifle, with agility ready for WK on my next level up.
I mostly traded blows with Cyberdemon, losing half health and half armour, maybe a medpack.
I opened the Vaults with rockets first, and then the centre one. Revenants were trivial at this point (usually one barrage), and mancubi a bit less so (usually 2 barrages).
Mortuary I had a bit of invulnerability and then a hatred skull to clear one side, the last Vile gave me some grief on the other side but nothing that a BFG couldn't take care of.
Hell 6 was a little startling (crackling flames!) but thankfully there were only viles, no friends. At this point arch-viles would go down in two blasts. This level had my first envirosuit, and there was also an invulnerability. The two together lasted long enough to get the other packs in the Lava Pits.
Very nearly died on Hell 7 from a Vile/Baron pack that destroyed my fireproof red armour, I was overconfident with that armour + enviropack and clowned around with the Acid Spitter (really, don't try to reload it and wait for the enemies to die from the acid pools).

Requests For Features / Chained court (normal) update

Because of:
a) A player with a rocket launcher at this point probably cleared Hell's Arena and is thus not in chained court (normal)
b) the berserk packs no longer make it completely trivial to get in and out of the rooms behind the lava
I think it would be nice to move the mods from the corners into the rooms guarded by caco/HK/Baron.

Bug Reports / [0.9.9.5] Scavenger badge - misleading text, or bugged

I was just killed in the Vaults, and did not get Scavenger Bronze. I think that's intentional, but if so the description should be changed - "find the vaults" seems to imply no need to exit, same as "enter the mortuary". "Scavenge the Vaults" is fine for the silver, I think. Perhaps "visit" or "walk through" - or just grant the badge on entry.

The former humans aren't used to dealing with the trees on Phobos (I can't blame them, would you?). They keep trying to shoot at me through the tree and failing, I might try to run them out of ammo.

0.995 being a major overhaul of level and badge structure, I decided I should break my plan of keeping player.wad until 1.0 - and now I can stop naming every single Doomperson Rahul. My first attempt (HMP Conqueror) failed due to the new Chained Court - everybody hanging back means more running to the Master, and berserk ran out. Decided to switch to ITYTD Sunrise speedrun, splatted vs imp on L2, then won.
Scout is of course awesome for speedy play, I did not quite beeline for all stairs but pretty close. Stopped to kill stuff as it was convenient, was only level 2 for Bruisers. Cybie was a bit annoying but the red armour I brought from
There was a huge (for ITYTD) mess of Vile-led stuff near the end, probably should have phased but just went through it.
Unfortunately I skipped a blaster, combat pistol, missile launcher, another exotic, and one or two unknown uniques - I'll probably regret that when it comes to filling out the lists for Armorer.

I decided my class with a die roll. Going Marine, the only decision was which order to take Iro/TaN.
The Chained Court is very tough in AoSh with weakened berserk. I knocked some of the Barons into the lava, but couldn't get the AM into a good position. I ended up using 2 large medpacks and 3 or 4 small ones. Two berserks were taken at the start (wore off right after killing the AM, at 13% health) and one before the final enemy (a Baron).
I skipped level 10 as it was an Arachnotron Cave, and I didn't feel anything good would come of it (still took a fair bit of damage while running to the exit). However, it appears that that was the level Hell's Armory was on. Whoops. Also, level 9 was my previous best in 0.994, with 11, 12, and 19 in previous versions.
I missed at least one enemy on level 14 with the armed nuke, probably an imp. that made me feel better about skipping 10.
Hellgate did not go so well either - I had a shockwave pack, and tried to release a Vile but failed. I ended up moving northwest after the walls came down, past the Vile, into a little alcove where I had some cover.
I had two very close calls: ending up at 1% after a mancubus / vile surprise party; moving onto an invulnerability next to a lava barrel while running from VVRRR and getting the next action to pick it up (I had 150% health and Malek's at that point, so I think I was safe anyway, but it sure made the level easier). One other Hell level I only cleared half of (a Maze, Hell 7 I think as the Mortuary was there), after dealing with a chest of Barons and some vile packs I thought it was getting out of hand. judging by the kill count, there can't have been much left so I guess I should have stayed.
a Pain Elemental Cave (Hell 8, I think) was a bit fun - I started in view of 5 or 6 of them, so they were breeding very fast. I moved onto a supercharge, then accidentally moved off without picking it up - took many turns before I could keep that space free of souls. Each blast of the double shotgun was clearing 20-30 of them, very satisfying.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to go for the full win and risk Shottyman Gold, but finding invulnerability on Hell 9 gave me a safe option, with my homing phase. with the Marine bonus, that actually lasted as I walked halfway across Phobos Arena to the stairs, and almost to the 'i' in HF, so I wouldn't even have needed the lava element. JC was being silly, as discussed elsewhere. Backing away from him to recharge Malek's wasn't that great of an idea, he and the lost souls kept on hitting me and it took a very long time to get him back in view. I also completely forgot to use my envirosuits.
I had a lot of shell packs (unloaded one and a half), but usually used the shottyman reload instead. still, no reason not to keep one there for heavy firing - especially with the double, that was very useful in a few places.
I really wanted to make fireproof acid-proof boots :). but no tech mods appeared other than the two for my shotguns.
One really scary moment (in a literal sense, it wasn't actually dangerous in-game): an arch-vile rocketjumping (with Revenant assistance) to appear right next to me. He died from the blast, but it was really shocking.

This badge has been giving me grief for a while (AoLT has been changed so much that I felt I should re-acquire it). My alternate character was a Techician Sharpshooter.
I went Cateye, with a detour to Whizkid as the assault rifle uses far fewer bullets. WK2, later on, was a mistake as my primary and secondary weapons were assemblies. Should have been Juggler or Ironman. Triggerhappy is a drawback of this build, it made my ammo woes much worse.
My default loadout for a while was chaingun and rocket launcher (needed for the wall), with one medpack and the rest ammo. Second medpack for some places (Arena, CC, Cyberdemon), though later on I was often carrying more weapons instead (BFG, plasma rifle - that one was a clear mistake, you can't carry enough cells).
2 envirosuits right before Chained Court helped with pre-berserk thinning the herds.
The Armory was nice enough to give me a double shotgun, so one of the arachnotrons could be knocked into the lava. The other I had to charge at so he could melee me while I shotgunned him. It was also the final mods for assault rifle, and tactical rocket launcher. The Shambler didn't even teleport - I killed him with the TRL out of sight. The reward was a Nano pack! (and one other mod, the second mod was destroyed by my shooting). I decided to go for gravity boots as I hadn't made them before. Little was I to know that the final piece was not going to show up until Hell 8, I could have had Power armor within the next few levels...
The Wall was no trouble, with a rocket box and TRL the Barons got blasted into oblivion.
UC, Vaults, Mortuary, and Lava Pits were skipped. Vaults was tempting as I was short on ammo (due to mucking about with that plasma rifle), but I wasn't sure how well it would work. I found some captains to fix the problem a bit later.
On Hell 3 I found MMMMMVV in sight - quickdraw the TRL, blast repatedly to kill the viles.
On Hell 8 I finally made the gravity boots. I am probably not the best at abusing that sort of speed, but it still seemed pretty crazy. On Hell 9 I had a queue of Barons blocking the viles, they let me safely step to the side and fire without getting hit by everything and knocked away first. They also practically grant Badass, health depletes pretty slowly when you're at 0.18s movement speed. And you don't need to run for your life :)

The Armory was nice enough to give me a double shotgun, so one of the arachnotrons could be knocked into the lava. The other I had to charge at so he could melee me while I shotgunned him. It was also the final mods for assault rifle, and tactical rocket launcher. The Shambler didn't even teleport - I killed him with the TRL out of sight. The reward was a Nano pack! (and one other mod, the second mod was destroyed by my shooting). I decided to go for gravity boots as I hadn't made them before. Little was I to know that the final piece was not going to show up until Hell 8, I could have had Power armor within the next few levels...
The Wall was no trouble, with a rocket box and TRL the Barons got blasted into oblivion.
UC, Vaults, Mortuary, and Lava Pits were skipped. Vaults was tempting as I was short on ammo (due to mucking about with that plasma rifle), but I wasn't sure how well it would work. I found some captains to fix the problem a bit later.
On Hell 3 I found MMMMMVV in sight - quickdraw the TRL, blast repatedly to kill the viles.
On Hell 8 I finally made the gravity boots. I am probably not the best at abusing that sort of speed, but it still seemed pretty crazy. On Hell 9 I had a queue of Barons blocking the viles, they let me safely step to the side and fire without getting hit by everything and knocked away first. They also practically grant Badass, health depletes pretty slowly when you're at 0.18s movement speed. And you don't need to run for your life :)
I keep forgetting that Cyberdemon has Cateye himself, so no Head for me. I brought plenty of heavy weapons but just used the assault rifle.

After accidentally entering the Wall with no rockets, I knew YAAM was out but might as well grab Explorer. I didn't want the ammochain or melee routes, so I tried Entrenchment - with a detour for WK. The assault rifle is of course great, saving ammo. The assault cannon I made mostly to check it off the list, but it's really nice when you can afford to fire it - and made that unthinking Eagle Eye pick not useless. It also of course carries a lot of spare bullets in only one slot.
On Phobos Hell 5 I found the blaster. At first I decided to replace my (AP) plasma rifle with it, but decided that since I avoided ammochain I shouldn't take the blaster. but I forgot to recover the rifle, and picked up more bullets instead. Hell 6 had a V/M surprise in a wide-open area. I fought a little more than I should have, trying to get to some armour shards (but they were destroyed) and had to use my homing phase (saved for Mortuary) to escape. There was a water-flood lever, so I decided to finish them off, but had an incident with some barrels that left me quite injured.
My pride intact, but not my body, I chose to enter Mortuary - guaranteed supercharge! and hopefully the BFG would let me get to the exit. It did not, 4 viles were on the way. I might have made it if I had run from the start, or gone left - that side looks more clear. Or rocketjumped repeatedly :).

AoHu is a challenge that I've always struggled with, even on HNTR. Tried so many strategies, and classes seemed like they would help - tech or scout for WK/Int with an assault rifle ready to go was my go-to, but it was so easy to instantly lose when I got careless, which was inevitable. New Berserker seems tailor-made for this, as you get extra protection.
I picked Marine intending to take Vampyre, but feared that I couldn't slog it out with the AoD even berserked, and berserk might not trigger. I changed my mind as I didn't like the blocked traits, and figured most kills would not be melee. Tough as Nails is not necessary for Vampyre, but I needed it as I couldn't P-mod the starting armor.
Scout might be a better choice with the same traits, though I'm pretty sure the extra 2 HP saved me a few times. Hard to evaluate the extra pack length, but seemed useful.
The Chained Court is tough on AoHu. Keep the red armor on, even with berserk. I charged the Master with the chainsaw, using rockets a little first.
Jackhammer (from Armory) made things much easier. It chews through so much ammo (especially at a distance), but I started carrying fewer medpacks (often only 1); Globes were usually enough health. The knockback makes the enemies rarely return fire, and helps put them into lava/acid.
Hell's Armory is mostly easy, but the arachnotrons are a pain. I tried to open the north-east corner of their rooms, and wait nearby with the jackhammer. worked well with one, the other managed to shoot but was not lethal. Shambler was fought with the chainsaw, as Jackhammer is still only a shotgun.
Unholy Cathedral - A duelist armor gave increased confidence, and I planned to use the strategy I found in my last AoMC run - outspeed the angel and make him let you hit & run. A piercing chainsaw was very useful in shortening the fight (essentially +10 damage, I think), but I had berserk from the demons/souls so it was no problem.
City of Skulls was tougher than it should have been - I tried to melee one of the middle rooms; even with berserk there's just too many souls to try it as they all hit for around 8% anyway. Shotguns for the normal enemies, added missile launcher for the boss.
For the Vaults, Barons are no problem but the new sneaky Arachnotrons are. They refused to cooperate with my BFGs, and made me use my medpacks. This is not the challenge for Necroarmor, I'm pretty sure.
Mortuary I was fortunate enough to enter invincible. I cleared two Viles in melee and phased to the other side to lay waste with the BFG - unfortunately destroying the nuclear BFG. Jackhammer and missile launcher finished it off. At one point I was running out of berserk, but a hatred skull fixed that.
A moderately convenient Berserk Pack on floor 24 made the cyberdemon trivial - dodge once, stab-stab-stab.
And I got a rank up! :)

edit: mortem tagsYes, that is two powerful unique weapons + the artifacts, and a blaster, and the Nano Pack. I really wish this wasn't my AoMC medal hunting attempt (didn't have shambler's head or angelic badge), as those were not really necessary. For example, there are around 35 better uses of the Nano pack than the ripper - but I liked the idea of 1-shotting Viles in melee without Brute, and it was an assembly to check off the list. Phaseshift armor was also around, but it was too late to make it speedy for even more speed.
Armory's greatest difficulty was the same as non-Carnage HNTR mode - the arachnotrons, especially with their new AI. Intuition 2 let me cheat them with rockets, but I'm not sure how I would have dealt with them without it, since they can be anywhere in their rooms. The shambler fell to 4 missiles fired due west, though that did also destroy one of my mod rewards.
I was trying to make a hyperblaster for Mortuary, holding the needed mods at all times (hence the late tactical gear), but by the time I reached UC I despaired of ever finding the plasma rifle. I also brought only 1 medpack, so I figured I needed every edge against the Angel possible - so I tech modded the ripper. I can't tell if it made a difference, but he only hit me once. I walked away from him and whenever I was 2 tiles away used 'wait' - he'd either step once or twice, if twice I'd hit him and walk off. one of those times I hit him and he hit back. I did find the plasma rifle afterwards, but never another tech mod.
In Mortuary, Jackhammer was a fine substitute for hyperblaster. 3 viles were killed before they took more than one total action with BFG blasts, and Jackhammer helped clear the place out.
JC was quite annoying - I didn't remember he had Cateye, I was quite worried he'd kill me. I also forgot that I could nuke him, I was focused on trying to phase near the stairs while still invulnerable on 25.
Running Man was a complete waste of a trait. Not because it's bad, but because I completely forgot about it at all times (I hadn't even planned to take it, just saw an unexpected master trait available), and there were not many places where I was planning to get shot at anyway. I should have picked some reloader.
I did a lot of self- and armor- damage to use medical/armor levers, and summoned many enemies (the ripper likes that they start next to you, even VAAM) but it was not enough for the Gambler's Shield. I'm wondering how possible that is to get, even assuming multiple-use levers count for each use.

I'm not actually a huge fan of Vampyre for ITYTD fist - I'd prefer Blademaster. But the Marine's pack duration is really nice, and once you're Marine melee you might as well take Badass and Vampyre. It's possible that Hellrunner instead of Vampyre makes sense.
This took a few more tries than I thought it would, since the Arena is tough and you don't have many options. But even past that, I twice accidentally killed something while holding a chainsaw or BFG. This time I left the BFG behind. The chainsaw is to open doors in Halls of Carnage, and perhaps to use against bosses if you need to - if that trick works. Micro Launcher for the Wall and just in case a level looks impassable, including rocket jumping.
I had to leave a room by phasing as I spawned next to 5 revenants. The room wasn't set up for friendly fire, and they didn't trigger berserker. I found a tracking map which showed 2 arch-viles next door to them ... so long YAAM. Left 3 Bs of some sort on the same level. I could have fought them, but YAAM was already gone.
Spider's Lair was not good, they pummelled me even berserked. I did a lot of damage with Staff-medpack-repeat.
Nanofiber ballistic vest is only OK, I was probably better off leaving it with one power mod and using the armor shards.

Attempting to fire a weapon that uses multiple pieces of ammunition per shot without enough (for example, a BFG with 20 cells in it) takes up time. It takes the same time as firing it, I believe - 10 turns for my unenhanced Marine's BFG. Firing a completely empty weapon does not take time. (I have EmptyConfirm on, if that matters).
